Week 3 – No other gods before me
Memory verse: Exodus 20:3
What are things that people put before God? Can you think of things that people tend to put more priority on? Gods can be things like money, fame, other people, and possessions. It is anything that we put before God. He wants us to love Him above all things. How could we show our love for God? We can show our love through obedience to His Word.
Make a list of the ideas they come up with on how to show our love for Him.
Now on a piece of large construction paper have the child glue a picture of themselves in the center and write “shows God love by” under the picture. Then have them cut out several different colored hearts. On the hearts they can copy from the list the ways they show God love and glue them to the paper. They could decorate with stickers, pictures, sequins, and other things to make it “pretty”.

Week 4 – graven images
Memory verse: Exodus 20:4
Further verses for reading: I Cor. 8:6, Ephesians 4: 5-6, Deuteronomy 4:11-19
Lesson and story for this commandment
Why do you think the Jews made the golden calf? God wants us to have faith in Him even though we can’t see Him or touch Him. He knows that as human it is in our nature to start worshipping the image and go through the motions. This is why He does not want to make images for worship so we keep our eyes on Him the one true God.

Week 5 – Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
Memory verse: Exodus 20:7
Lesson and story for this commandment
I liked the idea behind the recipe at the bottom of the lesson but it sounded rather gross to me. So I thought I would get some of those chocolates you melt to make suckers and things from the craft store instead and maybe some molds to make suckers. When we use the Lord’s name it should always be in sweetness and love.
Do you think using other words in place of curse words is the same as swearing? Is not the intent behind the words just as important as the words spoken? Doesn’t the Lord also know what is in our heart?

Week 6 – Remember the Sabbath
Memory verse: Exodus 20:8
Lesson and story for this commandment
In the story Becky makes a chart to remind her to worship God everyday. I think it would be a good idea for all of us to make a chart, to remind us. It is important to start our days worshipping God.

They could put handprints, decoupage pictures of themselves, just be creative and make it special to him. Then every day this week make dad a special note or card to put in his special keepsake box. Some of the commandments tell us how to treat God and others tell us how to treat other people. You’ll need to make 2 tablets out of poster board at the top of one write God and the other write people. Have precut strips with the commandments written on them and have the kids put the commandments on the right tablet.
