Good Morning,

We've been back under rainy skies for the past few days, and looks to continue for a few more.  We've felt the change of Autumn and indeed Summer is over here in Yakutat.  Now it'll just get cooler and windier through the transition of Summer to Winter.

Bob arrived home yesterday morning from the Italio Guide Camp and it's so good to have him at the Shop again, even though way too briefly in my oppinion.

Mark, our friend and business partner arrives in on the morning jet and plans to help in the Shop through the 14th.  Bob will head back tomorrow morning to the Camp until around the 24th.

Mum and Dad have been indispensible with the kids.  Mum's been covering the "essentials" in school for Tanis, and Dad has been awesome for one-on-one time with Tanis building some long awaited models (The Arizona).  I'll have a picture soon.  They visit me in the Shop in the afternoon and when traffic is filling the store they know it's time to head for home.

I can't imagine what I'd do without them here.  The traffic is increasing at the Fly Shop, such neat people coming and going.  The fish have hit the Tsiu River (located between Cordova and Yakutat) which usually tells what's heading our way down the coast.  We are seeing fish moving into our local river (The Situk) still more Pinks (Humpies) then Coho (Silvers) but the parent year (the run 4-5 years ago) was a good one so it's shaping up to be a blessings.

The traffic in the Shop should continue to build and peak the 3rd-4th week of September.  So we continue to monitor inventory and final decision are being made to order whats needed to finish up the season.  Being our first year it's still a learning process, either we've planned it well, we'll be lacking inventory or left with a bit much.  Either way, we a very please so far this season.

Well, it's time to focus on our ILP (Independent Learning Plan) for our Home Schooling.  Due September 19, but with Bob here today I'd better do it while I have the coverage...

Just another busy day, but a blessed one

Hello from the Fly Shop,

It's going to be a very busy September for us here.  Just a quick catch up and sorry, no photo's this time :(

Mum and Dad arrived in from Dillon, MT to help with the kids while I'm working the Fly Shop.  They came in on the evening jet Wednesday night and oh the excitement from the kids who have been counting the day for oh 3 MONTHS!!!  We are all still getting into a routine but it's so very good to have them here with us.

Bob headed to the Italio guide camp Thursday at 1 p.m. so he'll be down there until mid October with only a few trips back into town.  I'll go down and guide with him September 30-October 11.  Then it'll be back to town to plan our Winter season :)

I'm looking forward to one of my partners in Fly Shop crime, who's arrival is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2nd - YEAH MARK! -  Mark will be working the Shop with my until September 14th.  Then I'll be ALONE until the 26th when another partner in crime, Greg, arrives September 26th :)

Mum and Dad will be with us until September 27th - THANK YOU MUM & DAD!!!  And then we have the delight of Bob's Mom coming up to help us finsh out the season with the kids :)  from September 27-October 12th.

So our house is very busy right now, and the loads are increasing at the airlines and the added traffic in town.  Traffic is also increasing as people hear about the Fly Shop too.

I'll do my best to keep blogging, but it'll depend on when I can slide a message in.

4:24 a.m. AKDT
I'm currently working a jail guard shift (0100-0800) and it's been quiet so far.  Received the call at 9:30 p.m. and I said I'd work it and headed off to bed with the alarm set.

We've just come out of 5 days without rain :)  And have just re-entered into our next storm system.. ah, welcome to Summer in SE Alaska.  Though all over the state this year we've heard how cool and wet it's been compared with other years.  We really haven't seen over 57-59 F (degrees) all Summer.

Bob returned from his Kayaking trip on Saturday, and with it brought some neat kites for the kids, from his clients Doug and Lisa.  They've been having an absolute ball with the kites and yes, one was stuck on the top of the Hanger.

Its been non-stop at the Fly shop and Hanger alligning things for Bob's departure for the Italio River Adventures Camp August 28.  We're preparing the Hanger for Winter Storage of vehicles and boats in the Hanger bay, then there's vendor orders to finish up the Fall/Autumn season.

We're looking forward to Mum and Dad's arrival, August 27th to assist with the kids while I'm full-time at the Fly shop while Bob's at Camp.  They'll be here for a full month ... YEAH!  We can't wait!  One of our business partners, Mark (Hi Mark!!!) will be joining me Sept 2-14 to work the Shop too :)

Let's see, what else is happening in our lives....
The kids have caught my cold.  Thankfully it's a quick one and they are rotating through it.  And yes, school continues to be accomplished.

This past weekend our 2nd Pastor Candidate family for the opening at Lakeside Chapel came in.. Dwayne and Gracie Rodin from AZ.  He was born and raised in Nome, AK.  They departed Monday evening and the board unanimously offered the position.  We heard back from them Wednesday morning and during Wednesday night Bible Study we took a member vote which was unaminous for them to come.  So they should be moving up in the next month :)

I'm thrilled that they'll be coming, they have definitely been hand picked by God for our church and our community.  He's very quiet but when preaching, talk about passion, hope and a vision.

I have some pictures to share of the kids Flying the kites, also Pastor Dwayne and Gracie .. but will have to add those in when I'm not of the Police Station's computer.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 .. Raining again...

6:22 a.m. AKDT

We are currently under another Summer storm.  The satellite dish outside the Fly Shop window is shaking and we are between blows that have wiped out the internet .. so much for uninterrupted buffering of the Olympics.

Yes I'm baracking for my Aussies, but how can you not admire and be thrilled by what Phelps is accomplishing so far.  So much talent.

Bob continues to be on my mind with this storm and them being on their Kayak trip at Hubbard Glacier.  Maybe this is the day they'll hunker down in their tents and take a good nap.  "Lord, guard and protect them."

It's been a good day of school with most things accompished by 10:30 a.m.  YEAH!  I'm glad they were willing to buckle down because I'm low of energy with this cold that has hit zapping my energy.

So it'll be a quick to bed for me after closing up the Shop at 8 p.m.  But first we'll cook up the rest of the corn that was sent from family in Washington :)  THANKS!!!  Can we say, "spoiled rotten?!!!"

5:45 p.m. AKDT

Greetings from Yakutat, AK!!!

The alarm went off this morning and it was a "Get-up and move it" kind of morning.  Bob headed out for the Fly shop to collect the needed frozen item for his Kayak trip, while I jumped in the shower and began breakfast for the kids.

Bob was by at 7:50 a.m. to collect me so I could drop him, Doug and Lisa (our clients) off at the boat harbor for their ride out to where the kayak's had been pre-placed Saturday (thank you, Garrett) for their 6 night/7 day adventure around Hubbard Glacier.  It was their hope to have the Kayaks dropped off on Hanky Island.  Alas, with the amount of ice it couldn't be taken that far in.  So they'll have the charter boat company drop them to where they kayaks are and then they'll paddle their way in to Hanky Island.

The kids and I enjoyed our morning and church and have spent the rest of the day at the Shop seeing a few visitors, but honestly wishing we were at the beach enjoy the sunshine that might only another day.

It's time to close out the shop and head for home.

Thursday, July 7th, 2008 ... Chocolate Day ...

9:39 AM, Aug. 7, 2008 .. 2 comments .. Link

We've been studying the Aztec Culture and decided to take a "fun" break and make some chocolate of our own while exploring the cacao trees and how it fit into their culture.  We've found some wonderful sources for research through the Hershey Chocolate Company (take their vertual tour) and also the Field Museum which give wonderful progressive detail on how it's processed start to finish.  And the kit came from Glee Gum if you're interested in doing some research yourselves :)We first put the cocao butter into the microwave and heated it about 5 minutes until it melted (ouch it was hot, watch your fingers).  Then we stirred in the Cocoa power and powdered Sugar.
Tanis is stirring to release the moisture from the chocolate while it's cooling to 94 degrees.  I couldn't find out why it has to be released so if you know, comment, ok.Eden as you can see is excited about the project.. I'm not quite sure what she was trying to express, maybe her enthusiasm.Tanis just snuck a "taste", Eden of course hasn't figured it out yet or her paws will be in the bowl too. It's time to pour the chocolate into the cups ready to set-up in the refrigerator. But first a "taste test" from Eden... "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!"  Eden is still enjoying the crown we made during our Middle Ages History Kit fun week a few weeks ago.and we'll close this photo gallery out with the cleaning out of the bowl... Yum, Yum!!!

Now why wasn't school fun?  The kids don't complain about these kind of days :)

Thursday, July 31, 2008 ... update ..

7:28 PM, Jul. 31, 2008 .. 2 comments .. Link

7:30  p.m. ADTI'm currently writing from our bedroom window.  You can see the Alaska State Ferry 'KENNICOTT" finishing up it's boarding/loading process before departing for it's next stop at Prince Rupert, (British Columbia, Canada) on it's way southbound.  It is also carrying dear friends who are moving back to California (The Felton's) who will be missed.. sniff, sniff.  The kids and I came back from the Fly Shop early so we could go and say goodbye.

It's been a little while since I last wrote, alas, that's life these days.. isn't it.  So it's time for another gallery of pictures.... enjoy...Thursday, July 24, 2008 I was set for a haircut with Lilly in town.  Well as I was heading out the door Eden begged for hers to be cut also.  For those of you who don't know, she's been begging for quite some time to have it as short as the boys.  I use a 3/8" on Bob and Tanis .. but I'm afraid my self image couldn't handle that on Eden too .. and yes, she wants it THAT short!Eden ended up taking my slot and I scheduled for the next afternoon.  Yep, she could get used to this kind of pampering...It's time for her hair to be combed out.  With such fine hair it always tangled so easily and yes morning and evening we had tears so no wonder she saw the ease the boys had with their hair.Lilly did a fabulous job combing it all out.. and no tears :)Lilly was really concervative and it took a bit to convince her that Eden was serious when she said she wanted it SHORT...Isn't she cute...Lilly blows it dry to see how it's going to sit.Nope, Eden wasn't done she signaled with her finger that she wanted it way up there so Lilly decided to layer it and see if she'd be satisfied with that...So Eden, what do you think?  Short enough? What a cuttie.. she's happy now and ready to head for home to show her dad and brother.Cute as a button.  Of course the first words out of Tanis' mouth was, "She looks like a boy!"

Monday, July 28, 2008 .. Finally a break in our never ending rainy weather and a partial day of sunshine.  What incentive to get the school work done and head to the beach at 3 p.m.  Before we departed we watched the Coast Guard assist the Park Service hauling a vehicle and trailer 50 miles south down the beach to Dry Bay.Here they are rigging it up.Believe me, it wasn't this quick to take off the ground.  They took a lot of time and care to be sure it was safe and secure.the line is tightening...Almost there...and.....and they're off....  woo hoo.... and away....

They ....goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...........................
These were taken from the Fly Shop rampside window.

Ok, onto the beach pictures.....The first thing we spotted as we arrived was a cruise ship on the horizon and Emma begins to sniff things out.We had the sun but it was still chilly with the breeze so layers were needed.  Eden turns around to give you a smile.and a pose :)and Tanis shares a smirk with you, boy he's getting so tall!this was the best I could do to get them to smile together, they were going mock-9 all over the beach getting their indoor energy out.  Boy we had fun!and a closing photo of Emma relaxing just before we departed to go back to the Fly shop to help out again.

9:45 PM, Jul. 20, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link

We finally came out from under weeks of rain to sunny blue skies for part of today.  We are now back under grey skies and what looks to be more drizzle settling in.  Ah, summer in SE Alaska...

Due to the amount of water, the rivers are flooded so the boys (Tanis and Bob) made the decision to stay in town this week instead of heading out to the Italio River Cabin and commercial fishing at the Akwe River.

So Tanis and Bob opened the Fly Shop this morning while Eden and I did the Church thing.  We headed in 45 minutes early for worship practice.  Then into Sunday School at 10:00 a.m.
I am finding God continues to move my fear in the area of standing up front with the worship team.. it's slow but it's coming.  I've seen where I've been nervously dreading it for the entire week before Sunday.  Now it's just Sunday morning.  I can only hope He'll work within me (hopefully soon) that I wont' be shaking during the songs.  I have a number of precious ladies in the audience praying their hearts out while I'm up there.  Thank you!  I love to worship my Lord, it's just such a leap of faith to be helping to lead.. UGH.

Last Monday (14th):  Here comes Bob and Tanis in from their Commercial Fishing opener.. Yeah, they're home!!!Can you tell how happy Eden is to have her Daddy home!!!

Here are some photo's to catch you up on what we've been up to...This past week Eden, Tanis Bob and I dabbled in some Fly Tying at the Shop as part of our homeschooling day.  We've been running shy on Sockeye "HOTS" so we were busy putting in our quota.  You can see expert Tanis giving me TOO MANY pointers :)  Mean while Eden was looking on in the background awaiting her turn.and here's Eden finishing up her fly ALL BY HERSELF with the head cement.  We experienced such a rush on flies that indeed Eden sold "TWO" of her flies and Tanis also... YEAH KIDS!
With their bit of profit then they had to figure out 10% for Tithing, 10% for Savings and the remaining 80% is to manage well.  A friend mentioned that we should be practicing for life also and taking an additional 20% out to cover taxes.  UGH!Tanis and Eden are "focused" at the task at hand.finally Eden's coat came off and Daddy joined the Fly Tying party...look at that "focus".  Eden is eyeing the scissors wanting to help her Daddy.Yep, looks like Tanis is camera happy again, a little blury but I'm tying flies too!!!

With the colder weather the past two weeks 'Cross Timber', who is renting the space above us (in the Hanger) don't have any heat up there so their helicopter pilots have been keeping warm with us at the Fly Shop.  The field Manager often brings his son Kamron in the afternoon who just turned 4.  When the kids are done with their schooling then they can come down and play.I found a wonderful set of books called "The Terrestria Chronicles" for ages 10 and up that I'm reading with Tanis.  The hero of the story is Prince Josiah, so Tanis has a new name right now, "Tanis-iah".  We've been having a blast reading through and dancing around the Fly Shop with our pretend swords raised high fighting the enemy.
Tanis has been so enthralled during our readings that he's made his breast plate of Righteousness, His sword of truth and his Helmet of Salvation.Last week while Kamron and his family were with us, the kids were playing out in the Hanger and then invited us to "watch" their Play of Robin Hood.  Well this is the first for all of them, and unfortunately (for us - WINK) Tanis being the "manager" of the play didn't know there was a time crunch for those of us manning the Shop.  It was delightful, but we did have to bring it to an early close. Here you have Prince John t-AXING the people and Maid Marian awaiting her entry into his court.  Kamron (sitting in the Chair) was 100% into his t-AXING role chopping away on the stick laying on his knee.  It was hysterical.  And he's wearing the jeweled crown the kids made a few weeks ago for their Middle Ages project. Here you have King Richard (Tanis) heading off for the Crusades and leaving Prince John in charge. You can see Eden trying to "help" Kamron in his tax duties.  Kamron is starting to lose interest and his cheeky side is coming out... (we ALL know THAT look)...Kamron couldn't hold it back any longer and decided to spill the Gold.  He began melting down and the play began crumbling .. thus the reason to head back into the Shop to cover :)  What a great place for a play though (The Hanger Bay).
We were so proud of the kids, this is their first play and they all did amazingly well.  Tanis was a good director/actor helping the kids with their parts.

Saturday:
I've been working with Grammy and Uncle Mark to bring in some Bean Bags for the kids... and they arrived Saturday on #61 :)Daddy (Bob) picked them up from Alaska Airlines airfreight and brought them in (bean bag filler, and covers).  The kids and I brought them upstairs to their classroom where they'll have their place.
considering we wer working with bean bag popcorn and kids, the filling of the bags did VERY well, only a little spill here and there that needed a clean up.Eden wanted to "nest" in her bag while cutting the plastic bags up in little pieces.  You can see Tanis testing his bag out HEAD FIRST!!!

Tanis wants to say, "Thank You!"As the buzz of excitement began to settle, I sent Eden downstairs for her computer time, while Tanis settled into his new Bean Bag Chair for his reading time and workbooks.  Grammy and Mark, these have been a HUGE HIT!!!  Thanks again.

During the afternoon we were blessed by Tim Gilpin's (Cross Timbers) Geologist Uncle - Jan Cannon - bringing the kids a copy of poems he'd written for his Grandkids.  We asked Jan to sign the book for us.  We will add these into our reading time.  What a precious gift.

7:35 p.m.  ADT

Good Evening,

Let's seen, a recap for the day.  The boys (Bob and Tanis) are out at the Italio Cabin commercial fishing.  The river opened this morning at 6 a.m. for it's 36 hours.

Eden, Emma (our Weimeraner) and I opened the Fly shop at 1:00 p.m. after a morning of church festivities.  We headed up to Church at 9:10 a.m. for worship practice, I wasn't sure since I was out last week with Eden and her tummy wog, who would be covering this week.  I arrived and it was Les with his guitar and no one else.  He said that the musicians would be there around 9:15a-9:20a and asked if I had some songs lined up.. um, nope.  He had 3 from the Hymnal and we pieced together the rest from the overhead files.  Hae Sook and her girls showed to play the piano, violin, drums, and sax.  And Dave come to play the base and Les with his guitar so we had a band :)

I was piecing the songs together for combinations on the overhead during the start of the Adult Bible study hour when someone came in for me to cover the 7-9 year olds since we had some visitors from Anchorage in.  So we had some fun without materials avaiable and talk and got to know each other that left about 20 minutes left in our hour so we played Bible Hangman.  What fun we had.

Service went smoothly, boy we had a packed house.  There wasn't a seat remaining, we even had to bring in more chairs and still others were standing.  The worship time was so awesome, with all those people you could hardly be shy over singing, they were so loud :)  We finished our 6th and last song with a slower tempo song and wow you could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in the room.  As we repeated the last verse to close I couldn't help but speak between the lines praising Jesus and calling the body to petition to our Mighty Lord.  It was powerful.

We raced from service to the store for some food to take with us to the Shop.  Made a quick stop to the house to collect things there.

The afternoon as I said was pretty slow, but good.

Hans dropped in with the store keys that had gone out with Bob in his coat pocket.. oops.  He brought in a load at 7 p.m. :)  Yeah, some fish are starting to come in.

I'll not proof ready, Eden's NEEDING to head for home.  Time to close out.

10:56 p.m.  ADT

So much for an update, where have the days gone.  And pictures?  Yep, they're still on the camera awaiting a download...  well, let's see what I can do to post some tonight on second thought....

Eden's come through her 72 hours stomach flu nicely and is back on track mixing it up with her brother.  Thankfully the rest of us were spared catching it.. phew.  Thank You LORD for answering my despirate prayer in the midst of it.

This past week I moved our classroom upstairs from the current Fly Shop teaching area at the Hangar.  We are now in a partially sheet rocked room which allows us some space, and some solitude to concentrate without distraction.  That way when they have break time and are downstairs they can socialized when friends arrive and our works still accomplished.Eden is working from her table/desk on a sticker project. We have some beautiful windows that allow adequate light and ample ability for Tanis to stair out the window and be distracted anyway :)some of our supplies awaiting some kind of shelving I hope. This is the back wall with a door that's padlocked from the outside.Eden shares her sticker book with you.  Hmmm, where's Tanis?

With the old tarpaper floors we made it a project with the empty boxes from merchandise to flatten them out and tape them together so we have a play and sit area when the tables/desks need a break. (Pictures were all taken before this project was finished).

There has been an amazing difference in concentration and speed in which the work is being accomplished by both kids, so I'd say this was the right decision.  Now to sort who is taught when, it's a bit a a jumble when working with Eden on her reading and hand writing and then Tanis needs my help in Math.  We'll get there.

I'm thinking some large bean bags will do wonders up there as we get the room in better shape, and some heat added :)

A day or two before the move we did take an afternoon to try our hand at knitting and honestly it was pretty therapeudic, it's been way too long for me.  But that song is still in there Mum, "In through the bunny hole, round the big tree, out of the bunny hole, away runs he (or back to me)".  I had the kids singing it as they worked and the visitors that did come in thought it was adorable and were VERY impressed :)Eden prefers the "motion" of the needles more then creating something.  So I cast on some stitches and work some rows and she's a happy camper to carry it around as shown and move the needles back and forth before they fall off and we start again.  You can see Tanis in the background using his as weapons.. of course while waiting his lesson.another picture of our Eden "moving" her needles :)Tanis got the hang of it and now we just need to work on the stitches not being quite so tight, he was a little frustrated with that.We found a very easy to follow book with simple instructions.  I think Tanis is casting on stitches here.well done Tanis!

Day before yesterday (Thursday) we received a goodie package in the mail.. Thanks Nana and Gwgw. Here's a sweater with an army tank on it for Tanis.  Orange is Tanis' favorite color.  Beautiful job on the sweater Nana!!!and Eden was spoiled with a 12" Giselle Doll and 12" Prince.  I've been working with our relatives in the lower 48 to try to get something other then Barbie in a "pair".  Seems Eden "gets" the boy/girl thing and is wanting to pair her dolls up to be married.  Well, we were some what missing any boys ... thanks for rescuing us:)

As far as an update on the Fly Shop, our traffic has picked up between phone calls, email and walk ins.  We are getting to meet some very nice folks.  Alas, we are still really behind in the number of fish entering the system/streams.  Whether it's the Bay, the Situk, the Dangerous, Akwe, or the Alsek there just aren't the fish coming in.  Most folks coming in the door are wanting river reports and asking, "how do I get them to bite?".

There was talk that they'd be closing all the rivers to commercial fishing this week, so we'd basically figured that Bob and Tanis would remain in town.  Word came yesterday at 10 a.m. that all rivers would be open for a 36 hour opener (Sunday 6a-Monday 6p).  So off Tanis and Bob headed to the Italio this afternoon at 3:30 p.m.  We'll be looking for their return probably Monday after the closure.
Mean while Eden and I will hold down the Shop until their return.

Blessings Abound,
Teen

Oh, if you're looking for a really good read for your kids (and adults too) check out 'The
Terrestrial Chronical' series by Ed Dunlop.  It's a set of 7 books and we are loving them as a read-a-loud.  I can't wait for Tanis to get home so we can continue in book 2!!!

7:37 p.m. ADT

Good Evening, well it's just before closing time at the Fly Shop so I thought I'd take a moment while it's quiet to get a quick entry in.

Eden, Emma (our Weimeraner) and I stayed home this morning so we wouldn't be infecting the Church kids.  I took the time to clean the downstairs AGAIN with a final wipe down after the past few days of cleaning as you can while catching the eruptions from Eden.  Thankfully she's on the mend and all food is staying down that has been introduced.  We continue to stay with the very bland and small amounts.

We rotated to the Fly Shop at 1 p.m. to open.  Mid afternoon brought in a number of visitors.  Eden did very well staying in her area over by the couch.

Bob and Tanis are at the Italio Cabin fishing on the Akwe.  The Helicopter Survey crew checked in here to warm up and said that the nets in the river had some fish in them, and Bob is the only one to wave.  I'm guessing there won't be an extention so we should see them tomorrow some time.

4:37 p.m. ADT

What a yucky bug that has been for poor Eden (and me being the clean-up crew :( ).  It was a good 18 hours of emptying out and she is finally beginning to keep crackers, water, and some grapes down.  Still the complaint of a sore tummy and needing to constantly on you so absolutely nothing else has been accomplished in two days.  What else can you do but enjoy the snuggle time, no sense stressing out that things aren't getting done!  (I'm a slow learner!).

Bob and Tanis flew out to the cabin this afternoon to commence the Commercial Fishing week which begins Sunday 6a and is schedule to close Monday at 6 p.m.  The word is that the fish are beginning to arrive so we can only hope that this will be a better week.  Though we go expecting the blessing of 2 fish and anything more is an abundance and I give it back to the LORD in praises and glory.

We did watch the 11:30 p.m. fireworks on the City dock in front of the house, but a very mellow night for our house being some what under quarantine :)  Those who had planned to enjoy the porch were phoned and were smart enough to keep their distance until it's solidly passed.  I'll be keeping her home from Church tomorrow morning to protect the nursery too... and that means the congregation has a weeks break from my singing and stage fright!  We'll be back at the Shop tomorrow from 1p-8p.

I've built Eden a quarantine tent on the sofa at the Fly shop that should keep her inside and others out.  She loves it, "her Fort" where she can watch movies or take cat naps while she recoups .. and it allows me some catch up time and the ability to welcome those who arrive through the door.

8:13 a.m. ADT

Well, we made it through the night though not much sleep.  Eden finally slept a solid 3 hours which means I think I did too from 1 a.m. until 4 a.m.  other then that it was trips to the laundry and the bathroom, poor thing.  And she's still miserable so the basin is close by and so am I.

Bob headed off to the Shop with Emma this morning so I have the kids at home seeing what the day shall bring.  So much for the 4th of July parade, I'll keep her home.  I'll see what I can do for Tanis to get him there.

So that's it thus far for the Miller's.  I could handle a nap today :)  Time to run, the moaning and groaning has started again....

8:25 p.m. ADT

The day started out quite normally and by mid afternoon Eden was home vomitting (excuse me) and the house was taking an unplanned cleaning.  Poor thing.  She's now bathed, in PJ's and has had a bit of a nap.  The boys should be rolling in pretty soon after closing shop at 8 p.m.

We've had Bob's cousin Owen, his wife Patti and her folks - Larry and Karen visiting this past week and they departed tonight on #66 which looks to be into Seattle 10 minutes early if they keep their course.  It's been good to see them, though with the Fly Shop and Commercial Fishing they were pretty much on their own with our Suburban.  But they did take advantage of the weather and enjoy kayaking, hiking, fishing, etc.

Here's a few pictures to catch you up on the past week....This is a picture from Saturday, June 28th.. on Friday Tim Gilpin of Cross Timber Company said that he'd have room on the helicopter they lease for their surveying this Summer so we kept it under wraps from Tanis knowing that last minute things could alter.

Well Saturday Bob, Seth, Tanis, Owen and Co. were schedule to travel to the Italio at 10:30 a.m.  Tim came in at 10:00 a.m. and gave us the "signal" so Bob called Tanis over to the counter at the Fly Shop... "Tanis, there isn't going to room in the plane for you to go to the Italio with me.... PAUSE....", oh if you could have seen Tanis' face trying to be strong and ALL of our hearts breaking watching what a RAT Bob was being to his son..... Bob continued, "But, Tim has room on the helicopter to take you to drop stakes with them, then you'll go up to Tanis Lake and Tanis River to see what you are named after :)  Then he'll bring you back down the Akwe River and over to the Cabin on the Italio!"  Well poor Tanis was so emotional from not thinking he was going to now going on the chopper, it was a little too much.  But he made it through and a smile did come, a VERY BIG SMILE!!!!here's a picture of Tim getting Tanis settled in the front seat of the helicopter.  They have an awesome pilot John up front.  We've gotten to know them a lot in the Shop while they await calls when things come up.Lift off from Yakutat Airport.... just outside the Hanger doors.and they are off..............these of course were taken during flight.  You can see Tim in the back thoroughly entertained by Tanis' giddiness :)  They saw moose, bear with cubs, wolf with pups, waterfalls, rivers.... Wow, oh, Wow!!!and here's Tanis 40 minutes later ready to land at the Italio...landing out front the Middle Italio Cabin, Bob's on hand waiting to capture the moment...I'm not sure if you can make out Tanis giving you the BIG THUMBS-UP on the right side..when did this kid get so darn big?  I see this picture and that gorgeous face and shake my head that he's 9 years old and in his element!  Are Helicopters in his future?  We'll soon find out...During their Saturday-Monday stay at the Middle Italio there was time between Commercial Fishing for Tanis to take in some fishing.  I see this picture and I think of Grandma Mable, she's known for wading just far enough to always go over her boots or waders :)  So this ones for you GG!Honestly, Tanis DID hook a King but it wasn't this one.  This BIG guy was caught in Bob's Gillnet and yep my kids LOVES fish!!!  His fish broke the line .. Owen, you can tell family that story :)and a side view :)Here's Patti, Owen's wife with her catch :)  Ain't he/she cute!Grammy, Tanis is THRILLED with his sand bags.  He's positioned his bunker/fox hole on the old closed landing strip out in front from the Cabin.  Seth who came to fish with Bob was a great help filling the sand bags and positioning them.

So the update from last weeks fishing was dismall, the run is late and rumor is that they are moving our way, so we can hope for next week, eh?  The plan is for the boys to head out Saturday again so we can only hope Eden is back on track by then, and I haven't caught her bug.

Bob had a "special" shirt designed for the Fly Shop and they arrived in Tuesday and are flying off the shelves.  Bob has me playing Vanna White "Vanity-T"..... the next picture will probably be readable..."IT IS BETTER TO
DWELL IN THE WILDERNESS
THEN WITH A CONTENTIOUS
AND AN ANGRY WOMAN"

Sunday, June 29, 2008 ... Screach.. Screach...

10:05 PM, Jun. 29, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link

10:06 p.m. ADT

I'm sitting on the couch looking out the French Doors at the ripples on the Bay from the Westerly that has been blowing most of the day.  The clouds this morning broke into an afternoon and now evening of glorious sunshine.  The sun is beginning to set from the reflection on the homes across the Bay.  It's a lovely evening to just sit and soak before I head off to bed.

Eden is settling in upstairs while Rusty (our cat) and Emma (our Weimeraner) are downstairs with me.  Eden's stollen Bob's side of the Bed for the second night since he and Tanis are down at the Italio River for the Commercial Fishing opener (6a Sunday-6p Monday, 36 hours).  So the "girls" are running the Fly Shop this weekend.

Eden and I had a nice sleep in this morning since the shop wouldn't be opened until 1p, after Church.  We got ready for Church and headed for 10 a.m. Sunday School.  During our Adult Sunday School session we discussed Moses and God's calling on his life and his fear and feeling of being the "wrong guy" for the job and telling God so.  Well as we exited our class one of the guys asked me if I'd lead worship this week, he's one of the musicians.  Um, UGH, WHAT?  It's an area that I yearn to be apart of but feel so inadequate, and don't want it to be in my own strength but God's if it's what He's calling me to...  After our class lesson and Moses, I couldn't exactly say, "NO!"  So the next question was, "What are we going to be singing?"... "Oh some Hymns and songs on the overheads".. "Um, ok.... "

Well you can imagine what happened after I said, "Yes".... my knees began to knock, my stomach went insane, and I began to hyperventilate and shake.  "LORD, HELP ME!"

I did know 5 of the 6 songs which helped and came to the mic sharing with them that after our Sunday School lesson I was challenged to step forward in obedience, which meant they (meaning the congregation) had to put up with me up there :)  We've all been challenge these past few months to step forward and fill some empty spaces since our Pastor has left, and our main worship lead just had a baby yesterday.  Congratulations Herb and Heidi on your new Baby Girl:  Jade Leah Holcomb.  Born Saturday at 4 a.m.  8lbs 7 oz. 22 inches long.  This is their third child.

I did infact make it through, and yes, I survived.  It's amazing that you can be singing through a song, yet at the same time be crying out to God to stop my voice from shaking, and give me the voice to sing, and, and, and.... PLEASE GOD!  What a dialog was going on while I was singing away song after song.  And I know it's to be about God and not me, but there were sure alot of "I's and me's and my's going on during that conversation.  UGH, how much I still need to know and learn.

And after the service, I was talking with Les and he invited me to join them Sunday mornings at 9a when they go over the music for the service.  After all, with practice it becomes that much easier.. right?  UGH!

Well, Eden and I departed service and came home for a quick lunch.  Then it was time to drop a letter off to be taken down to Bob on the next flight going his way.  Then to the Shop to open up and hang out until closing at 8p.  There were a number of visitors making some last minute purchases before they boarded the evening jet and before we knew it, it was time to head for home to make dinner and head to bed.

So that is our day in a nutshell.

Oh, that means I've been away from those promised pictures.. ugh.  The perfect ones to share are on Bob's computer and when I tried to download them to photobucket it locked up, so no pictures until Bob get back of Tanis walking out with Tim for his helicopter ride to the help drop stakes to the survey crew and then zip up to Tanis Lake and back down the Akwe river over to the Italio.  That's right, Tanis was invited to go with Tim their field manager to sit up front in the chopper.

Tanis took my camera and Bob took his camera on his flight out, so I don't have a camera in town to share picture of our days while the boys are gone.  They are due back in Monday night after the river closure.

Tim returned Saturday to tell about Tanis' picture taking (we'll see what that means :)) and said they saw waterfalls, bears, a wolf, some wolf pups and I think a Moose.  So LOTS of wildlife in a span of an hour.. wow, oh, wow... we'll see if this put a bug in Tanis to fly Helicopters in the future.  When he tells me he's NOT going to college, I say, it's either College or the Military!!!  That way it's being engrained that he'll be doing something after he finishes high school at home!

Saturday brought visitors and customers alike.  It made the day pass quickly.  We did stay on at the Shop until 9 p.m. because Garrett was building a rod for his brother who arrives on Tuesday and was putting on the finishing touches. Boy it's looking great.

Well, that catches you up on our weekend so far.

I know I promised you a photo gallery.  DELL's replacement Laptop arrived yesterday and I've been trying to transfer data over to the new computer.. AND fighting to reinstall my anti-virus.  Alas that means I'm behind on my promise...

Uncle Keith and Aunt San - Owen, Patty, Larry and Karen arrived in safe and sound.  Thanks for all the goodies :)

Tuesday, June 24, 2008 .. Cleaning Fairy anyone? ..

12:02 AM, Jun. 25, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link

Bob headed out to open the Fly Shop while the kids and I slept in and then hit the house cleaning it top to bottom for a few hours.  They were a delight when given a wet soapy rag and went to work on the wall on the stairs attempting to make a dent in the hand and finger prints that have been left as they go up and down, day after day....Cleaning Fairy Princess Eden exclaimed, "Look Mummy, a Rainbow!" as she made huge arches across the aqua colored paint.  Tanis was having a blast too scrubbing away.

Eden soon wanted a change and I handed her the spray bottle and she went to work on the French Doors.  Boy was it a very WET paper towel and door as she went for broke on the sqirting.  I was covering the dishes done, laundry changed out, and the floors swept before I shoo-ed them upstairs so I could play Cinderella and wipe down the lower level floors.  How I counted my blessing today that maybe there's hope in the near future to have some extra assistance around that house that's useful :)  I know you understand what I'm saying - they LOVE to help but you end up having to do double the work and clean up after they've been SOOOO helpful!  You have to love em for their enthusiasm.  I did take a moment to that the LORD for His blessings.

We left the house at 12:00 noon and made a stop at the Post Office, then the dump (no bears today) and then headed toward the airport.  It felt so good to know we were a bit more a head on the house front.  With the long days at the Shop it's hard to arrive home at 8:30 p.m. and think of beginning on it when I still need to feed the family and get the baths and bedtime routine in action.  Of course it's still light until 10 p.m. so you feel even though it's late that we still have a few hours to go until you look at the clock... UGH!

Most of the afternoon was spent doing school.  We did add in another 'Middle Ages' History Project and began prepping for our "Telling Time with a Candle".  So the kids grabbed Lesleigh and Kerry from next door to assist in the project.  They took out their necessary items from their supply kids and they were off painting their candle stick holders.the painting begins.Tanis focuses on gluing jewels on his candle stick holder.Lesleigh helps Eden with the glue and jewels while the candle is lit.  We had to burn the candles for 1 hour to bring them to the needed length for tomorrow continued project of telling time in the Middle Ages.. the saga continues!

Thank YOU Kerry and Lesleigh for all your help!

We arrived home at 8:20 p.m. and I went to task to prep French Toast for dinner for the gang.  The police department toned out an EMS call at 8:30 p.m. and no one responded.  So I called in and Bob and I both went on the call for a knee injury.  Both kids had a movie on so were very content and happy.  I did make a call to Danelle as our back up and Tanis knows that number.  ALL went fine.  It was good experience and nice to finally be able to be on a run with my husband :)

it's already after midnight and just downloaded a bunch of photo's from the past 3-4 days.  If the HughesNet is up to it's normal fast speed I'll post then during the daytime tomorrow.  Today it was crawling even slower then dial-up .. UGH.

Here's a departing picture for the night from Price Tanis and Princess Eden in their Middle Ages Crown they made on the 19th and finished on the 20th.can you tell the sun is REALLY BRIGHT and directly in their eyes?  Squint, Squint.

5:18 p.m. ADT

It's turned into a gorgeous warm day, well warm for Yakutat 58F day!!!  I received a call this morning with Bob wondering if he could stay an extra down at the Italio cabin.. Um, Sure!  From what we hear fishing is slow and there are a number of permits on the Akwe River.  So I imagine he's taking in the extra time to play catch up on the cabin or whatever else he's doing out there.

We've had a little traffic through the shop today, but it's been so disjointed that school has been a hit and miss.  Now that they weather is so inviting to be out in .. you bet the kids can go out to the Fort and play.

Call just came in as I'm typing.  Bob will be coming back to town due in around 8:20 p.m.  So yeah, Bob will be home tonight :) :) :)  I can't wait to hear all the news.  Makes me miss the Italio knowing he's taking it all in without us.  I can only hope he'll give me some wonderful word pictures.  Though I'll be honest, I'm thankful I didn't have to help get the boat around the beach to the Akwe to launch in the mouth with that sinky sand.  Ugh, I've been apart of too many of those memories.

6:54 p.m. ADT
I'm back again, we had a string of visitors through the shop some to buy and some to come and see the kids and I.

It's time to crack the whip now that dinner has been accomplished and get the rest of our school work done for the day.  Yes the sunshine has allowed some leaniency and it's now 6 p.m. and only accomplished the first session of school.

Must away.

No news from Bob at the Italio yet.  Commercial fishing opened today at 6 a.m. and closes tomorrow at 6 p.m.  I don't know what his absolute plans were, whether he's fish through the closure or if slow cut it short and putter around.  His thoughts when he left Saturday were that he'd be home Monday late afternoon or evening.

It's been a tough day for our Community, during Adult Bible Study the manager of the cannery came in and announced that one of our fishermen had passed away this morning.  The skiff flipped and only one made it to shore.  Being a small community it of course effects every body in their own way.  So we're lifting their family in prayer.  I can only trust in faith that God will bring this to good and His glory...

Usually I'd be away from the Shop being Sunday, but said to Bob that I'd have it closed for Church and would open the shop at 1 p.m. and close at our regular time, 8 p.m.  So that's where the kids and I are right now and only 15 minutes left until we head for home.

Saturday, June 21, 2008 .... Summer Solstice....

3:13 PM, Jun. 21, 2008 .. 1 comments .. Link

It's hard to believe that we are half way through Summer.  We've had such cool days that we seem to keep waiting for Summer to hit.  No matter what we'll appreciate whatever comes our way.  We're still averaging one beach day each week, so how can we complain.

Bob made a last minute decision to head to the Italio to prep for potential Commercial Fishing that opens tomorrow, Sunday at 6 a.m.  There was hope that Tanis might be joining him but it doesn't look like that will be happening.  So the kids and I are maning the Shop until his planned return Monday after the closure.  So far so good....
