How does Your Garden Grow?

Posted in Show and Tell

This week I would like to share a picture of my small Medieval herb garden as well as pictures of some of my other gardens and how they have grown.

My small medieval herb garden includes: tansy (the taller green plant in the background) which was used as a strewing herb, disinfectant,  and insecticide. In some ancient cultures, it was also used to preserve the dead.  It also includes yarrow  (busy plant on below the tansy on the left) which was used to staunch blood flow.   Included also are: lavender,  sage, mint, oregano,  and one cilantro plant in which the seeds blew into the flower bed.

I included some flowering plants for a cottage garden look, as well as chamomile (used for fevers, insomnia, and asthma,) and catmint  (which had medicinal uses.)

Plus, here is some of  my chickory and comfrey, which have grown tremendously in the past few weeks.

Finally, here is a picture of my wormwood, valerian, southernwood, artemsia, beebalm,  new fennel, lavender, oregano, and more.

I love your little peace of serenity here! What neat garden. The little thing you have in the center is neato! Such character your garden has. I'd like my garden to grow a bit faster!!!

I was thinking my creativity had left me last week, but low & behold, here it is again and I'm back in action. I'm loving finding fun things for the kids to study. And to boot, the kids are sooooo enjoying the weather unit. It's worth the hours I've put in getting the first two lessons done. My hubby said it's like I'm back in college!! But its worth it when the kids are getting os much and really taking it in.

The Holy Spirit always has terrific study ideas.....thats how I find mine. Ask Him and see what He shares with you. :o)

Have a blessed evening.

You have an amazing variety of herbs! Very impressive and beautiful. The only one I usually grow is basil, it's my favorite.

Yes, I'd love you to add me to your friends list, I just added you.

Blessings,
Melissa

I gotta tell you -- I envy you gals who do gardening. I wish I could do it, but my back just wouldn't take it. I'd end up spending more money at the chiropractor than what I've save on groceries.

There is a lady at church who has a huge garden. One day, dd and I got to take a plane ride over our city. We flew over her house. I took some pictures of her garden from the air. They really showed up because of how big they are. She thought it was interesting to see the aerial view.

I think this is a very cool hobby! My Mom would love it. She is very in to gardening. I enjoy container gardening immensely, and can't wait to plant this weekend. Plants are always my Mother's Day gift. That, and a new container if we can afford it! Thanks for the pictures.

Everything is growing so well, I wish my garden was doing so well! Have you ever grown some of those herbs in pots? I was thinking about growing a few on my front porch.

Wow! a garden with a theme. My herb garden's theme is MINT. It's the only thing that I've gotten to grow so far.

beautiful garden. I am just starting mine here. (We moved here a year ago. There are beutiful flowers yet no veggie and herb garden!) I am anxious to get it going but it's been raining here to work outside- even though my kids would be thrilled to play in mud! :)
Yes, you may certainly add me to your friends list. I will do the same with you but do use this homeschoolblogger site or Pam's private reflections most?
Also- send me an e-mail so I can e-mail you to get your address or just PM me so I can get it and no one else sees it! I'm glad you won! I hope you enjoy it all. Just sorry you won't have it By Mother's Day but the devotional is great year-round. I am really enjoying mine. Have a wonderful Mother's Day!

Beautiful! Do you dry your herbs by hanging them upside down on rafters or something?

That is so attractive! You've got me thinking I should put in an Italian seasoning herb garden. We go through a lot of that around here. That might be fun to dry it and use it.

Ooooh! Beebalm! I loved it when I had it at the old house. You don't happen to have any seeds from it, do you?

Had to pop over to see you and your blog and wish you a happy Mother's Day! :'D
