Encouraging Creativity "When Pigs Fly"

We, as the "warm, caring parents" that we are, have always tried to encourage creativity in our children.  My daughter, however, has always tried to find new (read expensive) "educational activities."  She has discovered that, while I will say "No" to impulse buys, current fads, and anything deemed "unaffordable",  I will usually be willing to purchase an item "for educational purposes."

She has experimented with Japanese Culture...... (Here she is at a Japanese festival.)

photography..... (This stage has been going on for years!)

Her latest "educational" endeavor occurred last week.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if we, the "warm, caring parents" allowed her to raise a pug?  After all, the puppies aren't that expensive,  just $300.00.  Didn't we want her to share her love of animals?  Allow her the experience of having something to be responsible for? Give her something to care for?  (We have a cat.  She could take care of her.)

Her father's response?
"When's pigs fly."

Shortly after this, I pass by my back door to see this sight.....

Yep, that's a flying pig.  Perhaps we have encouraged to much creativity.  (In case you're wondering, she still didn't get her pug.)

Thanks for the laugh. That pig is adorable!!! I'm sure that creativity will stand her in good stead when she has a couple littles of her own. Thanks also for the gentle reminders you always give me on Monday. Thanks also for being faithful!

My post is up too. (now)

That looks and sounds just like something my DD would do! She too has been pushing the 'responsibility' issue with us to get her a puppy. I told her that her fish was responsibility enough for now. We already have a dog, anyway, but it's not "hers".

Oh my! Pam, that is sooooo funny! Reminds me of the 'creative' things my sister and I would do to get things. Once, when we wanted a pool, we made up a song about wanting a pool and would sing it whenever our dad was around.

Goofy, I know. But we did end up with a pool. ... ... years later. I wonder if that was because we finally gave up on the song?

Her humor must be a bright spot when things get difficult. My dd just got a puppy only to have to put it down with two weeks. It evidently came from the pound with distemper. The only bright spot would be that at least, since it was a pound puppy, we didn't pay $300 for it!

Blessings to you

Stef here, too lazy to log in. You have a house full of comedians! Love the flying pig! Now that would be a great Bloggy Award. The When Pigs Fly award, for the most ambitious request from a child.

ooooooo.... pugs are just so cute. I think your cute, creative daughter would just love it to death! Now there is that word out there: "pugugly" but there's just something so endearing about them. But a word of warning. I think they have to be an indoor pet in extreme temperatures. It's that cute little nose of theirs....

That will be a great tool for blackmailing her when your a grandparent. Tell her you can't get her any pet that you are not willing to take full responsibility for yourself because moms always end up taking care of the animals. Me - I get the 5 chickens, 5 fish, 3 frogs, hamster, and dog every morning and evening, and the cleaning up after them. She'll get it all when she's a mom.
