Saturday, July 23, 2005 - WOOHOO - New site design!

Posted in Blogging Tidbits

Check it out!  You wouldn't believe the work going on behind the scenes to get this new site design launched.  I've been watching from the sidelines as the work has progressed, anticipating the time when it would go 'live' - and here we are!  Doesn't it look slick?  And since I'm an insomniac this morning, it looks like I get to be the first to comment on it!

I hope everybody likes it!

Me, I've got some templates to fix.  I notice the Flower Power template has 'issues' now.  It seems to only be that template, so I'll work on getting that taken care of and will load an updated template to the gallery when I figure out what's causing the problems. So if you are using that template, hold on and I'll try to get a solution as fast as I can. I have a bad feeling that I may be rebuilding that one from the ground up.  Eek.

Alrighty, then!  I'm going back to bed.  I have work to do later and sleep would most likely be a good plan before then.

Wednesday, June 15, 2005 - Testing out the trackback feature

Posted in Blogging Tidbits

So I came up with this idea to do some trackbacks with Gena as a training exercise.  And what does she do?  She goes and makes a 'real' post for me to trackback, so I look like a weirdo rambling about trackbacks when this post shows up on the front page. Not only that, she makes it an entry about food - and something she knows I won't even eat, so would normally just ignore.  But now I'm forced to comment on it for the sake of the trackback training.  Thanks a lot, Gena!  :-)  But if anybody would like to tag along with us to see how they work, feel free to click here to see Gena's original message and then see how the beginning of *this* trackback message shows up both under her post on her blog (below the comments) as well as in full on my blog as a normal post.  Nifty, huh?

So Gena...now it's your turn!

Anybody else who wants to test this out, feel free to join us by doing a trackback on this message or the one on Gena's blog.  To do so, right click on the 'Trackback URL" and copy the link under the message you want to respond to.  Then go into your own blog area and write a post about it, like you normally write entries.  Just make sure you paste that link you copied (ctrl-v) into the "Trackback URL" area under the text entry area.  Then when you click on "Add New Entry", it'll show up on your own blog and in the trackback area of the entry you are doing the trackback on.  Remember you can edit and delete posts as needed, so if it doesn't work the first time...give it another shot!  Practice makes perfect.  :-)

Also, as a side note, most templates are not currently supporting the trackback feature.  Although you can do a trackback on any post you see that has a trackback listed for it, you can not allow people to do trackbacks on your posts until you have done a couple of things.  One is go into your blog manager area and find the Trackback Settings on the left.  Click on that and turn on the trackback feature.  Then...you need a template that supports it.  So far that only includes the handful of new templates we have available - but many more will be added!  All new templates should have this feature on them.  Right now the ones that support trackback are Purple Flower, Tractor, Dragonfly and Victorian.  If you are VERY comfortable with altering your template, you can add this feature on your own.

I foresee there being some forum support/training on this feature if people seem to be interested.

Jodi

Addendum:  Trackback questions can be asked here on the forum.
Also, more trackback capable templates have become available.  Here is a complete listing as of June 16, 2005:
Purple Flower
Tractor
Dragonfly
Victorian
Songbook
Chocolate
