Hey! You have been on my mind for weeks now, and I knew I'd find a wealth of info when I got here. I might use your elementary life science with the youngest while her brother uses Apologia's Swimming and Land Animals (Zoology 2 and 3).

Thank you for the links on spelling and vocab. We also this year are going to use the eclectic speller. She is 12 but has had issues with phonetical spelling so I am going backwards in time. She loves the 19 century so hopefully it will help. Plus she likes online games so can't wait for her to try the site. Thanks so much for including links :)

Jul. 20, 2008 - History Text

I noticed the history text you've selected was written near the turn of the twentieth century. How do you plan on dealing with the historical anachronisms, legends and inaccuracies that are sometimes associated with texts of this period? For example, in the provided text it mentions the Columbian Moment as an effort to demonstrate the Earth's sphericity. Contemporary historical scholarship has provided compelling reasons for why this is in fact a gross historical error.

My son is in 3rd grade and we did Charlottes Web last year. He loved it! We just finished The Wind in the Willows (highly recommend) and are currently reading Doctor Doolittle. Next on our list is A Cricket in Times Square (an excllent book. If you go to www.litplans.com there is an amazing free study of the book. Questions for every chapter that are excellent). Trumpet of the Swan is on my bookshelf waiting to be read.

Happy reading!
