About The Hunters

My dear sweet hubby, Ron, and I have been married for 20+ years. We began dating during my freshman year at Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville. He is my college sweetheart. We have ministered together in various ministries during our lives together. We pastored for 10 years in Florida. We moved to TN in 2000 to Co-Pastor with some friends of ours. The Lord has given me a fabulous provider whom I love more than any words I write could ever express. He is now the CEO at our denomination's publishing company, Randall House Publications. I am honored to support him.

Our oldest child is named Michael. He is now officially a teenager, although I don't think I'm old enough to have a teenager. He is a very sweet and considerate young man. He is my thinker and my reader. He absorbs every piece of new information that he comes across. He loves playing soccer, riding his bike, skateboarding, reading, watching the History Channel, the Military Channel, ESPN and any documentary on TV. I am privileged to be his Mother.

Lauren is our youngest child. She is just 15 months behind her brother in age. She is wise beyond her years. She has a sharp-witted tongue (which sometimes has to be tamed), a quick sense of humor and a heart for people and animals. She loves organizing anything and everything. She loves being with her friends, singing, talking on her cell phone and playing soccer. I am blessed to be her Mother.

Just the knowledge that a good book is awaiting one at the end of a long day makes that day happier. - Kathleen Norris

The Happy Chain

I just saw a terrific idea while checking out some stuff on Facebook.  I thought it was so great that I am actually going to write an entry telling you about it.  You know it's gotta be good if it actually makes me come and blog these days.  (I know I need to update more often - I really do know this - rest assured)

anyway, the idea is to keep track of everything that makes you happy for a set amount of time. At the end of each day you write each individual thing on a piece of paper and you make a Happy Chain out of it.  Remember those construction paper chains you used to make in elementary school to decorate your classroom with?  Isn't that a terrific idea?

It will certainly make you more aware of all the times you've actually been happy in a day to have to focus on them enough to write them down.  For someone who battles depression like me I'm thinking that having a visual proof that I HAVE been happy BEFORE will be a good thing.

So, I challenge you to make a Happy Chain - challenge your kids to make a Happy Chain - set an amount of time - gather your colorful paper and markers and get ready to be happy!!!!!

Why Women Should Vote!

WHY WOMEN SHOULD VOTE!!!!!!!

This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers; they lived only 90 years ago.

Remember, it was not until 1920

that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote.

And by the end of the night, they were barely alive.

Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of 'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'

(Lucy Burns)

They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.

(Dora Lewis)

They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack.

Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.

Thus unfolded the 'Night of Terror' on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson's White House for the right to vote.

For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.

(Alice Paul)

When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/suffrage/nwp/prisoners.pdf <http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/suffrage/nwp/prisoners.pdf

So, refresh my memory. Some women won't vote this year because- -why, exactly? We have carpool duties? We have to get to work?

Our vote doesn't matter? It's raining?

Last week, I went to a sparsely attended screening of HBO's new movie 'Iron Jawed Angels.' It is a graphic depiction of the battle these women waged so that I could pull the curtain at the polling booth and have my say. I am ashamed to say I needed the reminder.

All these years later, voter registration is still my passion. But the actual act of voting had become less personal for me, more rote.

Frankly, voting often felt more like an obligation than a privilege.

Some! times it was inconvenient.

My friend Wendy, who is my age and studied women's history, saw the HBO movie, too. When she stopped by my desk to talk about it, she looked angry. She was--with herself. 'One thought kept coming back to me as I watched that movie,' she said.

'What would those women think of the way I use, or don't use, my right to vote? All of us take it for granted now, not just younger women, but those of us who did seek to learn.' The right to vote, she said, had become valuable to her 'all over again.'

HBO released the movie on video and DVD . I wish all history, social studies and government teachers would include the movie in their curriculum I want it shown on Bunco night, too, and anywhere else women gather. I realize this isn't our usual idea of socializing, but we are not voting in the numbers that we should be, and I think a little shock therapy is in order.

It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn't make her crazy.

The doctor admonished the men: 'Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.'

Please, if you are so inclined, pass this on to all the women you know.

We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so hard for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic, republican or independent party - remember to vote.

History is now being made again !

Hubby on TV and Radio This Coming Week!!

If you were not in Life Group this morning you missed the big news for Ron’s week this week. Ron and his writing partner, Mike Waddell, will be traveling to NYC tomorrow to be interviewed for their book, Toy Box Leadership. They will be on a show Tuesday morning called Money For Breakfast that is on Fox Business Network at 7:00 a.m - 9:00 a.m. This channel is NOT the same as Fox News Network.  Here are the channels for the Nashville area:

* Cable:
Charter, Channel 107
Comcast, Channel 106
* Satellite:
DirecTV, Channel 359

They will also be interviewed for Pat Williams’ (SVP for Orlando Magic NBA team) radio program. They are, as yet, unclear about the timing of that program.

We also discussed the D6 Conference this morning. I thought I would tack on the website to this email so that you can read more about D6 Family and the D6 Conference. The website offers videos about the conference as well as videos done with D6 Family stories by a number of people you will recognize as members of TDF.

If you are not in our Life Group and reading this via one of my blogs - You can find the Fox Business Network channel in your area by visiting http://www.foxbusiness.com/channel_finder.html

Set those TIVO/DVRs!!!!
