Claire earned her wingrunner patch this past Wednesday at Awana!  So of course it had to be sewn on right away ya know.  She loves Awana!!

Apr. 30, 2009 - My Awana Winners!!

Well, Awana is over for another season. Last night we had the Awards and Fair night and it was a blast.  Emily, Tyler and Claire all received book completion ribbons!  Yes!  BUT, what was even more awesome was the fact that Claire received a trophy for 2nd Place Sparky Clubber of the Year!  WooHoo!!  THEN, Emily received a trophy for 1st Place T&T Clubber of the Year!  I am so proud of my kids!!  They had so much fun playing all the games, eating all the food and then buying prizes with their Awana Bucks they won at the games.  Here is a picture of my "Awana Winners!" 

They even got their face painted...what a great night for the kids!

Apr. 2, 2009 - Awana Update

I have not posted an Awana update in some time.  The kids are doing fabulous!  Emily is working on all the extra credit in her book and although she may not finish all the extra credit (they are VERY hard), I give her credit for doing them!  Sometimes the extra credit sections involve learning 4 new verses and reviewing 4 old verses w/no more than 2 helps from her leader!  She is doing great!  Tyler finished his Hiker Handbook last night!  Woo Hoo!  Earned his patch to wear under the crown and he was so thrilled.  He now works in the Hiker Workbook.  This is quite an accomplishment for him, finishing a book in Awana is not always an easy feat to do.     Claire finished her workbook about 2 weeks ago and earned her Sparky Pin!!  Yes folks, that was her goal and she did it!!  Right now she is working on some extra credit verses the Sparky directors put together.  Below are some pictures I thought I would share with you.

Feb. 21, 2009 - Awana Grand Prix

For the last  month the kids have been working on Grand Prix Cars.  Basically you get a block of wood, some wheels and the rest is up to you.  This is our 4th year doing this. This year, Emily made a dog-mobile, Claire made a Gina-mobile (after our cat), and Tyler made a cheese-mobile.   Tyler and I had to stay home last night from the Grand Prix (because we were sick), but that's okay.....they let his sisters run his car in the race and his car ended up winning 2nd place in Design!  WooHoo!!  Here are some pics as the cars were being made, then....the race.

Feb. 5, 2009 - T & T triumph!

EMILY has been busy working on extra credit in her book.  Man, I tell you the silver extra credit sections are hard...good...but very hard.  Last night for example she reviewed the following verses: Ecclesiastes 7:20, John 1:1, Acts 4:12, and Psalm 86:11 AND had to say these new ones as well...Romans 3:23 (which she already knew), 1 John 5:5, 2 Corinthians 5:21, and Proverbs 8:33a !   She had to say these all with no more than 2 helps!  SHE DID IT!   Way to go girly!!

Feb. 5, 2009 - Sparkie News!

Our Sparkies had a great night! 

 TYLER: finished his book (well, except for visitor credits) and is now working on the "Hiker Review Meadow" which is a compilation of  8 verses!!  Way to Go Buddy! 

CLAIRE is still working in her "Frequent Flyer Cards" and is doing very well.  These verses are becoming a little more difficult for her but she is determined to finish it to get a Sparky pin!  You gotta love that determination!   Keep it up ClaireBear!

Feb. 5, 2009 - sdrawkcab Night at Awana!!

It was back wards night at Awana!  What fun! The kids could wear their vests/shirts backwards, pants and whatever else backwards as well.  They got to play games backwards and our T and T group did counsel time schedule backwards!  Here are some pics of my lil' darlings, being backwards.  Now, note, Tyler's vest is not backwards (that bugged him waaay to much), but his shirt and pants were backwards.

It was a fun night at Awana...I even filled in back on my old Cubbie stomping ground by doing their bible story (what a blessing to be with those little ones again!)

Dec. 11, 2008 - Awana Update

WooHoo!  Mr. Tyler finished his Hiker Book and started his review of the book as well and went all the way through the rank path!  Good Job Buddy!! 

Miss ClaireBear is working hard in her extra credit book and said 2 verses last night.  The verses are getting challenging...which is great!!  She is having a blast with it. 

Miss Em is working on her last Discovery Zone in the book and will most likely finish it next week!  She is working so hard.  After she finishes the Discovery Zones she has to go back and complete all the extra credit sections (these will be a challenge!).  

NEXT WEEK IS THE GIANT ICE CREAM SUNDAE!!  All the Awana Clubbers will get to eat a giant sundae  (I hope leaders are included!)

Dec. 4, 2008 - News from the "T&T Tour"

Miss Em: Had a good night last night, she passed 5 sections and earned a candy bar from her leader.  She was so thrilled!  She is working on the last "zone" in her book and will finish it in the next week or so.  Then she goes through the book and does all the extra credit sections.  Em is having such a good year this year which is wonderful after the horrible struggle we had last year.  Her friends Mariah and Michelle were there last night (both 3rd graders) and so they became like the 3 Musketeers.  They are such sweet girls. 

Miss Em has been reviewing all the books of the bible because throughout her book she has certain sections where she has to say them, boy, she can say them fast!  The good news about this is, MOM is learning them too.  I, of course, cannot say them as fast as her, but I am getting better at it!  Humbling heh?  I never mind learning through my children, sometimes they are the best teachers!

Dec. 4, 2008 - News from the "Sparks Spot"

 Mr. Tyler finished his book last night!  So, now he goes back through it and then does the "Island" which is about 7 other verses and then he will work in a workbook, which is really hard in my opinion, but he can do it!  He was so excited, he has worked so hard!  Good job buddy!

Miss ClaireBear had one verse ready for last night, but for some reason unbeknownst to me, it was not signed.  I asked her if she said it and she said, "No I wasnt ready."  Hmmmm, I 'll have to see about this.  Not sure what happened there.  She had fun anyways. 

So, my Sparkies had a good time last night and are looking forward to 12/17 when it is the night of the GIANT SUNDAE!

Nov. 20, 2008 - News from the "T&T Tour"

Miss Em: Finished 1/2 of Discovery Zone 7.  She has the other 1/2 to finish and then Discovery Zone 8 and she is done with the book.  Then she goes back and does all the extra credit and if she finishes all that she starts the Awana's "Take it to Heart Program" where she will memorize passages of scripture. So, she is doing just awesome!  She was thrilled her friend Michelle was there again last night (two peas in a pod).   :)

Nov. 20, 2008 - News from the "Sparks Spot"

 The Sparkies in the family had a good night in Awana yesterday.  They recited their verses and one learned a good life lesson (I'll get to that).  Miss ClaireBear: who is working through her "Frequent Flyer Cards" finished the review section, earned her review patch and is now working on new verses to earn her Sparky pin.  Mr. Tyler: Recited all of Psalm 23 !!  Way to go dude!  He has one more verse and a few paperwork activities to do and he will be done with the book and then begin reviewing it again.  He is just thrilled!  Mr. Tyler learned a lesson last night.  He learned that you can be "guilty" by association.  Although he did not get into trouble, he learned that it is very important to watch the company you keep.

Nov. 13, 2008 - News from the "T&T Tour"

Our T& T club was huge last night...almost 40 kids!  Wow!  Miss Em finished Discovery Zone 6 last night after taking a hiatus last Wednesday to keep me company at home (I was sick).  She has two more Discovery Zones to do, then the Extra Credit Gold and Silver sections and she will be done with her book.  What a better year she is having!  Last year was horrible and we almost thought of giving it up, but we stuck with it and we can see that she did grow thru that struggle she had last year.  Emily enjoyed seeing her friends Michelle and Mariah last night, it was so nice seeing her sit there and chatting with them like girls will do (giggling and talking).......she is growing up so fast!

Nov. 13, 2008 - News from the "Sparks Spot"

 Last night was a great night for the Sparkies in the family.  They  had a wonderful bible story from Mr. Deal (Rural Bible Missionary). The kids went on and on and on about it.  He is such a wonderful story teller and has a refreshing way of explaining the Word of God to children.

Mr.  Tyler is currently working thru Psalm 23 and is up to verse 4......two more to go!  That is a hard one to learn, lots of big words for a little mouth to say, but not to big for a little heart to understand.  Tyler was excited to show his good  friend Caleb that he had indeed lost his front tooth!

Miss ClaireBear finished her Hanglider book last week and is now working on her "Frequent Flyer Cards" as her review and she is doing wonderful with that as well.  She reviewed the SPARKS code last night and passed with flying colors.  She is so excited and says her favorite part of Sparks is her friends.
