Mondays on Mothering--Is This Quality Time?

Have you ever done something that you consider not to smart just to make your kids happy?  My kids are always wanting me to spend "quality time" with them.  However, their idea of quality time and my idea of quality time are not the same.  (I mean, I think everyone could bond over weeding the garden.)

On our recent vacation in May, my husband allowed our children to search online for places they might want to visit when we were in St. Louis.  (This is a mistake. Do Not Do This!  Your child will pick out the most dangerous place imaginable.)  My daughter, who obviously has a death wish for her mother, picked out a place called the "City Museum."

Keep in mind that I do not like heights.  Of course, what is the first thing she wants to do at this museum?  Climb a metal tunnel that goes up four stories in the air!  And what does she say?  "Come with me Mom.  It'll be fun!"

Then, she asked me to climb through some sort of metal torture chamber with her.

Thankfully, my husband was laughing to hard to get a picture of me climbing to the top of the rope ladder, falling off, and rolling down the slide beneath it.  (Actually, this seemed to provide humor for most of the bystanders.  Glad I could brighten everyone's day.)

Naturally, having spent quality time with my daughter, I'm sure she'll want to spend quality time with me in the garden.     Join Amy for more Mothering on Mondays or to join us!

Your too funny - and way braver than me! I don't think I could have done what you did, even in the name of good motherhood and quality time!

Make sure to get some great pics when your daughter spends her quality time with you swatting mosquitoes, sweating and dodging bees... :)

Very funny! I would love for you to come over and comment of what you and the kiddos liked best about St. Louis. We are going there in October.

I didn't know there was something soooo exciting to do in St. Louis. The boys would love it! Thanks for sharing the photos. We will definitely have to make plans for a road trip.

Jul. 21, 2008 - Funny how there are never pictures of mom

--at least not in our scrapbooks. As the ones taking the pictures we seldom end up in the photos.

I've heard great things about Teaching Textbooks for math. Let me know how it goes. And I enjoyed learning about your dh a couple of posts back!

I can SO relate to you! I don't do heights either!! Both of my boys get GREAT enjoyment out of this!!

I have to admit~seeing someone rolling down a slide would've probably provided much enjoyment for me as well!! (sorry:} )

Thanks for sharing this despite the humiliation!!

HAHAHA! What a good sport you are. Love the description, too. Wish I could have been one of the by-standers...I mean I would have been praying for your safety and not laughing one bit, of course. :-)

You have come back to blogging with a bang. What a neat post. I have to admit I am not sure if I would be as brave as you. [0;

I hope this shows your dd you really do love her to go as far as this for her.

That was too funny! I wish I could have been there. That place looks really neat. My kids (dh is included in that) would have loved it. I would have been where you were being that I am also scared of heights.

Thru the tumbling and the fear I hope you found time to laugh at yourself and have fun!

Remember to post the pictures of dd in the garden!

Thank you for sharing.

Blessing,
JEN

Not sure I would have been brave enough to go through that, except, of course in order to rescue my little ones. Great description of events. What fun!
I had to laugh at your last comment to me... my HUSBAND ( not brother!! :) has 2 brothers and 2 sisters. I've met the younger brother and sister but not the older. I know you were thinking he had so many we just hadn't had the time to meet. Nothing so exciting. They are just an 'interesting' family!

Oh Pam! LOLOLOL What a laugh indeed. At least you can giggle with all the other folks around......
and to boot, now your garden will be weeded quicker with 4 hands, rather than 2.

Hope your summer has been super.....I've been away and am not trying to re-group and get back into a learning routine, catch up with friends and get back to blogging.

You are so BRAVE, wow! I don't know if I could have been so brave or not but I think its wonderful that you did this for your daughter! Your right, she has to do time in the garden now, lol

Angela

BTW, I miss your reviews, if you get a chance join us again sometimes. Suzy from suzyscribbles is started reviewing some of her books on there now, she asked me if Pam had ever done a TR, because she thought you would be great, and I said how funny she would ask because Pam has. I just thought it was neat how she thought of you!

Oh, you are brave! That thing looked awful! I'm glad you lived to tell about it. Luckily, my husband usually steps in and does those kind of things with our DD, I don't think I could have done it. Kudos to you!

Hey Pam, you made my evening with your "me against the cockroach" line.....HA HA! I have a short clip of the race, I'll have to post it.

And yes, it's been a great summer, but I've missed all my blogging friends!

We went to a water over the weekend. There is a water slide that is a 4 story DROP! My kids begged and begged me to go on that. I reluctantly rode with my daughter (you get on a two person ring type thing). When we were at the top getting into the ring I started reciting, "The Lord is my Shepherd"! My dd thought that was so funny. I will NEVER do that or anything else like it again unless, as I told my daughter, someone pays me a minimum of $10,000 in cash up front! LOL!
