Spring is upon us here in Yakutat and we are enjoying the migratory birds heading north, also the whales making their way by Cannon Beach and yes, I can't help but mention as a runner the pleasure of heading out doors for a 6 a.m. run and NOT having to wear cleats!  They've been retired to my running tote until next October or November.  But I neglected to mention that we did wake up to an inch of snow on the ground this morning ..... see Spring IS here!!!

We had a lovely stretch of sunshine that didn't end for two or so weeks (2nd and 3rd week of April).  We kept shaking our heads in unbelief but drank it in for all it was worth.  It was still in the 40F's so hardly time to head for the beach in a bathing suit or shorts!  This is picture of Cannon Beach, in the distance (which you can't see) there are whales all along the coastline spouting as they migrated north. Here you have Tanis and Eden stretched out on our picnic blanket enjoying the sunshine during a few hours away from the Fly Shop.  There was a pretty cool breeze blowing so we tucked ourselves up behind some beach longs and enjoyed the warmth we did receive from the rays of sun beating down.Eden enjoys some rope swinging time at Cannon Beach before we headed back to the Shop to be with Daddy.

Back at the Shop we pulled out the BBQ and had a nice Hamburger meal with our newpaper friend, Fred.  The pavement outside has been swept clean and ready for customer parking :)Eden assist cleaning the windows by huffing her breath on it and then wiping it with a paint brush.  I think I'll be making an extra pass over what she accomplishes though.Just beyond the Hanger there is a green-belt where the kids are building a play fort.  Here you have Tanis collecting Pussy Willow buds.  He's keeping very busy. And here's Eden showing you just how well XtraTuff boots go with Shorts and Snowy weather!

The Fly Shop continues to grow in popularity as the Steelhead Fisherman find us.  Our initial inventory which was just "enough" to make it seem a stocked Fly Shop has now been purchased and we had to do a mad rush order to pull in quantities that will sustain us.  We feel blessed to see Simms fleece, Waders, Wading Jackets, boots, Vests, Socks, Candy, UnderArmour base gear, and more go out the door to very happy customers.  Oh, and also may flies, and fly tying material.

I'll do my best to be better about updates.  I'm still attempting balance between my workouts, full days at the Shop, Bible Study, and Home Schooling.

Today while volunteering at the EMS booth at our Health Fair from 8a-10a, we were doing our part by checking blood pressure on those who were headed for blood screening.  While working with a dear sweet lady in town my lower back decided to kink and I am now walking around like a stooped over, very sore person.  I hobbled my way to Bible study at 10:30 a.m. toting the kids with me since Bob's at the Shop and Saturdays are a zoo there.  From there I'd hoped to crawl home, anti-inflamatory up and get horizontal for the rest of the day with ice packs and heat packs.  Alas, I stopped by the Post Office and there were 9 LARGE boxes for the Fly Shop.. I about cried when I saw them and dear wonderful Vickie  assisted loading my Suburban with them.  You know it's bad when I can't load something!

So off the kids and I headed to the Fly Shop to make the delivery.  We arrived to a crowed Shop with a few groups of Steelheaders milling around and yes buying too :)

It was 1:00 p.m. when we arrived so I figured I'd stay and take Tanis straight to the 2:00p Birthday Party for a friend at the Elementary Gym.  Eden wanted to stay with Daddy at the Fly Shop, so I dropped Tanis off and headed for home for more medication and to wait the hour out at home before picking Tanis up at 3 p.m.

I collected Tanis and was so happy to get back home knowing I was heading for horizontal.. then the phone rang and it was Bob ... turns out Eden found Tanis knife set and sliced her thumb open while he was trying to work with an group at the Shop from Italy with broken english.  So out the door I hobbled again and headed to collect her.

I arrived, she was fine but has a stingy finger.  She was of course so very proud to have EARNED a booboo bandaid finally.  But not excited about how much her finger hurt.

Tanis was scheduled for a 5 p.m. Cub Scout sleep-over.  Bob was dear enough to make a phone call to one of the parents to collect Tanis from the house so I wouldn't have to leave the house once I arrived back home.  So Tanis is away for his FIRST official sleep over that isn't family :)

Well, that catches you up on us!  I'm guessing I'll be a week off my workouts.  My training partner Joy and I have been averaging 8-10 miles (each scheduled day) on our running (Tue/Thur/Sat) combining tempo, sprints and a long run.  Then the Mon/Wed/Fri I've been continuing my FIRM workouts.  Funny, I can't imagine doing ANY of that right now.  This too shall pass and I will mend.

Blessings Abound,
Teen
