Have you ever had a day when you wished you didn't get out of bed? This was my Monday. Being the carefully organized (!) person that I am, I wrote out my to do list. It looked like this:
1. Drop daughter off for youth retreat
2. Go by post office (this is a must, because hubby's paperwork must be mailed on Monday or no weekly pay)
3. Get gas
4. Go by Walgreen's and Rite-Aid
5. Have relaxing lunch w/son at Chik-Fil-A (using money saving coupon)
6. Drop son off at MIL's
7. Take father to doctor
8. Run any needed errands for father after appt.
9. Drop off father, go pick up son
This sounds simple--until I couldn't find my keys. The kids and I searched frantically through the house, even looking in unlikely places like the fridge. No keys. Daughter began to envision herself having to walk to the church, dragging luggage.
I call my father and ask if I can borrow a vehicle until I can find keys. He agrees, but says it will be a while as he is not ready to leave. Just as daughter is on point of panic, my dad arrives. He drives us to the church to drop off daughter and by the post office. He spends time complaining that he didn't know that both girls and boys went on the church youth retreat. I try to explain that they are separated, to no avail.
We drive back over to father's house to pick up the borrowed car. I realize I have left the coupon for the money saving lunch at home, as well as my father's medical records as I sped out of the house. I jump into borrowed car, and realize that someone has syphoned out all the gas. Son is in back seat yelling, "Bugs! Bugs are in the car!" It turns out to be fruit flies, but as I turn to look, I back into a tree.
I bow my head against the steering wheel and begin to ---laugh hysterically. (A reaction to stress?)
My son and father gaze at me openmouthed.
For some reason, this was a turning point of my day. I decide to look at the bright side of things.
* No damage was done to the car as I was going five mph.
* I was able to send off mail and deliver daughter on time.
* Son could claim starvation with MIL, who would give him lunch.
* When I calmed down and began to really pray about it, I found my keys. (in a strange place--still don't know how they got there.)
* Did it really matter that Walgreen's and Rite-Aid might have to wait a day?
* We made it to the doctor's appointment on time. (We got bad news from the doctor, so maybe we could have been late for that one.)
Isn't it strange how perspective can make your whole day different? Hope yours is a great one!
