Questions for the Homeschooling Mom
Posted in Encouragement - 2
I saw these questions in an e-mail from The Imperfect Homeschooler recently and thought they were rather interesting. I hope it's okay to post them here on my blog. Feel free to leave a comment with your answers.
1) Which is your favorite subject to teach your children, and why?
2) Which is your least favorite subject to teach your children, and why?
3) Which subject (if any) do you fear the most, and why?
I look forward to your comments!

Faith Walk
Do you ever struggle with wondering how you are going to get it all done? How you can teach your child everything that you want him to know, especially when you're also busy trying to be a wife, take care of your house, and all of the other responsibilities that you have? It's an overwhelming thought!
But if you'll go back to God's word, He can ease those anxious feelings. Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." If you'll just start by focusing on what God wants you to get done each day, then He will add all the other things.
Homeschooling is a faith walk. It takes faith and commitment to stay the course when those around you are full of criticism or discouragement. Just take one step at a time. God will take care of the rest. Just stay the course.

Self-Control
Posted in Encouragement - 2
I went over the following list about self-control with my kids. After that, I copied and pasted it into a word document, enlarged the font, gave it some color, printed it out and hung it on the refrigerator. (It came in my e-mail box today and I thought it was very good and to the point.)
Here are some working definitions for self control we all can benefit from.
Self Control is the ability to control myself so that Mom and Dad don't have to.
Self Control means to think before I act.
Self Control means that I limit the noises I make when others are around.
Self Control is the ability to use words to solve problems instead of grabbing, pushing, or hitting.
Self Control means that I focus on one thing until it gets done before I move on to the next.
For more on developing self control in children, take a look at the book, "Good and Angry: Exchanging Frustration for Character in You and Your Kids."

Quote - Homeschooling
Posted in Encouragement - 2
I have posted this quote before but am posting it again, as it states so clearly something I have needed to be reminded of daily the past few weeks.
"Our homeschools should not look alike. God's plan for each family will dictate what the school looks like. We should be certain and settled about what we are doing, using the Bible as our guide. Our lifestyle should reflect God's will for our own particular family.
It is difficult to forget about what others are doing, and yet it is important that we do not conform to what we see around us. We must seek renewal from God so that we can see what His will is for us. It helps me to know why we are homeschooling and what our goals are when we are finished. It is okay if my school looks different from yours. God doesn't want us all to be the same. Seek His will and make that the conrnerstone of your curriculum."
