Circus Unit Lapbook

Here is our circus unit lapbook.  I glued to file folders together to make this.  I store it in a cereal box that I have cut to the shape of a magazine holder.

This is the inside to the first half.  There are numbers and ovals to practice tracing.  Both are laminated so he can do it over and over.  The clowns in a barrel is a counting activity.  You'll see a baggie of small stars on the top of each clowns hat is a number.  He is to place the number of stars on the barrel that the clown's hat says.  There are also a sorting game, ordering game, and what don't belong game.

Here is a picture of the sorting game.  This was a page in a preschool workbook.  I just cut it out and laminated it.

These are some of the cards for the what don't belong game.  I found these in a workbook also.  I just cut them up and laminated them.  Yes I love hacking things up.  LOL  He can either circle the thing that don't belong or point it out.

This is the inside of the second half.  On the one flap is find the c's activity.  I just wrote a bunch of letters on it and then put a sheet of laminate over it.  There is a letter c tracer paper and below that is a space to attach his letter c book when it is completed.  On the other flap we will glue things that start with the letter c.

On the back is a page I tore out of a preschool book.  He is to circle the things that are yellow.  Under that we will attach things that are yellow from his lesson

Here are the links I used to make this lapbook.

This week we will be studying the circus, the letter C, the oval, the color yellow, and writing numbers 1-5.

Letter C Activities:

We’ll look through this weeks story books and I’ll have him point out all the letter c’s that he sees.

Let the child finger-paint letter C’s on a large piece of paper.

Draw the letter C on a piece of construction paper.  Draw it large so it can be filled in with pictures of things that start with the letter C.

Color Yellow Activities:

Color the balloons yellow

http://www.first-school.ws/t/cpclown5.htm

Yellow headband:  cut a strip of yellow construction paper to fit the child’s head then staple the ends together.  Then have them glue yellow feathers to it.  They may wish to add sequins or glitter to the headband.

Do a string painting with yellow tempera paint.  You simply dip the string in the paint and then run it on some paper to make designs.

Do some rubbings.  Tape a variety of things on the table (sandpaper, leaves, and doilies) for the kids to place white paper on and use yellow crayons to do rubbings.

Shaving cream art: add a few drops of yellow paint to shaving cream and let the kids paint with it.

Supply the children with yellow noodles and let them create a piece of art.  They can glue the noodles to a design or make their own.

Blow art:  you’ll need watered down yellow paint, straws, white paper, and a dropper.  Give the child a sheet of paper, a straw, and a dropper full of watered down paint.  Instruct them to drop a few drops of the paint on the paper and then using their straws blow it around.

You could get balloons used for making balloon animals and have a go at making some.

Snack ideas; popcorn, peanuts, soft pretzels,

On a piece of poster board let them pick different images from here or here to create their own circus scene.
