my new blog home

Posted in blogging blah blah

yes, after MUCH deliberations in my head and heart, i decided to start a homeschool blog elsewhere

i LOVE HSB, all  the blog friends i have here and the great community here. But my sad computer cannot take all the continual changes that HSB does (i know that it's for our saftey...i have no complaint about that) and there's no new computer in my future, so i have to get on with what i need to do. i'll be copying a few posts for posting over there, and copying some for my own sake.

regarding sweet Knox...the seizure meds need to be out of his system before they can do another EEG...please continue to pray for the family and the friends and the medical staff

El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
El-Elyon na Adonia,
Age to age You're still the same,
By the power of the name.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
Erkamka na Adonai,
We will praise and lift You high,
El Shaddai.

Through your love and through the ram,
You saved the son of Abraham;
Through the power of your hand,
Turned the sea into dry land.
To the outcast on her knees,
You were the God who really sees,
And by Your might,
You set Your children free.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
El-Elyon na Adonia,
Age to age You're still the same,
By the power of the name.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
Erkamka na Adonai,
We will praise and lift You high,
El Shaddai.

Through the years You've made it clear,
That the time of Christ was near,
Though the people couldn't see
What Messiah ought to be.
Though Your Word contained the plan,
They just could not understand
Your most awesome work was done
Through the frailty of Your Son.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
El-Elyon na Adonai,
Age to age You're still the same,
By the power of the name.
El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
Erkamka na Adonai,
I will praise and lift You high,
El Shaddai.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai,

this morning's update wasn't good

"he took a turn for the worse last night. His reaction to light stimuli has decreased. The docs had a serious conversation with Dad last night and he's noticed a change in their demeanor. He said it is not time for any final decisions yet, as there are EEGs and other tests that they want to run, but the outlook is bad. "

out of step, out of steam

i wrote briefly about it on my other blog....

i surrender all

All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.

Refrain

I surrender all, I surrender all,
All to Thee, my blessèd Savior,
I surrender all.

All to Jesus I surrender;
Humbly at His feet I bow,
Worldly pleasures all forsaken;
Take me, Jesus, take me now.

Refrain

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.

Refrain

All to Jesus, I surrender;
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power;
Let Thy blessing fall on me.

Refrain

All to Jesus I surrender;
Now I feel the sacred flame.
O the joy of full salvation!
Glory, glory, to His Name!

Refrain

Good Friday wonderings

Posted in health and lifestyle (inculding food)

in my continuing study of Hebraic roots and customs, it continually boggles my mind just HOW MANY people eat HAM to celebrate the Ressurection   One of the few things that have seemed clear to me so far in my studyings is that the Levitical food laws are still applicable. In that infamous Acts passage where Peter sees the sheet with all things on it, it is clearly about the Gentiles being welcomed into the fold. If you really REALLY study that passage, it's clear that the one thing it is NOT about, it's food. And the other passage where it says "Jesus declared all foods clean"? well, THAT is interesting, but if you look closely at Scripture....the Bible only uses the word "food" when it talks about the Levitical foods....in other words, the FOODS that the LORD has already declared as clean.

just some "food for thought" on this Ressurection weekend...may you all be blessed beyond measure

offline for a bit

Posted in mumbo jumbo

i was offline for a few days, and BOY did the LORD open my eyes to alot in a short time...alot i really didn't want to see

so my time online will be limited...i will continue to blog, but i will be giving up several message boards, etc...*SIGH* but i can and have stayed online for many hours while my young ones just while away the day arguing, watching TV, or whatnot...and then i squeeze in some schoolwork to smooth over my ego

this week we are working on a little unit study for Holy Week...and i fully intend on getting  it DONE

then we will be on to Acts in our Bible study...i got my materials from Lamp and Quill, and i am quite excited! I'm also going to treat myself to my OWN copy of The Complete Jewish Bible...i had borrowed my cousin's for a while and decided I really need my own...

then we are onward with Colonial America, the War for Independance and all that

i also added a link button to  the Notebooking Nook, a great site! there's many freebies for Mystery of History, plus a few packets for sale...i'm especially eyeballing the Primary Copywork Pages    and Betsy has her own blog here at HSB

oh, and if you go over to my Xanga blog, there's a contest for a Dyson Vacuum...yes! a DYSON!!!

blessed week everyone!

well, it came!

Posted in curriculum chit chat

my Mystery of History! and WHAT great condition it's in PLUS all the little extras she threw in! what a blessing! i spent an hour last night reading the parents notes in the front, and i'm making my list of "other supplies" needed and figuring the best way to go about what we need (i need a new binder to put this in, but hey, i LOVE binders  )

my wish list thus far:

The Holman Bible Atlas , which reminds me to go answwer a post on my favorite cyber hangout, but this is a great tool, and the maps and all are laid out chronologically! (i'm into that  )

a good globe...we haven't ever had one that wasn't already out of date or broke

i know a few books will be on the list as well...i have to see what is available from the library and Paperback Swap first

i promise though, that i will trudge through the rest of America before i start this...Kirky

Friday Report

nothing much to report today

this weekend we are getting our "teepee" making supplies...next week, while i read "Squanto" and maybe "Pocahontas" and all that fun stuff, i'll let them decorate some fabric and we'll have our teepee made...and i'll make some "indian fry bread" so we can sit in the teepee and watch some sort of DVD that deals with Indians...i'll have to go and search over on ActAdvantage...i have a free subscription thanks to TOS free gifts! they have TONS of great DVD's to choose from...i got a little overwhelmed

Sabbath dinner plans tonight are as follows, with the varying circumstances of 1) our ice storm and 2) my beloved may stay overnight by his brother, so we'll either have meatloaf and mashed potatoes or spaghetti

you can check my Xanga blog for my reading list, and as for what we are reading aloud, today happens to be Dr Suess' birthday!

since we don't eat pork anymore we'll have to find a suitable substitute for our annual "Green Eggs and Ham" breakfast  how about "Green Eggs and Turkey Sausage"??? (actually the boys had "green bacon" and bagels)

Suess games

Suess information (TONS of it!)

Suess lesson plans

i have an anthology of 13 Suess stories, including Yertle, McElligot's Pool and the one that always makes me cry "Oh! The Places You'll Go!" I know many people think of Suess as "twaddle" but we LOVE him!

off to go let the boys play in Suessville

Blessed Sabbath!

Sabbath customs

Posted in The Word and Its Lessons

suffice it to say, i am NO expert on Shabbat. I have a great love for the Hebraic roots of our faith and i have been studying them for about a year now more in depth. There are many places online that have much information on Hebraic customs. I will freely share what we try to do in our house, what *I* feel are truth of Scripture. I shall share some links for YOUR further study. Even as I share what I am leaning twoards, I share with you that my husband is not convicted over much of this. He feels that to know about Hebraic roots is important for many reasons, but doesn't feel the need to incorporate a Hebraic lifestyle into our family. We don't even agree that Sabbath is Friday and not Sunday  BUT.....this is what we try to do weekly to worship our Saviour

Exodus 20:8-11

 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

The very first thing i find interesting is that in all of the giving of the 10 Commandments (Ex 20:1-17) The LORD gives the longest command about the Sabbath (not making idols comes in second) The LORD, in His wisdom KNOWS that we have so much to take our time, concentration and other stuff that we will NOT rest one day per week...and that the rest is a GIFT!!!! So many times, we see it as a burden! I remember growing up in a county in NJ that had "Blue Laws"...you couldn't shop on Sundays. The only stores that were open on Sundays were bakeries, possibly a grocer and gas stations. And even at that, they closed at noon. There were very few "24 HR" stores, even our 7-11 was only open till 6PM on Sunday

So, once i really started studying this out, several things occured to me. 1) resting one day per week is a gift from God. 2) It was instituted at Creation

Gen 2:2-3

2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done

WOW! This is the oldest and longest standing command of God...the very first gift He gave us...a day to rest!

3) Sabbath is the SEVENTH day

a day according to Hebrew customs (IE: the Bible) is from sundown to sundown (it was evening and morning, the first day, Gen 1:5) So, the seventh day, according to our current calandar is Friday eve to Saturday eve. This, needless to say, does NOT go over well with most people

My wonderful hubbyman, who is very supportive of my Hebraic obsession, has consented to have "Sabbath dinner" on Fridays. Usually, my two younger ones and i will go out and shop for Sabbath dinner. I try to do this on Thursday after schoolwork. I try to make it fun and special. If i am really ambitious, i make Challah bread. Sometimes we'll buy some flowers for the table. After Friday review of schoolwork, we straighten up the house, turn off the TV, put all our clothes away, take showers, start whatever special dinner we decided on. We make our Sabbath table by using special linens and wine goblets (into which Kosher grape juice is poured  ) The boys really look forward to this special time. We eat late since hubbyman isn't home till about 6:30, so we don't do a strict "sundown" thing. The rest of the night is spent together, with no electronics (at least till the little guys are in bed) A few times i have also done saturday food as well, so we could REALLY spend the whole day quietly.

It's a hard habit to get into, i'll be honest. As much as we enjoy it, it hasn't become a set in stone thing here, as i would really like it to be. And, contrary to many, I am not "placing myself back under the Law" by keeping Sabbath. I am obeying the GOD that I love and that saved me from eternal death.

Friday report

Posted in The Word and Its Lessons

well, in the spirit of servanthood, we played a rousing round of "Lego pirate ship destroys castle even though Hagrid was guarding it"...we read the noontide prayers in "Eastertide" by Phyllis Tickle, linked over on the sidebar there...what a neat opportunity for not only regular prayer times, but times that resonate through the ages, all the way back to Yeshua himself and the Apostles...the New testament is rife with examples of them going to the Temple "at prayer times"...i'm really excited to be starting this tradition! Ms Tickle (imagine that being your name? ) has several of these prayer guides out, and i just may be picking up the "Springtide" one next

and we are also practicing having a servant's heart twoard others in our home...hard when Young B is trying to knock over the pirate ship that Young J is firing at us with  But i think we are making progress...i think

Sabbath dinner is planned for this evening, roasted chicken breast, rice and corn i think. I need to clear off the table for the candles

so, Blessed Sabbath to all

Homeschool equals Servanthood

Posted in The Word and Its Lessons

oh my poor heart! it has been so very convicted the past two days

i started a Lenten devotional yesterday. It's all about BEING a servant, not being SERVED  I am not good at this

i posted way back when (Jan, 2006) about how and why we started to homeschool (and have switched curriculums twice since  ) but just know that i came to homeschooling kicking and screaming.

I still kick and scream...even though i KNOW that this is the best for my family. I couldn't help but giggle when i read this sentence in my past post:

"and that's when we diescided to pull the boys out of school..."

We DIEscided (besides the fact that i cannot spell) is EXACTLY what i must do daily...DIE to myself and SERVE my family! I would be serving my beloved hubbyman, whose desire this is for our children. I would be serving him in obedience and love (notice that "die" is in that "O" word also). I would be serving my boys instead of being annoyed that they were interfering with my computer time, or instead of washing the dishes we could be playing a game. I could be serving my family by scrubbing my bathrooms also, but that  again is digressing from the homeschool aspect of this post

Homeschooling is serving. There is no way around that. I am serving my children by choosing the best curriculum for  them. I am serving them by reading aloud to them, by sharing my great love of reading WITH them, by helping them learn to read themselves. I am serving them by setting aside my own mathphobia and learning along with them once again the proper way to add and subtract. I am serving them by setting aside my time online to play 8 games in a row of Ballon Lagoon instead of telling them to watch 3 episodes of SpongeBob. I am serving them when i incorporate them into all that i should so around my house...cooking, cleaning, laundry, and shopping. More often that I like, they are not helping me, they are off somewhere watching TV or playing a video game...while i NEED some time alone, this is not when it should be...I am serving MYSELF and not them  and that breaks not only my kid's hearts, but Yeshua's heart as well.

Homeschooling serves my hubbyman, the Beloved of my Earthly life. The man whom God in His awesome knowledge created me to be the perfect mate for. I need to stop questioning that choice and serve my hubbyman with a fervor matched only by fervor for Christ Himself. I should joyfully school my boys and stop whining to my hubbyman that they "don't want to do it"...because it's actually ME that "doesn't want to", not them. I should serve my hubbyman by not constantly switching curriculums and purchasing things we don't need and can't afford because *I* have a whim. I need to serve my hubbyman by being content in his leading our family to homeschool. I am very lacking in that area.  Again, it breaks the heart of my Beloved's...hubbyman and Yeshua

BUT....by the Grace that is ours in Yeshua...by His very sacrifice, which is what we are focusing on in this lenten season...i can overcome all this "self" and truely become a servant. And that can start today

So, after i wash my face and bruish my teeth, i am off to serve my boys, and try to touch the Sacred, the Holy, even if that is a moment that my hands are scrubbing a toilet...because i am scrubbing that toilet with the heart of serving. And I will guide my boys in their education, because I am serving them. And prayerfully, hopefully, they will grow to be servants of Christ themselves

Blessings in this season of Lent...

Monday Update

Posted in blogging blah blah

we did NOT go to the Indian Museum today...it's just too STINKIN' COLD out

i did set up another blog though  no, really, it's just for a friend of mine and myself to do an online bible study...she asked me about it and i thought a joint blog would be a good way, with a weekend phone call...she doesn't blog though, so she's a tad confused (is this just my evil way of getting her to blog??? )

i think we will go through "A Woman of Freedom" by Cynthia Heald because i happened to have two copies of it, bith unused...now really, how many of us have unused study guides laying around??? seemed to be a "God-incidence" to  me

so, that's what we did today....the boys??? ummm, they....ummm, Young B is jogging around the living room, and Young J is besting his old score on Spyro  there will be plenty of time for math tomorrow

Friday report

Posted in mumbo jumbo

we had a very slow, partially sick week, so we spent alot of time watching TV

it snowed about 10 inches here...have i mentioned how very much i dislike snow year after year? well if i haven't, rest assured i am NOT in love with the white stuff...nope, not at all. I think it would be wonderful if snow could gently fall then disappear...that would be a good thing

we have a field trip Monday to an Indian museum...if we can get a ride  i really do not like being a one-horse family...even worse, i don't like to drive with too many people except my hubbyman...i'm really getting weird as i get older aren't i???  (don't answer that)

so i'll probably brave the cold and snow to get groceries today instead of tomorrow...then we can have a nice Sabbath even if some of us are less that healthy

dreaming of a beach...Blessed sabbath and weekend to all!
