Work

Posted in Favorite Quotes

The natural thing to do is to work--to recognize that prosperity and happiness can be obtained only through honest effort. Human ills flow largely from attempting to escape from this natural course. I have no suggestion which goes beyond accepting in its fullest this principle of nature. I take it for granted that we must work. All that we have done comes as the result of a certain insistence that since we must work it is better to work intelligently and forehandedly; that the better we do our work the better off we shall be. All of which I conceive to be merely elemental common sense.

Check Your Attitude

Heard this on Christian talk radio today and wanted to remember it --

"Your day is only as good as your attitude."

"One reason we are so harried and hurried is that we make yesterday and tomorrow our business, when all that legitimately concerns us is today. If we really have too much to do, there are some items on the agenda which God did not put there.  Let us submit the list to Him and ask Him to indicate which items we must delete.  There is always time to do the will of God.  If we are too busy to do that, we are too busy."

Sin

Posted in Favorite Quotes

The Bible does not say that the wages of sin are calculated on a sliding scale based on the degree of sophistication of the sin.   Paul writes in Romans that the wages of sin is death.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness???

Posted in Favorite Quotes

I have actually met more than one person who thought the quote "Cleanliness is next to Godliness" is a direct quote from the Bible!  I really like this quote I came across by Erma Bombeck . . . just thought it was funny.

"Cleanliness is not next to Godliness.  It isn't even in the same neighborhood.  No one has ever gotten a religious exerience out of removing burned-on cheese from the grill of the toaster oven."

~Erma Bombeck~

Guess I better go clean house anyway.

Quote - On the topic of decluttering . . .

"If you haven't needed it, worn it, looked at it, or used it in a year (6 months if you really want to be ruthless) than GET RID OF IT!  Quit keeping them IN CASE... Jesus may come back before you use them, so bless someone else and give them away!"

Quote - Homeschooling

Posted in Favorite Quotes

Our homeschools should not look alike.  God's plan for each family will dictate what the school looks like.  We should be certain and settled about what we are doing, using the Bible as our guide.  Our lifestyle should reflect God's will for our own particular family.

It is difficult to forget about what others are doing, and yet it is important that we do not conform to what we see around us.  We must seek renewal from God so that we can see what His will is for us.  It helps me to know why we are homeschooling and what our goals are when we are finished.  It is okay if my school looks different from yours.  God doesn't want us all to be the same.  Seek His will and make that the conrnerstone of your curriculum.

Quote - Learning to Pray

Posted in Favorite Quotes

"It's not enough to ask God to bless us and bless the church and bless the missionaries.  We have to learn to pray against evil and against evil people!  Evil people actively obstruct us from following the true God or set themselves up as God to be worshipped.  This includes many political and religious leaders of our time."

~ Brother Andrew in God's Call
