May 30, 2009 - Movie Review: Star Trek
Synopsis: The movie takes place during the early days of James T. Kirk. It shows how he joins and meets the crew of the Enterprise; all the while saving earth as we know it.
The Positive: It was a really well done movie. I mean really well done. It was brilliant how they had the crew of the Enterpise meet for the first time. It was like meeting old friends for the first time. The story line was original. It was fresh, you didn't feel like you had seen this setting a billion times. The special effects were incredible. I totally forgot they were special effects. I totally got lost in the story and didn't even think about that.
The highlight for me was the casting. The actors they chose were fantastic! I have to say my favorite was Karl Urban as "Bones" McCoy. Urban did his mannerisms to a tee. But really the whole cast was great. It was so fun to watch these actors play these characters. You could totally tell they had a blast making this film.
The Negative: There were two parts that were a little, er, awkward. There's one part when Kirk is in a bar and he talks to a girl and their dialague gets a little innapropriat. And then later there's a "steamy" bit between Kirk and some girl that was totally unnecissary. If it wasn't for those two parts (particularly the second) I would recommend this movie to everyone. There is also some swearing and scary images.
Overall Rating: A. I really enjoyed it. As soon as the first scene ended (which I'm not ashamed to say I cried during) I knew it was going to be great and it was. I would totally pay the money to go see it again, it is so worth it!
