Day 1: Read about vertebrates on this site http://www.biology4kids.com/files/vert_main.html
Be sure to click on the vertebrate slide show and then take the online quiz.
Take notes as you are reading and work on some of your vocabulary.
Day 2: Read about invertebrates on this site.
http://www.biology4kids.com/files/invert_main.html
Take the online quiz and work on your vocabulary. Also take notes on what you read.
Look at pg. 7 of TCBOS gr. 5-6 notice how the animal kingdom is divided into categories. Now do pg. 8.
Day 3: Do pg. 24 of TCBOS gr. 3-4
Do pgs 9-14 in TCBOS gr. 5-6
Day 4: Invertebrate internet scavenger hunt (this will probably take awhile to do so assign a date to have them turn it in)
http://web.fccj.org/~dbyres/inverts.doc
Day 5: Do pg. 15 of TCBOS gr. 5-6 have them pick a vertebrate to do the research on.
Day 6: Have them make a web classification of the animal kingdom. They can read about it and get some examples in the Science Encyclopedia. The internet links would be helpful in filling out the web. A large poster board will probably be best for this activity.
Have them do a web classification that includes these animals: butterfly, amoeba, squid, earthworm, Komodo dragon, sperm whale, tree frog, manta ray, emperor penguin. They should include kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species.
