Falling Apart at Forty

Many book bloggers last week were touring the book, "Flirting with Forty."  I, on the other hand,  never flirted with forty, just ran into it full steam ahead.
On my visit to the doctor last Monday, he found that my blood pressure had risen dramatically, much higher than its ever been before.  If it's not down in two weeks, I get to discuss a "treatment program."
My hubby's helpful advice?  "We're just at that age when stuff like that is going to start happening to us, Pam."    I am still awaiting my other test results to see what could be causing my problems, but I believe blood pressure has been a big factor.

I am sure you are wondering,  "How does that relate to mothering?"  Because I feel unwell, I am not able to do as many fun things (or boring, educational adventure, depending on who you ask), with my kids.
However, we did get to visit with some of the animals at the Christmas tree farm.
Here's Ash feeding a lamb...... Brit refused to feed it because she wanted to look for a tree.

I "asked" the kids to accompany me through the barn.  We saw some strange looking chickens.  I don't have any idea what kind they are.
a cute pot bellied pig...
and a very thankful turkey....

Many of  the animals were wandering around outside.  Of course the kids were much more interested in a tree than animals, but when an educational opportunity presents itself, I can't resist.

Pam,

I am sorry you are not feeling well. I was going through the same thing. When my blood pressure was high, I literally couldn't do anything, but rest. The doctor put me on medication, and I started to exercise. The medication has helped me.

I am also taking medication for my chloresterol. Unless I lose some weight, I probably will take the medication for the rest of my life. It stinks to be over 40.

I hope your blood pressure decreases. I will be praying for you.

Hi Pam
That looks like a fun place you took your kids. The chickens are the cutest! I wonder what kind they were.
The forties....yes, that was a tough decade for me, too. But you know what, it doesn't have to stay that way, you can correct what's going wrong. I'd research the nutritional way of doing things, and give that a try before they put you on drugs. I have found so many things to be "fixable" through the most amazing of simple remedies, when the alternative in the regular doctor's world would have been drugs/surgery/etc...

I feel healthier at fifty than I was in my forties. So, don't just accept that it's all down from the age forty. It doesn't have to be.

Looks like fun. I love when we can work in those "extras" along with whatever our intended purpose for the trip was. Did you find the perfect tree? We plan to get ours next weekend.

Sorry to hear that you still aren't feeling well. I, too, am having a hard time adjusting to the 40's - not so much physically as mentally. Where has the time gone?!

Praying for you

Will be praying for you for sure! I feel every year I'm sure am moving slower. My knees, my back-I'm really in trouble by the time I hit 50. Your right we don't want to be reminded about our age and bodies, huh?

We were just talking about getting a "real" tree when the kids are a little older. Since we are both allergic, and only likely to go that route once; we wanted to wait until they are all old enough to remember :).

Thanks for sharing this week! I did post earlier, but I didn't sign Mr. Linky for you this time :). Thanks for letting me know.

hi pam, just having a quick read although junior has just woken up. a cup of brown rice every day really does lower the blood pressure. i heard a naturopath telling a client this one day and recommended it to my uncle who is on meds for hypertension.
i'm undertaking some changes here myself and really recommend a book called the Ph miracle by dr robert young. but better go here as junior has been presented to me by husband.
take care,

(((( Pam ))))) Will be praying for your health, friend.

I had to giggle at your 'thankful turkey' comment. Rightly so! Maybe he won't be so blessed next year!! HA

I have seen those ugly chickens....I have no idea what kind they are, but they are something to behold, that's for sure!!

Have a great week!

Dec. 9, 2008 - 16th Birthday? Oh, My!

When is the big event? My dd's birthday is the 19th and I am totally unprepared for it. (That's easier to get away with for a 6th birthday than for a 16th!)

Blessings,

Thanks for popping by. I'm okay. I'm waiting on results which should come within 10 days, but I don't think I'm ill! Yep, I hit 40 like a ton of bricks too!

I will slam into 40 TOMORROW! UGH! I'm not ready for it at all. I've been thinking about using any money I get for my b-day and/or Christmas to pay for a gym membership. I'm not disciplined enough at all to exercise all by me lonesome at home, so maybe if I have money invested, I'll go. We'll see.

Greetings,
I happend upon your blog when I was hit the random blogger button...so I wanted to say hello.

Oh, the white chickens in your picture are think they are silkies... we used to have some like that a couple years ago (they didn't do well in our Rainy Oregon weather) so we are back to having more wet weather kinds of chickens... :)

I hope you have a wonderful day! Merry Christmas!

I have noticed that my health drastically declines every fall, and I truly believe it is related to holiday stress. I am one of those creative perfectionists. I have grand plans, and bringing them to fruition the way I want gives me stress. It is something I have prayed about and need to keep praying about! Among other things, I usually have more pain and get a new symptom. This year it was pain in my jaw, which still resurfaces occasionally. So I definitely get the "not feeling well" part! I learned to be thankful and enjoy life with gusto when I do feel good. :-)

Love and prayers,
Farrah

40 hit me pretty hard, too. It helped knowing that I wasn't alone. :-) Anyway, hope your health issues get resolved and you get to feeling better soon!
