Make a Unit Study around a Bible verse or book of the Bible

Posted in Bible
1. Do a word study on an important word in the sentence. Find other verses that contain the word. Find the word in Greek, Hebrew. What exactly does the word mean? Learn to spell the word - compare other words that contain the same root, phonics rules, etc. Learn to add prefixes and suffixes to the word (how does it change the meaning?), make it plural? Look it up in a dictionary, alphabetize it with other words that begin the same. Write some sentences correctly using the word and show that the meaning is understood.

2. Do a geography study. If the verse is part of a story line, where is it taking place? Draw Bible time maps of the area. Draw current maps of the same area. Learn the cities, mountain, rivers, etc in the area or that are important to the story line.

3. Do a person study. Who is speaking the verse? Who is being spoken to or about? Study this person. What was their life like? Were they pleasing to God in their behavior? What lessons can we learn from this person's life?

4. Do a history study. What is happening in the world at the time this verse is written? Not just in the Bible lands, but also other parts of the world. Who are the major rulers at this time? What major events are happening?

5. Do a moral/virtue/ character study. What lessons are being taught? What is God trying to teach us? How can I apply this lesson to my life? What famous people have this character trait or lack it? How has their life been affected by their behavior? Are there family members that are strong in this trait and can be looked up to in this area?

6. Do a God study. What new things about God can we learn from this verse? What truths is He trying to teach us? Do a parable study. Do a law study. Do a commandment study.

Miscellaneous ideas:
Are there occupations mentioned? What were their jobs like? Compare it to people who have similar jobs today? Is money involved? What is its value? How much would it be worth today?

Think about if other things are mentioned: food, celebrations, metals, clothing, feasts, animals, plants, etc....Study them, classify them, compare them, disect them...have fun with them.

Are there numbers involved? Can you make it into a math lesson?

What science things are mentioned? stars, plants, animals, oceans, waves, rivers, rain, floods....?? ?

What art projects could be applied?

What about music? songs? poetry?

What games can we make to study or review the materials?
