Character First Academics Second

http://www.floridabaptistwitness.com/8334.article

This is exactly the message that was laid on my heart this morning to share.  And when I happened to stumble on this article, I figured they could say it better then I could.

A wise mentor shared this with me years ago and its taken me seven years to get it "right" in my homeschool.  The want and need for it has been there but I didnt get the how until recently.  I had to get right with God, right with His word.

"Traditional academics had to take a back seat to God's word and character building."

"You can be well educated in the world's eyes and still be a sorry person. You can graduate with degrees and have no character. Character defines who you are."

Hey, I have tried so hard to implement this. Wow, east to say hard to do. I read alot of books with the kids about the heart of the child when I started homeschooling. My kids are 2nd grade 3rd/4th grader and 4 years old. What about you. My seven year old has dyslexia and it's a difficult challenge. Praise the Lord I can teach my kids at home. What do you think about the natural speller.

Keep trying!

A friend and I were discussing this yesterday, that Christ needs to be at the forefront of our mind. That is first.

It's so easy to put "Bible" at the head of our list, but until we connect to our God who is waiting for us to build a relationship with him all "Bible" is is another subject. I know from experience.

Ive enjoyed Natural Speller, we also like AVKO's spelling. I think it was specifically written for Dyslexia.
