Apple Unit File Folder

Posted in Apples Unit

©2008 JoAnn

Here is the file folder I put together for our Apple Unit.  This way he can pull it out and play with it whenever he wants.  Here are some photos.

This is the first half of the folder.  I laminated the maze and the apple tree seasons sheet.  After we talk about the seasons of the apple tree and he colors the cards; I'll laminate those and stick them in the pouch I made for them.

This is the second half.  On this page I put letter A's and circles for him to trace, both laminated.  On the one side I left it blank for when we look for things that start with the letter A.  He'll then glue the things on this flap.

On the front is blank right now but I have a coloring page Aa is for apple that we'll glue on after he colors it.  On the back we are going to cut out and glue his coloring page for things that are red.

I'm making one for each letter we do.  I'm storing them in a cereal box that I cut to the shape of a magazine holder.  This way he can do it whenever he chooses.

This week we will be studying apples, the color red, circles, the letter A, and counting.  We will do a couple of each kind of activity everyday.

Activities for letter A book.

For the front cover we’ll use a piece of construction paper.  I’ll write the letter Aa on it and hole punch it.  Then we’ll go through magazines looking for the letter Aa and cut them out and glue them to the paper. As we do the other activities we’ll attach them with brass fasteners to this page.

Using a piece of construction paper and red tempera paint, I’ll have him finger paint the letter a on the paper.

Circle cut outs use these to make apples for them to practice counting. Use something sturdy like cardstock. You could also print the number on each apple.  If you make 2 sets you could play a matching game.  You could also use the for simple addition problems like: if I have 1 apple and I add 2 more apples how many do I have now?

Apple math worksheet

Apple graphing paper – Ideas to use this paper – paper punch some different colored “apples” for them to graph.  Use the circle template from above to cut out several different colors of “apples” for them to graph.  You could also purchase a variety bag of apples for them to graph.

Use this apple template to make simple puzzles.  Print it out and cut into half or quarters using either a zig zag or curvy cut.

Cut out several circles out of red construction paper of various sizes. Then have them put them in order according to size.

Circle Activities

Tracer paper apples in the shape of circles

Apples in a basket – You’ll need construction paper, glue, and scissors.

Cut several strips of construction paper and have the child weave them like a basket.  They can then glue this to another sheet of construction paper.  Then print these circles cut outs on red paper.  Have the child cut them out and glue them so they are in the basket.  You could have them add leaves and stems if you wish.

For snacks this week have everything in the shapes of circles.  Some things you can serve: apples, cookies, crackers, cheerios, oranges, sandwiches cut as circles,

On this page you can find several activities for circles.  We are going to do circle trees and use red to represent apples and probably the rest.

Color the smaller objects red worksheet.

Cut an apple in half and show them what’s inside.  Explain about the different parts.

Then you can use these to make an apple print.  Put some tempera paint in a shallow dish.  Dip the apple half into the paint and then press unto the paper.  For added color try using 2 or 3 colors in the pan.

Poem and Song Notebook

We’ll add to this with every lesson.  On a shape paper I’ll have printed a poem or song and I’ll have them draw some illustrations or color it.  We’ll sing the song and then add the page to our notebook.  We’ll sing the song or do the fingerplays everyday adding to our book and doing some of the old ones.  We’ll add some for everything we learn this week.

Here you can find circle fingerplays and songs.
