He did some drawing with crayons.
3/13/07-- The baby was born and we have been trying to overcome the chaos! We were in the hospital for almost a month and then the baby came home on an insulin pump. It was a really difficult experience.

A busy, interactive week
October 23-26
10/23
Noah said "Good Morning" to me in response to me saying it first. He was very verbal and talkative. He made 50 verbalizations. We did our tracing lines and A. We sang Old Mac Donald and Noah did a good job of pointing to the pictures. He repeated "moo" for the cow says "moo" with a model. He drank less than 2 ounces. We did a cutting and gluing exercise. He said "10" after I counted to 9. I would really like to master tracing lines. I don't want to bore or frustrate him, but I really want to master out of at least horizontal lines.
We read "Sing a Song of People" to the tune of Sing a Song of Sixpence. We read some fall poems which he loved. He liked blow like the leaves in the wind. He went potty and we sang John Jacob and Twinkle, Twinkle. I sang it softly and slowly and he sang the entire song with me. He drank 7 oz. with Tara too!
10/24
7 oz. Pediasure, went potty.
We worked on Red and Blue treasures. He didn't seem to get it. We worked on our tracing letters (A,a) and lines. We sang Old MacDonald and Sing a Song of People. We did our fall trees and blowing. He blew his nose and wiped. He worked on the shaped pegboard and needed quite a bit of help. He was really into My Blue Boat. 41 verbalizations.
10/25
We started with My Blue Boat. He drank 7 ounces. We did our fall poems, Sing a Song of People, Old MacDonald. We worked on lacing, ziplock bag with book, tracing lines, painting, cutting, gluing. We did our skill songs and he was really happy. We did Red and Blue Treasure. He wiped his mouth and nose.
He played with the neighborhood kids and let them read to him, play parachute and swing while he joined in. 36 verblizations.
10/26
50 verbalizations today. Noah got addicted to stimming on bells today. We did coloring, cutting, and pasting. He refused to go potty or to drink any Pediasure. It was very frustrating although I did get a lot of words out of him. He dumped about 7 oz. of Pediasure out. Have I been too pushy? We sang Jingle Bells and Pop Goes the Weasel. He became angry when I wanted to sing Bingo and bit himself. Very frustrating! He was happy after he had a chance to listen to some music and dance around.

New songs, new goals met, new skills
October 16-19
10/16
Today Noah drank 8 oz of Pediasure, went potty and made 25 verbalizations. We sang Old MacDonald with tape. We read Night Rabbits and Sally Goes to the Farm. We did our tracing with lines, A, a, O, o, S, s, and M, m-- some on tracing cards and some on paper. We did a cutting and pasting activity. We colored to music. We worked on Treasures that are Red-- A game I made up where we find sparkly red things. I am going to use it for all the colors and eventually turn it into a sorting project.
I have been using our skill songs again and was trying to think of some new things to do. With Popcorn we could actually pop popcorn. Listen and move would be fun with Andy to improve imitation.
10/17
Mommy was on bedrest.
10/18
We did lots of music. Down on the Farm, with animals. Traced lines and letters A,M,S,and O. We did red treasures again. We did Old MacDonald and he said hen, duck, and pig on his own. He drank 1 oz. He did 24 verbalizations.
We met our February speech goal--- way ahead of schedule!
10/19
Noah was very interactive today. We played with puppets. We read Chicka Chicka 123. We did our tracing of lines and letters. We worked on a following direction worksheet. We also did a cutting and gluing activity. Noah wanted to read busy year, so I did. We did Old MacDonald and Jingle Bells with Bells.

The new library plan.
This fall, I have been getting stacks of books from the library, not only for Andy but for Noah too. Usually Noah gets in a story rut, so I have been getting him out of his rut. Which has been really fun. And he enjoys it too.
October 9-12
10/9
Note to self... think about doing a Dr. Seuss unit next after Mother Goose. I think Noah would really like that.
We started out the week a little under the weather. We were all feeling a little sick and a little tired. Noah started the morning with crying, but was able to cheer up. We did our tracing of lines and small and big, M,S, and O. We used the tracing cards. He is not needing quite as much guidance for tracing although we are still hand over hand. I do think we will be ready to move on from Mother Goose in a few weeks, although the material uses a lot of Mother Goose... so I am not sure how we would move on to something else.
We read Roller Coaster, She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain, Shiver Me Letters, and Charlie Needs a Cloak. We sang Pop Goes the Weasel, London Bridge, Bingo, Go in and Out the Window. We used our tactile letters while singing ______ says ________ song. He has been holding the pencil without the pencil grip. He needed to use the backpack today and his talking ws down a lot today.
10/10
Today we did school with Andy. Andy asked, and I thought it was a good idea. We did our reading lesson and ______ says _______ song. O,M,S,A. Noah said "s" several times as well as "M." We read Angelina's Halloween. We worked on spelling Noah with alphabet stamps. I taught Noah a modern version of "Kumbayah." He loved it. And we had to sing it over and over while he played the rhythm sticks. Also My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, and Old MacDonald with the school book, Pop, Goes the Weasel, Go Tell Aunt Rhody, The Bear Went Over the Mountain, and Kookaburra. We worked on counting 1-10 with disks and the bank as well as singing and chanting the numbers with clapping. He went potty and vebalized 58 times! We read Sally goes to the Beach to calm down once. We are halfway to meeting our speech goal for NEXT February!
Noah did his interaction goal for 10 minutes. We are aiming for 4/7 for two consecutive weeks.
10/11
We did school with both boys again today. He drank 1 oz. We sang Pop Goes the Weasel, Kumbayah, Lean on Me, and Old McDonald with an activity. Noah was making up a conversational song. And we read 2 Halloween books. We did a Things that are red hunt. We did our horizontal and vertical tracing. Today I was able to push Noah a little to clear up his language and he would do it for me. He went potty. I worked on the ABLLS assessment. It is going to take a while for me to finish it up. We worked on folding a paper and Andy and Noah did their interaction time. 2/2 days.
10/12
We had speech therapy and then we played the piano a little. We sang Old MacDonald. Noah drank 7 oz. of Pediasure!!! We read Night Rabbits and sang Kumbayah with rhythm sticks. We did our horizontal and vertical tracing. I continued adminstering the ABLLS. We touched the spoon to his lips with Pediasure one time. He went potty. He bumped his head and came to me saying, "Ohhhhhhh." He did 84 verbalizations. It was a good day.

Mother Goose Unit
October 2-7
October 2- Today we went to the Learning Post and got several new things. We bought a new copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and a board game to go with it. Andy got a bow and arrow ; we bought a few other things as well. When we got home, we played the caterpillar game (Andy, Noah, Grandma, and me).
October 3- Really into books today.
Sally Goes to the Beach
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The Big Sneeze
Then Noah and I played a game Loterie des Clowns (no language involved). We also did some nursery rhymes and Old MacDonald using the animal figures. He verbalized 35 times during our session. We worked on our letters: S,M,A. He said the sounds for M (1) and A(4) which was fantastic. Noah drank 4 oz. today.
October 4- Noah drank 3 oz of Pediasure while reading Sally. We worked on our tactile letters and sang the __________ says ______ song. M,S,A: Noah said M and A. S seems to be really hard for him. We worked on tracing horizontal lines and small verticals. He also wrote M,S, and A and traced Noah. He had 59 verbalizations and went potty 2 times during the morning.
October 5- This started out a really rough day. I haven't been feeling well, and their have been some behavior problems that have been wearing on me. But we were able to pull it together and get some school in. Today we did Hey Diddle, Diddle with a little drawing activity. I am trying to encourage Noah to draw more intentionally... even if it is by rote! He has been wanting to draw on his own outside of school time and his scribbles are taking some little writing marks. I remember when Andy's drawings did that at about 2. I know that drawing is something that will come in their own time, but I would really like to get more out of Noah. Speech, drawing, music, singing... some signs that he is interacting with his world. We did some tracing. He had a few tantrums and vomited so I had to bathe, change him, and clean up the workroom. We went on and did more school because he seemed to be really open to it.
We had a busy weekend. We went to Burlington, and went to a birthday party as well as going to the mall and playing lots at the park. The kids rode in the car really well. There really wasn't even one meltdown in the car from either of the kids... so that is a BIG improvement!!!
I have been looking over my plan I updated at the beginning of the summer. I want to journal about how we have done so far:
Noah’s Homeschool Program
Updated: June 20, 2006
1. Eating:
Goal 1: Noah will be able to eat the equivalent of one feeding a day for 14 consecutive days. REACHED!!
Goal 2: Noah will be able to eat the equivalent of two feedings a day for 14 consecutive days.
Goal 3: Noah will be able to eat the equivalent of three feedings a day for 14 consecutive days.
Goal 4: Noah will be able to take 10 bites of Pediasure with a spoon for 14 consecutive days.
Goal 5: Noah will accept another item of food for 10 bites from a spoon for 14 consecutive days.
Notes: Work towards the 16 ounces of Pediasure a day for 14 consecutive days. After this, begin the next goal. The next goal will be for Noah to take one taste a day… two tastes, three tastes, four tastes, five tastes, etc. of Pediasure by spoon once a day for three days in a row. After three days at each step, we will move to the next step. After we reach ten voluntary bites of Pediasure by spoon for three days in a row, we will move to the thickening step by taking two ounces of pediasure to a teaspoon of yogurt. This step may need to be modified once, the consistency is decided upon—we need to experiment before making a final goal.
Who is involved: Holly, Scott, Marie, Homestead, Caroline, Kim, Angela
2. Potty: Noah will urinate in toilet consistently 10 times per week for 4 weeks. Continue to aim for putting Noah on the potty once an hour, (focusing on using BMs and feeding to help us gauge exactly when we need to put him on). By July 31, we will have experimented with two days of wearing only underwear and pants (no diaper)
WE ARE CLOSE, BUT NOT THERE.
Who is involved: Holly, Scott, Marie, Homestead, Caroline
Talking: Continue working on existing speech goal. RECORD, RECORD, RECORD
Future Notes: Currently 8 times a day for four out of seven days for two consecutive weeks. Working towards 30 verbalizations at which time, a clicker will be used for verbalizations and only Unprompted Speech will be counted.
AGAIN, VERY CLOSE
Who is involved: Holly, Scott, Marie, Homestead, Caroline
3. Floortime: Run one probe a week of one half hour, testing how many circles of communication that we are closing.
Who is involved: Holly will run this once per calendar week, aiming for Thursday
Visual Performance: Because of frustration on Noah’s part, we will take a break from this area until the end of July.
4. Receptive Language: Noah will readily come or look when his name is called, 8 out of ten times for three consecutive days.
Who is involved: Holly
Imitation: Think about what the next goal will be in this area.
5. Vocal Imitation: Noah will readily be able to imitate almost any sound, word, sentence or song when asked. This goal will be considered met when Noah is given 30 opportunities within a four hour period three days in a row. Accurate and specific records must be kept.
Who is involved: Holly
6. Requests: Noah will be able to request with a prompt 10 or more items with item present for three consecutive days.
Who is involved: Holly
7. Labeling: Due to Noah’s skill level, this area will not be worked on until F2 is met.
8. Intraverbals:
Goal 1: Noah will be able to fill in the blanks for 10 different phrases, for three consecutive days.
Possible phrases:
Up and “Down”
Time to brush your “teeth
Read the “book”
I want a horsey “ride”
Dr. “Seuss”
A B “C”
1, 2 “3”
1,2,3,4 “5”
Let’s go on a “Walk”
Take a “Bath”
Clap your “Hands”

Goal 2: Noah will be able fill in the phrase for two animals… (example) The cow says “moo” etc.
Note: Possibly use “The Cow Says Moo” song.
Goal 3: Noah will be able to fill in What’s your name? “Noah” four times, for three consecutive days.
Who is involved: Holly, Scott, Marie
9. Spontaneous Vocalizations:
Observation 1: Run an hour probe of how many minutes per hour Noah is making spontaneous vocalizations.
Observation 2: Continue to write down all intelligible spontaneous vocalizations a day.
Intervention 1: Provide opportunities to watch Veggie Tales, Dr. Seuss, and listen to simple songs on CD that Noah may motivated to imitate.
Who is involved: Holly, Scott, Marie, Homestead, Caroline, Kim
10. Syntax and Grammar:
Observation 1: When recording Noah’s verbalizations, keep track of how many words at one time he says.
Observation 2: Keep track of the syntax (word order) of spontaneous verbalizations.
Who is involved: Holly will analyze the recorded information already gathered daily.
11. Play and Leisure:
Goal 1: Noah will be played with purposefully using toys for fifteen minutes a day four days a week. (Adult only)
Goal 2: Noah will mutually interact with Andy for 10 minutes a day, four days a week, for two consecutive weeks.
Who is involved: Scott, Holly, Marie, Andy
12. Social Interaction:
Goal 1: Using Andy’s play session and times with other children at church, park, company, neighbors, etc, we will begin to push the boundaries to work up to 30 minutes of close proximity with another child while behaving appropriately. Keep Records.
NO RECORDS, BUT NOAH IS ABLE TO PLAY WITH/NEAR KIDS FOR UP TO TWO HOURS!! I NEED TO UPDATE THIS GOAL.
Who is involved: Scott, Holly, and Andy

Who is involved: Holly
17. Writing:
Goal 1: Noah will be able to maintain his ability to make lines on paper when asked.
MAINTAINED
Goal 2: Noah will be able to make a circle on paper when asked.
FREQUENTLY
Goal 3: Noah will be able to color neatly within the large boundary of a circle.
Goal 4: Noah will be able to trace lines.
WORKING HARD ON THIS
Who is involved: Holly
18. Dressing: He will continue to work on dressing skills when getting dressed in the morning, while toileting, while getting ready for bed, and when at OT. The next goal area is to maintain the ability to pull up and down pants, take of and put on shirt when started, take off socks, and take off jacket. He should be working towards putting on a pullover shirt independently.
Who is involved: Scott, Holly, Marie, Homestead, Caroline, Angela
19. Grooming: Noah will work towards washing and drying hands independently.
GETTING REALLY GOOD AT THIS, I WOULDN'T SAY IT'S MASTERED THOUGH

Goal 3: Noah will be able to fold a piece of paper.
Who is involved: Holly
22. ABBLS Assessment: By July 31, Holly will run an entire ABLLS assessment on Noah and will use this to update new goals.
OOPS, I PLAN TO DO THIS -- HOPEFULLY THIS WEEK
23. Preliteracy and Pre-writing: Holly will do some research on Ball, Stick Bird and Handwriting Without Tears, in addition to looking at some other literacy/writing programs.
SO FAR HAVE BEEN USING TEACH YOUR CHILD TO READ IN 100 EASY LESSONS (MORE LIKE 1000-FOR US, BUT OH WELL!) I HAVE BEEN SUPPLEMENTING WITH TEXTBOOK BASED PROGRAMS AND WORKBOOKS AS WELL AS MY OWN MATERIALS... SO I COMPLETED THIS TASK AND CAN GO ON TO THE NEXT STEP.
Holly will continue to stay current with her homeschool journaling, and will have regular and thorough communication with all therapists and SCL workers. It is important that everyone attend meetings regularly and that everyone stays positive and consistent.
GOAL MET.

Literacy takes time and hard, hard work.
Sept. 25-30
What a fantastic week! Both boys have been working on pre-reading, pre-writing skills, singing songs, listening to stories, playing computer games, playing with the neighborhood kids, making art (together even). We had a really nice week.
Noah went potty 13 times !!!!! Andy is learning to use words to say how he feels, how to ask for help, and to explain things to us instead of angry outbursts.
I have been reading some homeschooling books. I would like to keep a bibliography for myself for future reference.
This year I have been using:
Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons
The Big Book of Home Learning
Slow and Steady, Get Me Ready
What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know.
The Well Trained Mind: A Guide to a Classical Education at Home
The Educated Child
More Charlotte Mason Education
The Ultimate Book of Homeschooing Ideas
Various Preschool Workbooks
I have been consulting Phonics Pathways
A set of Kindergarton prereading/reading textbooks and workbooks
A math set of textbooks and activities with manipulative cubes
Various children's books that I will posts as we use them:
So far we have used:
Today is Monday
The Big Sneeze
The Greedy Triangle
How Are You Peeling: Foods With Moods
I Spy: An Alphabet in Art
Pigs Will Be Pigs (this is a math book about money-- cute)
Books and CDs
Andy has listened to Part 1 of The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling
He is currently listening to Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
Noah is listening to Mary Engelbreits Mother Goose, 100 Best Loved Verses
The kids camped out in the back yard with Scott on Friday night and we went to the farmer's market on Saturday. We had a great time at church on Sunday... Noah sat through the whole thing including coffee hour! And then we went on a wonderful hayrack ride Sunday afternoon. All in all a full week. |

Week 1, and 2-- Back to School!
Sept. 11-15 was a fun week. Noah and Andy were excited to start school. Andy has started Teach Your child to Read in 100 easy lessons. I have done a few lessons with Noah too. Noah has been working on making s's and m's and he has been singing lots of songs... really saying the words too. He has consistently been going potty at least one time a day which is fantastic. We hardly even have to work at getting that one time a day any more. I think it is time to make the transition to Pullups and then we will go from there. I think that with his braces, I will just put one pullup on him a day and then see how long we can keep him dry and then put a diaper on him after that so we don't have to take off his braces and redress him. No sense in making this an aversive experience.
Sept. 18-22 This was Noah's birthday week so we celebrated all week. We went to a comic book coffee shop, the science center, a fun drive where we went to see an underground railroad house, and lots and lots of playing outside. We also had a wonderful family birthday party that was very warm and joyous. Noah received an accordian, boomwhackers, a lollipop drum, a book, a fleece sweatshirt, bells and a kabasa and a nose flute (interesting :0) and a really cool BIKE! He has been tearing up the parking lot at Plymouth Congregational. It has made our fall a delight.
Andy has been working on his reading, but it is coming very hard for him because he literally cannot sit still. I don't know if it is age, gender or and attention issue. He enjoys playing UNO right now and counting as well as lots of dramatic play and video games on the Cartoon Network site. |

Great Summer!
Well, this summer was really fun. We went to Colorado again. This time for a wedding. I had just found out that I was pregnant, and was feeling really sick. For the rest of the summer, I basically found myself just trying not to get sick and to keep up with the boys. Noah really missed working with me, and I hope not to take such a big summer vacation in the future. One idea I found for organizing the school year is to do it in trimesters. You work for three months on and take a month off. I might begin to do this. I really like the idea. Although instead of taking the month completely off, I think it would be fun to just modify school so that we do more trips and more fun things. Both of the kids really benefit from the one on one attention that "school" offers, so I am sure that they would not want to give it up completely for an entire month.
Anyway, Andy had a fun birthday. He had a pirate party and invited the neighborhood kids. We had treasure and everything! |

Teamwork makes it happen.
June 12- June 28th-- Throughout the month of June, Noah has been working on his speech goal of 8 verbalizations a day and one feeding a day by mouth. We haved been to an Iowa Cubs baseball game, the Greek food fair, church, the library, working in the community garden, the park, the science center, coffee shops for breakfast, the store numerous times, the mall, on walks in the neighborhood and in other neighborhoods, swimming three times, and boy has it been fun. Andy has enjoyed all the fun activity too. Ahhhh summer. Although we all have sore throats and runny noses now!!!! grr.... The kids have been playing with other children in the neighborhood lately. Noah has almost reached his BIG GOAL of one feeding a day by mouth for 14 days. He missed day 13 because of his cold, so we will have two make up days for it... I am very strict. What can I say?
Today, he enjoyed licking a popsicle and I was able to get him to allow a spoon with Pediasure on it up to his lips. I also chilled the spoon sometimes to see how he would respond.
Andy has been a bundle of energy. He has been having fun with the neighborhood kids and playing board games with me. He may be signing up for soccer again this fall. We need to see if it works out. Also, Noah may be signed up for a dance group for people with disabilities. I think they would both like those activities.

Come hell or highwater- we will press on.
Monday, May 22
Noah drank 14.5 oz!
Tuesday, May 23
Noah drank 10 oz. and did a ton of talking. He was getting really fussy, and so we sprayed him with a ton of water to cheer him up which worked!
Wednesday, May 24
Today was our car trip to Colorado. We had a really nice time together. The kids were great. We were actually able to work on eating and Noah ate 11 oz. of Pediasure.
Thursday, May 25
Noah took a few sips of Pediasure and licked some chips. Today we went to Robbie's graduation party, and the kids enjoyed playing a lot.
Friday, May 26
Today we went to Six Flags. The kids loved it. Noah's favorite part was the water part. He played in the water until he had chattering teeth!
Memorial Day Weekend
We drove from Denver up to Mt. Rushmore. The kids enjoyed all of the swimming that we did! We enjoyed the scenery, but I think that the kid might just enjoy activities like theme parks and swimming a little more than nature scenery and DRIVING!
Tuesday, May 30
Instead of taking a day to recover from vacation, we jumped right back into things. Noah was not interested in eating today and only had 1 oz!
Wednesday, May 31
I gave Noah the rest of his ABLLS assessment today.
Thursday, June 1
Today was an amazing day. He did all kinds of uprompted speech and enjoyed working so much that he even wanted to work at night and kept pulling us into his closet to work.
Friday, June 2
He drank 7.5 oz. today. He went BM!
Weekend
This weekend was the Greek foodfair, and I worked both days! When will I learn to slow down and get a grip! I really need to give myself time to work on getting organized and getting groceries and getting caught up on things. There is such a fine balance between not having enough activity and too much.
Monday, June 5
Lots of talking and 12.5 oz. of Pediasure.
Tuesday, June 6
4.5 oz. Pediasure. And lots of talking.
Wednesday, June 7
Lots of talking and 13.5 oz. of Pediasure.
Thursday, June 8
Today we went to the park and ST so Noah didn't have a traditional school day.
Weekend
We went to a new church for fun (Lutheran Church of Hope). Oddly, enough Noah went potty two times there! After that we went to Jordan Creek Mall and ate lunch. Noah tasted chocolate milk several times. Andy enjoyed running around the little lake there. Oh and Scott and I celebrated our 11 year anniversary!
Monday, June 12
Today Noah drank 11.5 oz. of Pediasure! Noah and Andy and I played "Walt Disney World" and that was so fun. We played Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, The Pirates of the Caribbean, It's a Small World, and a dinosaur ride. The kids played so well together. We also got breakfast at La Mie! Yum!

Worm stinks and Pediasure cocktails.
Monday, May 15
Today Kim came instead of on Tuesday. Noah did the best he's ever done with drinking Pediasure. He drank an entire 12 ounces! It took him all morning, but he did it. He really enjoyed his Mr. Noah bathroom book.
A funny thing that Andy says now is "worm stinks." It is sort of a funny word that just makes him laugh and laugh. It is so cute to see the kind of jokes he comes up with.
Tuesday, May 16
Noah drank 8 oz. today! He is working on his July 1 goal of 8 verbalizations a day. He enjoyed singing "It's a Small World" today. Tonight Caroline and Marie came for date night. It was fun because Andy had soccer and then Scott and I went out to dinner at the Latin King and a movie.
In Noah's program, his improvement in toileting, drinking Pediasure and talking are all improving, but I would really like to somehow transfer the data from his ABLLS assessment into some great goals that I can really work on with him. I would like to get some better academic goals in place.
Wednesday, May 17
Great talking today. He was a little trooper. He started out upset and grew much happier.
Andy has been using his imagination so much. He is always some imaginary creature playing some superhero game or something. He has been very sweet and cuddly lately. He really enjoys pretending to be a cat and meows often. I asked him the name of his cat Meow's mother and he said "Kangaroo cat." The dad was "Kangaroo dad" I think and the brother was "Kangaroo Noah." He sometimes just cracks me up where I can hardly breathe I am laughing so hard. He has such amazing passions and personality.
Thursday, May 18
He worked hard today. This week has been a whirlwind of appts. and meetings and it is just going to get worse until it gets better. We felt like we needed a vacation or something different so tonight we ate out at the Drake Diner with Allen and Deanna. I brought some toys for the boys and they lasted through the entire meal... a sit down restaurant.... gasp. It was great! Then we went to Target and window shopped for about a half an hour, just looking at toys and games, and all kinds of things. It was so fun to just spend time with the boys on relaxing stuff.
Friday, May 19
Noah had his yearly case management meeting. It was fun to see how much he has grown this year. We picked up his new orthotics today and got an evaluation for PT. She will probably see him in a few months. Noah LICKED pizza and put it in his mouth!!!!! We were all flabbergasted! We simply could not believe it. The child is amazing. Andy was so excited for Noah too. It was a very nice moment. Oh and he went POOPY on the POTTY! Will wonders never cease? |

Sweet, Blissful, Home.
Tuesday, May 9
Noah did NOT want to stop stimming today, and that was hard to conquer. His therapy was a little different today, so we worked before Kim came and then after. He met his speech goal for the day and drank 8.5 ounces of pediasure... he is improving in these areas sooooo much. Noah had respite tonight and had a fun time with Caroline.
Andy had his first soccer game, and he was so cute and hyper. He doesn't really know the first thing about soccer, so he was really confused. I guess that is going to come eventually.
Wednesday, May 10
Noah enjoyed singing "Happy Birthday" and "It's a Small World." He drank 4.5 ounces of Pediasure.
Thursday, May 11
Met the speech goal today. I am not sure how much Pediasure he drank because I lost count after 1 ounce. He had therapy basically all day, which was a good thing because I haven't been feeling very good.
Friday, May 12
He drank 2.5 ounces of Pediasure and met his 6 verbalization speech goal. He went on a long walk with Andy, Scott, Deanna, and Tara at Racoon River Park.
Saturday, May 13
We went to Iowa City for my Josh's graduation party. The kids did pretty good. Andy played games and Noah did a lot of roaming, but still they acted pretty appropriately so that is good. We stopped at the outlet and we all went shopping, it started disastrously and ended with smiles.
Sunday, May 14 Mother's Day
The boys gave me pictures that they had made, and Andy made me a little sack full of Playdough snakes. It was a happy day at church and then at Scott's parents' house.
Noah had a baseball game today and really enjoyed it, although it was really cold!

Love, Peace, Simplicity, Consistency
Thursday, April 27
Today Noah had therapy all day, which was really nice for me, but I did miss working with him. It is really nice because I get to work on feeding, planning, housework, or playing with Andy. I get a lot done on Thursdays. Today he drank 4.5 oz of Pediasure and 2 oz of juice. We are on our way to drinking one entire feeding by mouth per day. We kept missing his potty times today. We will just have to work harder tomorrow. I made a little potty story and a new potty chart to try. We'll see if that helps.
Weekend
The weekend was good but not long enough!
Monday, May 1--- May Day!
Today, Noah did not want to get out of bed. I didn't either for that matter. He didn't want to get out of the car when we came back from dropping Scott off. So we sat in the car awhile listening to all the sounds outside. He wanted to stim, stim, stim today. BUT he ended up making 28 verbalizations today, one was even UNPROMPTED. He was getting really upset early on, and I had to stop, lay him down and give him deep pressure. Eventually, he was able to calm down. I was really proud of how we can push throught these hard times now, to end up getting some work done. I think it is just fantastic, how he is learning to get through his grumpy times. So I decided to take a floortime baseline on circles of communication. I gave him a half an hour and I counted 71 circles of communication that we closed. So that was unexpected and fantastic! I would like to keep track of that at least once a week. I was going to have Caroline do it, but I may keep track of it myself, since it fits in rather well into situation where nothing else is really working. He was drinking well and ended up drinking 1 oz of Pediasure and 1-2 oz. juice. He enjoyed the gears, whistle, and clicker for reinforcers today. He went potty two times.
Tuesday, May 2
He was fussy then happy today for Kim in speech. They played the drums to the Lion King soundtrack. Today he made 31 verbalizations-- 4 of which were UNPROMPTED. In the afternoon, I read Wocket to him, and he finished probably 20 sentences. It was amazing. He went potty 3 times today. He is still loving the lip whistle a lot.
Andy had soccer today. He absolutely loves it. It is really fun for him to have his own activity to go to, and new skills to learn.
Wednesday, May 3
Today we started off with lots of reading and talking. He played Flight Simulator for awhile. He was really mad and wouldn't come upstairs, but of course loved hugging and tickling. We did art for awhile and he really seemed to enjoy coloring, gluing, and painting with the water colors. He and Andy painted next to each other for awhile, and later in the day, Noah would come and sit at the kitchen counter again to make more art projects. The boys art is getting soooo cute. I hung it up all over the walls in the family room. Once, when I asked Noah if he wanted to color, he said, "ESSSS." I am pretty sure that was a yes.
Thursday, May 4
Not sure what happened today, except that I was exhausted and needing to sleep allllllll dayyyyyy long. Andy and I went out for breakfast at Zanzibar's, which was really cute. We read books and the comics and had drinks and bagels.
Friday, May 5--- Cinco de Mayo!!
Today Noah had a PT evaluation and was casted for new orthotics. We should get them in two weeks. Liz is interested in getting him on the PT roster again. There is a waiting list, so it should take a couple of months. In the evening, we went to the Cinco de Mayo celebration at Valley Junction and the kids really enjoyed it. Andy loved the caboose they have there and Noah loved the music. He had the biggest smile on his face and kept dancing. It was really fun.
Saturday and Sunday--
fun, relaxing... it is about time we had a weekend like this. We needed it sooooo badly. On Sunday, we all went to church and afterwards went to Allen and Deanna's. Noah had Little League and we picked up his hat and jersey. He got to hit the ball off the tee and run around the bases. It was really fun. I think that is going to be a highlight of the week for all of us!
