Where In The WORLD Are We?

About Me:

We're a homeschooling family who loves to travel. My husband, Rob, works at a university and this has enabled us to see many different countries. We have 4 boys. They are Robby-11, Justin-10, Alex-7, and Connor-5. I write this blog from the perspective of a Catholic, American woman adjusting to living in Saudi Arabia. I know that other people have been curious about what it is like for a Western woman here. So, I am very honest in sharing my own experiences and feelings about it. Sometimes, I do get it wrong and I do appreciate comments if my perceptions are incorrect. One of the reasons I love living here is that I learn something new every day. I love answering questions too, so if you have any please feel free to leave a comment or email me.

How Other People Eat Around the World

Posted on Oct. 17, 2009 at 2:20 AM in Our World

I received this email about two years ago. I showed it to the boys and they have never forgotten it. We were discussing how we can be servants of God and the boys want to do more to help the poor. Robby asked me if I still had this email and I did. It's very interesting. When I go to the grocery store here in Saudi I spend 300 riyals a week for the six of us, which is about $80, I think. Food is cheaper here than in the U.S.
What is eaten in one week around the world…

This is undoubtedly one of the most interesting e-mails I've ever received.
Take a good look at the family size & diet of each country , and the
availability & cost of what is eaten in one week.
Italy: The Manzo family of Sicily
Food expenditure for one week: 214.36 Euros or $260.11

Photobucket
Germany: The Melander family of Bargteheide
Food expenditure for one week: 375.39 Euros or $500.07
Photobucket
United States: The Revis family of North Carolina (Sure hope most American
families eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and less junk food than this family.)

Food expenditure for one week $341.98

Photobucket
Mexico: The Casales family of Cuernavaca
Food expenditure for one week: 1,862.78 Mexican Pesos or $189.09
Photobucket
Poland : The Sobczynscy family of Konstancin-Jeziorna

KFC Around the World

Posted on Aug. 8, 2009 at 12:39 AM in Our World

Photobucket Cyprus was very expensive. It's just a huge tourist beach resort. We had an apartment there, but even buying food was too expensive. There isn't any local food places, only British pubs. Luckily, we found the Summer Bucket at KFC. We were all so happy that we could eat good chicken and save money at the same time. This prompted us to figure out how many countries we've eaten KFC in. It was five countries and then, we vowed that from now on, we would eat KFC in every country we go. So, when we saw one right outside the pyramids in Egypt we were very excited. So, now we have eaten KFC in 6 countries!
