I love new stuff. Here are a few new things I found this past week:
Spunky has helped put homeschooling on Wikipedia. Thanks to her, there is now a section where you can list your blog for people interested in homeschooling. Go on, try it!

There's a homeschool dad who recently started blogging on HSB: Check him out here, at Homeschool Bible Studies. He has written about an incredibly sad story involving a 7 year old boy who was mercilessly beaten at his school because his father spoke out against homosexuality, and dared to ask the school not to indoctrinate his child.
This is why we homeschool.

I also met a veteran homeschooler/new blogger mama who has graduated one child, and has two more to go. You can read her here: HomeSweetSchool. Stop by and say "Welcome!"

I have done a little investigating on the Amazon.com grocery thing. There are not as many products available as I would have liked. It is not a true grocery store. For instance, if you search for canned fruit, the only thing you'll come up with is pineapple. What's up with that? Where are the peaches, the pears, the fruit cocktail?? They do have a lot of organic products, though.
The next thing is, you have to buy in bulk, so keep that in mind.
I have found one deal that is great, if you drink a lot of tea like we do. When I make a gallon, it lasts about 2 days, so we go through quite a bit. They have a $10 instant discount on all Lipton tea products when you spend $29 or more, so here's the plan: keep your order as close to $35 as you can get it, so when the discount is applied, you still qualify for free shipping, and you're getting about 30% off. That's not bad.
Hit this link and you'll see the Lipton ad on the right side:
I just found out my dad has Diabetes, and I know I am at high risk for developing it as well, because I had Gestational Diabetes, so I'm interested in the natural sweeteners they have. I need to get all the sugar out of my life, and I'm not too keen on replacing it with chemicals. There is one I have tried before, but haven't been able to find in our small town, so I am definitely going to get it on Amazon. It's called Stevia. If you haven't heard of it, it is completely natural. It's not made in a laboratory, and it's so "natural", the FDA won't allow the producers to call it an artificial sweetener. They have to call it a nutritional supplement. It's completely plant based, it adds fiber to your diet, and provides no carbohydrates or blood sugar spikes. They sell both liquid and powder forms.
Another natural sweetener I saw is Agave Nectar. I have never heard of this stuff. I wonder if it tastes like sweet tequila, lol. They have many varieties, so I'm stumped as to whether to try it or not, and which one. That's one bad thing about buying in bulk, if you don't like something, you have wasted a chunk of change.
If anyone has heard of this stuff, let me know, I'd love to hear about it.

Saturday, June 24, 2006 - Stevia is not my friend
I hope that I am an exception, but the Stevia sweetener causes me sudden and severe abdominal distress. It is not pleasant at all.
Obviously, this must not be a typical reaction, else they wouldn't still be marketing it... or would they? Nah... it's probably just me.
