Birthday Boy

Little Boys
Little boys come in all shapes and sizes,
Shy and adventurous, full of surprises,
With misshapen halos and mischievous grins,
Small dirty faces, and sweet, sticky chins.
They'll keep you so busy, and yet all the while
Nothing can brighten the world like their smile.
And no greater treasure has brought homes more joy
Than a curious, active, and lovable boy!

Joshua wanted a heart-shaped birthday cake ("cause he LOVES everyone") with blue frosting (his favorite color) and m'n'ms, oh, and marshmallows!

Judging by his face -- I think he liked it!

3.9 year old quotes of the day....
Joshua is turning 4 in two weeks. I wish I had a tape recording of all his funny sayings he comes up with.
After Christmas I bought a couple packages of Andes Mint Candies and somehow it's February and we still had a package left over! The other day Jordan was asking about making a Grasshopper pie. I told him to make a list of the other ingredients we needed and we discussed making it for Friday. (The recipe for Grasshopper Pie is at the bottom of this post.)
Today as I was mixing up the pudding for our lovely Grasshopper Pie, Josh came out in the kitchen and watched me intently. Then he asked ever so cautiously...
"Is that our Cricket Pie?"
You never know what is going on in their little heads!
Anyway, the cuteness didn't stop there...
Just now, while devouring our "cricket pie", Jesse made this comment about another matter ..
"Stop doing that, mom is worried"
To which Joshua replied...
"Mom's not worried -- she's beautiful!"
I love that kid.
Grasshopper Pie
1 Chocolate graham cracker crust
1 box chocolate instant pudding
1 1/2 Cups Milk
1 4.8 oz. pkg of Andes Mint Candies, chopped up (unwrapped too )
1 container whipped topping
a few drops of peppermint extract
a few drops green food coloring (optional)
Mix the pudding with the milk and let it set 2 minutes until it's soft set. Stir in a 1/2 cup of whipped topping and a 1/2 cup of the chopped candies. Spoon pudding mixture into crust.
Stir the mint extract into the remaining whipped topping and food coloring if you wish. Spread over top of pie. Sprinkle with remaining chopped Andes Candies.
Cover pie and place in coldest part of fridge for 4 hours.
Enjoy!

Time Out for Fun in the Leaves!
We get a ton of leaves each fall all over our 1/2 acre - and they need raking! Here the boys are making good use of the giant leaf pile by swinging from a vine attached to a nearby pine tree.

Two Birthdays....
The years are passing faster than I can stand and despite all my efforts to try to "cancel" these birthdays and keep my young'uns YOUNG they are happening anyway!
Our "Baby" turns THREE! All Boy but such JOY!

and our eldest - Kayla - turns (be still my heart) 15!! I'm so happy to have her as my daughter! :D

She and her friend planned a joint B-day Bash for this coming weekend. The sleepover consisting of 11 teenage girls is being held at the friends house, phew! ( I'm gonna owe that momma one!) All I have to do is supply the cake and breakfast - although I'm a little sad I'll miss out on the fun so I'll be 'crashing' the party at some point to get some pictures!!
We are taking a break from school both Tuesday and Friday to celebrate the big days. I leave you now with a little video the two of them collaborated on...
