June 24, 2009 - Alice in Wonderland

Here are some pictures my dad showed me from Tim Burton's upcoming Alice in Wonderland film. It looks really good, but really creepy.

Enjoy!

June 18, 2009 - Movie Updates

Here are some things I though you would like to know!

First, Spider-man 4 has officially been greenlighted. Actually they're starting production. Both Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst will be reprising their roles as Spider-man and Mary Jane. Sam Raimi will also be returning to direct. Spidy 4 will hopefully be released in 2011.

Second, Voyage of the Dawn Treader will --hopefully-- start filming next month (July) or maybe in August.

Lastly, The directer of The Hobbit, Guillermo Del Toro, has officially announced that Ian McKellin, Andy Serkis, and Hugo Weaving will all be reprising their roles as Gandalf, Gollum, and Elrond in the upcoming film. Yay!

May 30, 2009 - Movie Review: Star Trek

Star Trek (2009)

Synopsis: The movie takes place during the early days of James T. Kirk. It shows how he joins and meets the crew of the Enterprise; all the while saving earth as we know it.

The Positive: It was a really well done movie. I mean really well done. It was brilliant how they had the crew of the Enterpise meet for the first time. It was like meeting old friends for the first time. The story line was original. It was fresh, you didn't feel like you had seen this setting a billion times. The special effects were incredible. I totally forgot they were special effects. I totally got lost in the story and didn't even think about that.

The highlight for me was the casting. The actors they chose were fantastic! I have to say my favorite was Karl Urban as "Bones" McCoy. Urban did his mannerisms to a tee. But really the whole cast was great. It was so fun to watch these actors play these characters. You could totally tell they had a blast making this film.

The Negative: There were two parts that were a little, er, awkward. There's one part when Kirk is in a bar and he talks to a girl and their dialague gets a little innapropriat. And then later there's a "steamy" bit between Kirk and some girl that was totally unnecissary. If it wasn't for those two parts (particularly the second) I would recommend this movie to everyone. There is also some swearing and scary images.

Overall Rating: A. I really enjoyed it. As soon as the first scene ended (which I'm not ashamed to say I cried during) I knew it was going to be great and it was. I would totally pay the money to go see it again, it is so worth it!

April 27, 2009 - Movie Suggestions

If you're looking for a good rental, here are a couple of fun ones.

Sahara (2005)

Here's a summery taken from www.imdb.com :

Master explorer and former US Navy Seal Dirk Pitt and his wisecracking buddy Al Giordino goes on the adventure of a lifetime of seeking out a lost Civil War ironclad battleship known as the "Ship of Death" that protects a secret cargo is lost somewhere in the deserts of West Africa. But while the two cross paths with a beautiful and brilliant U.N. scientist Dr. Eva Rojas who is being hounded by a ruthless dictator. She believes that the hidden treasure may be connected to a larger problem that threatens the world around them. Hunting for a ship that no one else thinks exists, Dirk, Al, and Eva must rely on their wits and their daring heroics to outsmart dangerous warlords, survive the threatening terrain, and get to the bottom of both mysteries.

This is a fun movie! I just saw it for the first time a couple of days ago. It's funny and pretty clean. I think this one is worth owning. It's sort of like a more intense National Treasure (interestingly enough, they both came out the same year). I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it,

*Caution: Some violence, swearing, and at the end the girl is in a bikini. Nothing too bad though.

Bedtime Stories (2008)

Here's the summery taken from www.imdb.com :

Skeeter Bronson (Adam Sandler) works [in a hotel] as a janitor and general servant, but unlikely as it seems, he still dreams of becoming the manager. When Nottingham [the owner of the hotel] announces a brand-new gigantic hotel project, he makes his future son-in-law, base Kendall (Guy Pierce), manager, shattering Skeeter's dream. At the same time Skeeter's sister Wendy (Courtney Cox) has to leave town for a job interview and asks him to alternate looking after her two children Patrick (Jonathan Morgan Heit) and Bobbi (Laura Ann Kesling) with Wendy's responsible-minded colleague Jill (Keri Russell). He doesn't get along with either Jill or the children, but his easy-goingness loosens them all up and once he starts telling his bedtime stories, the children grow fond of him and begin to bring in their ideas about how the stories should go. When the stories turn out to become true in real life, Skeeter tries to manoeuver the stories into a direction which will make his dream come true, too.
I was pleasantly surprised by this one too. While it was forgetable afterwards, it was funny during. It was nice because Adam Sandler didn't bother me as much as I expected either.
So all in all, it was a cute, fun movie, and a good rental.
*Caution: Some immodesty

March 30, 2009 - Movie Wrap Up

Okay, so March is basically over and I haven't done anything this month. My apologies.

So I'll wrap up this month with just some short movie reviews.

Northanger Abbey (2007)

I would say skip it. This was NOT good at all. I thought the casting was off, I thought the script was pretty lame, the characters were poorly done. It was just not done well at ALL. They also added a lot of sexual content that's not in the book. I hate that!

I do have to admit I don't like the book that much either. It's the first Jane Austen I've read that I didn't particularly like. That's weird I know. I do think if you're deciding between watching the movie and reading the book, I reccommend the latter.

Mansfield Park (2007)

I haven't read the book so I can't compare it that way so I'll have to do my best with just having seen the movie.

I didn't like it that much. I like Fanny (the main girl) she's a good character and she is very amiable. But that's as far as my liking goes. I though Edmund (the guy Fanny likes) was annoying and the side characters were hard to watch (except maybe Fanny's brother). They also played up the "physical" side of attraction. That was bothersom to watch.

I would love to read the book sometime. I really hope it's better than the movie, which is okay, but not great.

Emma (1996)

I highly reccommend this one. It's brilliant! As far as I'm concerned Gwyneth Paltrow is the ultamite Emma and this (I think) is her best performance to date. It's a great story, it's fun and funny. I really appriciate how when Emma makes a mistake she feels it and is sorry and tries to do better. That's rare in literature and movies.

Oh! And Mr. Knightly *sigh* Yeah, you should all see it!

Persuation (1995)

I love this story as well. I really like how is shows romance even at a later age (not that the 30s are that old but...) I think it beautifully demonstrates quiet, faithful love. It's very sweet.

Jane Eyre (1996, 1997, and 2006)

I love the story of Jane Eyre. It's dark and forboding but also has a glimmer of hope. It's scary but it's also funny at parts. I really like it!

As for the movies, I really like the 1997 version (I have only seen the other two version once each, so that might affect my decision). I really like the portrayal of both Jane and Mr. Rochester. I think the scary bits were well done and the acting was good.

I actually reccomend all three. The story is good enough to see 100 verisons!

Okay, there you go! Those movies should keep you busy for awhile! Sorry it's so sloppily written though, I'm in a hurry. :)

~B
