The Star Song

Posted in Astronomy

This is sung to "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and was written by Pietro Calogero.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star, now I know just what you are:
Fusing sphere of plasma mass, wrapped in iridescent gas;
Twinkle, twinkle, little star, super-hot that's what you are.

(flinging arms outward)
Nebula of fading light, spread into the outer night.
Blast remains of grand events, distribute new elements.
Gossamer in majesty, monument to entropy.

(arms hooped overhead)
Whirl on, giant clouds of gas; may you reach a threshold mass.
Protostars and blobs and dots, form within your glowing knots;
Whirl on, giant clouds of gas; may you reach a threshold mass.

(head spinning, hands flicking open and closed)
Pulsate, pulsate, neutron star; stellar core now turned pulsar.
Spinning like a top in place; radiate a beam through space;
Pulsate, pulsate, neutron star; denser than the earth by far

Solar System Song

Posted in Astronomy

Here's a song to teach the rotation of the earth and the moon.

The Solar System in Motion

 The Earth turns around,
The Earth turns around.
Once a day, every day,
The Earth turns around.

The moon goes round the Earth,
The moon goes round the Earth.
Once a month, every month,
The moon goes round the Earth.

The Earth goes round the sun,
The Earth goes round the sun.
Once a year, every year,
The earth goes round the sun.

(sung to the tune of "The Farmer in the Dell")
