A book we enjoyed as a read-aloud a couple of years ago this time of year is Vinegar Boy by Alberta Hawse. "Abandoned by his parents and shunned by society, Vinegar Boy is certain he'll be adopted once Jesus removes the ugly birthmark that scars his cheek. But when he carries the drugged vinegar to a crucifixion, Vinegar Boy finds himself face to face with the only one who can heal his face. Is there still time for a miracle?" I highly recommend this book!

Yeah!!! October is here, we're off to a great start on our school year, I've tweaked things here and there (and I'm sure more of that will happen), and I'm back to blogging after taking a month-long break!
I would like to tell you about a good little book we have been reading from during our morning group reading time. It is called How God Stopped the Pirates and Other Devotional Stories, and we have enjoyed so many of the stories! They also have the stories marked with an S or L so you can find a short or long story depending on how much time you have. There are a few discussion questions after the story with answers in the back also. There are several books in this series. I noticed christianbook.com has them on sale for $5.99 right now. They have the entire set of 5 books on sale for $26.99 right now. Click here to see the set. This would make a great Christmas gift!
We are reading out of Created for Work: Practical Insights for Young Men by Bob Schultz this month. It has short, easy-to-read, interesting and insightful chapters with a Bible passage and a few questions at the end of each chapter. We are really enjoying it so far. This is by the same author who wrote Boyhood and Beyond (also a great book for devotionals if you have boys). Happy Reading!

I left a comment on another blog about this and decided to post it here. This is a great little book to have at the meal table. It is a great way to keep pleasant (and fun) conversation going with all ages. We have had this for at least five years and still pull it out every now and then. It's interesting to see how the same questions bring about different answers as the children get older. A great buy!

Mealtime Moments, a new Heritage Builders product from Focus on the Family, provides families with fun, interactive conversation starters to use around the table. Each one has a special biblical lesson! Kids will have fun getting involved with games, trivia questions, and theme nights, all based on spiritually sound ideas. Parents will have a framework for making mealtime into a fun, interactive teaching time!
