Hollylooyah: A Homeschooling Adventure

• Oct. 26, 2006 - A busy, interactive week

October 23-26

10/23

Noah said "Good Morning" to me in response to me saying it first.  He was very verbal and talkative.  He made 50 verbalizations.  We did our tracing lines and A.  We sang Old Mac Donald and Noah did a good job of pointing to the pictures.  He repeated "moo" for the cow says "moo" with a model.  He drank less than 2 ounces.  We did a cutting and gluing exercise.  He said "10" after I counted to 9.  I would really like to master tracing lines.  I don't want to bore or frustrate him, but I really want to master out of at least horizontal lines.

We read "Sing a Song of People" to the tune of Sing a Song of Sixpence.  We read some fall poems which he loved.  He liked blow like the leaves in the wind.  He went potty and we sang John Jacob and Twinkle, Twinkle.  I sang it softly and slowly and he sang the entire song with me.  He drank 7 oz. with Tara too!

10/24

7 oz. Pediasure, went potty.

We worked on Red and Blue treasures.  He didn't seem to get it.  We worked on our tracing letters (A,a) and lines.  We sang Old MacDonald and Sing a Song of People.  We did our fall trees and blowing.  He blew his nose and wiped.  He worked on the shaped pegboard and needed quite a bit of help.  He was really into My Blue Boat.  41 verbalizations.

10/25

We started with My Blue Boat.  He drank 7 ounces.  We did our fall poems, Sing a Song of People, Old MacDonald.  We worked on lacing, ziplock bag with book, tracing lines, painting, cutting, gluing.  We did our skill songs and he was really happy.  We did Red and Blue Treasure.  He wiped his mouth and nose.

He played with the neighborhood kids and let them read to him, play parachute and swing while he joined in.  36 verblizations.

10/26

50 verbalizations today.  Noah got addicted to stimming on bells today.  We did coloring, cutting, and pasting.  He refused to go potty or to drink any Pediasure.  It was very frustrating although I did get a lot of words out of him.  He dumped about 7 oz. of Pediasure out.  Have I been too pushy?  We sang Jingle Bells and Pop Goes the Weasel.  He became angry when I wanted to sing Bingo and bit himself.  Very frustrating!  He was happy after he had a chance to listen to some music and dance around.

About Me

This is a journal of one families adventure into the crazy, mixed up, but amazing LIFE of homeschooling. You can see the fun, the difficulties, the personal story of a family homeschooling two wonderful boys-- one autistic six year old and one high energy preschooler. We've been to school and now we are returning home to see how we fare.
