One of our favorite "science projects" is a very simple and alot of fun recipe for Make-n-Bakes. All four of my kids, K-5th, love to experiment with making their own dough, adding water, then flour, then salt, then water, then oil, then flour....anyway they want to do it. We add color to the water, or we adds drops directly into the dough. Shape...create....and bake.
Here's the recipe:
1 c. salt
1/2 c. water
2 Tbs. vegetable oil
2 c. flour
food coloring if desired
After kneading (for a looonnnnggg time) and getting the dough JUST the way they want it, they can play with it like play dough for a while OR make a decoration, paper weight, or magnet. Bake it at 250 degrees, until it sets (approx. 30 minutes..sometimes longer depending on the thickness). After it cools, they can paint them if desired or leave them just the way they are.
Our latest Make-n-Bake project was on Monday. As soon as we get our pictures in, you'll get to see our wonderful creations!
