Self-Control
Posted in Encouragement - 2
I went over the following list about self-control with my kids. After that, I copied and pasted it into a word document, enlarged the font, gave it some color, printed it out and hung it on the refrigerator. (It came in my e-mail box today and I thought it was very good and to the point.)
Here are some working definitions for self control we all can benefit from.
Self Control is the ability to control myself so that Mom and Dad don't have to.
Self Control means to think before I act.
Self Control means that I limit the noises I make when others are around.
Self Control is the ability to use words to solve problems instead of grabbing, pushing, or hitting.
Self Control means that I focus on one thing until it gets done before I move on to the next.
For more on developing self control in children, take a look at the book, "Good and Angry: Exchanging Frustration for Character in You and Your Kids."

Simple and straightforward, I like this. I copied it for our own use, I hope you don't mind. Self-control is so important, so basic to being a decent human being (which is what I usually say in my self-control lectures!) Thanks!

Great tips. Have you read that book? It looks pretty good. I'll have to put it on my "wish list."

No, I haven't read this book. Actually, I don't really know anything about the book but I liked the quote about self-control and thought I better include the credits that were listed in that e-mail with it.

Good morning
I have read this book and it is definately worth it. I have passed it on to many of my friends who have also found it helpful.
I enjoyed your Self Control summary. I have these types of posters all over one wall in our familiy room. I call it our Remembering Wall - it is where we go if we need to remember the character that God calls us too. Bit like God telling his people to tie his commands at the front door (or something along those lines!).
I got your link from Raising Leaders Team and look forward to reading you some more and getting to know you.

I LOVE this list you've compiled on Self Control. I need to share it with my son... and it looks like I need this book!
How did I miss your post about not being a unit study mom?
I'm trying to get into the swing of things - but I'm too easily distracted.
So I love knowing that not all moms are unit studiers. :-)
