"So do you live out here?"  Henry asked as they started to walk.  Polly laughed,
"no, I live in the village. I'm just taking some cake my Mother made to Grandmother."

"Your Grandmother is the only one who lives back here?"

She laughed again.
"She's not really my Grandmother. Almost all the kids in the village call her that. You must be from out of town, or something."

"No, well, kinda. I live several miles out of town."

There was a pause,
"So, is Grandmother the only one who lives down here?" He asked again.

"I think so, I've never seen anyone else, or any roads leading anywhere else on this road."

She glanced back at Sydon and Thornton, who were once again riding atop the back of the cow.

"You have quiet the little group here.  Where are you going?"

Henry explained that he had been on the way to the village to sell the cow, but decided to see where this road led to.

"Do your cats follow you everywhere?"

Were not his cats, Sydon grumbled. Henry smiled, Polly couldn't hear what he had said. He was still getting used to that.

"Most the time.  These are only two of my cats, I own a lot more, they just stayed at home."

Sydon started to growl very quietly so only Henry could hear him. Polly turned to look at him.

"That one doesnt look very nice. What's his name?"

"Sydon."

"That's a strange name. Did you name him?"

Henry shook his head.

"Who did?"

He stopped walking and looked up at Sydon.

"I don't know."

"How did you know his name was Sydon then?"

Henry shrugged, "That's just what I've always known his name is."

"What's the other one's  name?"

"Thorton."

"Did you name him?"

"No."

"He doesnt look as mean as the other one, may I stroke him?"

Is that alright with you?  Henry asked Thorton.

"Well may I?"

Henry looked at her for a moment then realized it had taken him a moment to ask Thorton if she could, and to anyone else it looked like he had been ignoring her.

I'd love her to! Thorton replied.

"Sure, go ahead."

Henry had to stop walking again, so she could pet him, so he stopped and turned to look at Sydon. He didn't look to happy.

Polly thrust her bundle of weeds towards Henry.

"Hold these for me."

He took them, and watched in amazement as she reached up and pulled Thorton into her arms.
He had never tried to hold the cats before. He had never even thought he could for some reason. He had always been under the impression that they wouldn't like it.

Well he was wrong. Polly was scratching behind Thortons ears and he was purring so loud it sounded like a heard of horses was passing by.

"He's so cute and soft."

"Yeah."

Henry looked down at the "flowers" he was holding, most of them were dandelions.

"Why are you carrying weeds around?"

Polly looked indignant.

"They aren't weeds! Those are wild flowers, and I'm  going to give them to grandmother."

"Maybe you should get rid of all the ones with thorns first."

Polly gentle placed Thorton back on the cows back, and took the bouquet from Henry.

"I take it you don't have any sisters?"

"How do you know that?"

"For one thing, if you had them, they would teach you about wild flowers. For another thing you don't know how to talk to a lady.

"I've never even seen a lady, so what's that got to do with anything?"

Polly lifted her skirts to keep them out of the mud as she continued to walk down the road.

"You have too seen a lady. I'm a lady."

Henry scoffed.

"You don't look like one."

"How do you know if you've never seen one?"

"Because if you were a lady, I don't see why anyone would want to be one." He said calmly.

Polly poked her tounge out at him, then dropped her skirt,  turned and kept walking. Henry had to run to catch up to her.

"Do you wish you had sisters?" She asked.

"No."

"Do you have brothers?"

"No."

"Don't you ever get lonely?"

Henry thought about it for a moment then said, "no, not really."

"How come?"

"The cats I guess."

"Then maybe I should get a few cats, because I sure do."

We really should be getting back.

Henry looked back at Sydon.

Your probably right.

He had been listening to Polly chatter on for some time now, and he was getting tired of it. He held up his hand to stop her.

"I've got to be heading back now, I still need to get to the village and sell this cow."

"Okay, next time you're in the village stop by and see me. I'll introduce you to this boy I know, who has three dogs."

"Okay, sure."

He turned to go. "Bye."

"Bye."

With that she skipped away up the road.
