Vocabulary Game for Elementary students

Posted in Vocabulary

This handclapping game can be used for learning vocabulary with young kids. There are all kinds of things you can use fruits, veggies, types of dogs (or whatever), animals, trees, plants, etc.

You sit in a circle with hands touching each other, then you clap two times.
You sing and speak while touching hands.
It starts:
Hands up in 08 [what ever year it is]
(clap, clap)
Gonna get (clap, clap)
names of
(clap, clap)
fruit[you pick the subject]
(clap, clap)
One a piece [how every many you wish each person to name]
(clap, clap)
No repeats
(clap, clap)
No hesitation
(clap, clap)
No demonstration
(clap, clap)
Starting with
(clap, clap)
[name of the person to begin]
(clap, clap)
Then each person has to name an item from the subject picked.
Person who misses is out. (However, when my husband, daughter, and I played this with my son when he was younger, we gave him hints. "What kind of fruit can you think of that is yellow? We use it to make a drink you like, etc.)
