What I've been up to

©2008 JoAnn

I think this is probably my busiest time of the year.  So my blog post may become erractic.  I've been busy updating my homemaking journal, sewing some projects, and having Princess' birthday party.  This is on top of the usual stuff.  I finished the kids' aprons and I'm almost done with the felt boards.  I'll be posting pictures soon.  I've been doing some Bible studying lately that has really been convicting me on my role as a mother and wife.  That is one of the reasons I updated my homemaking journal.  I'll be sharing that with you all soon.

Princess turned 3 on Saturday.  It's so hard to believe she is that old already.  She has been doing great with the potty.  She has had only 1 accident since I last posted.  I just keep thinking it can't be that easy.  My boys took forever to potty train.  I guess the old saying that girls are easier to potty train are true.  Well at least in this house.

Until next time.

Have a blessed day!

Everybody do a Happy Dance!

Princess is potty trained!  I think she was the easiest.  It took 3 days of consistency but today she has gone to the potty everytime.  She had no accidents at all today!  I know she may still have an accident here and there.   But she has the concept down.  I'm diaper free!  No more dirty diapers!  Yeah!

Terrific News!!

©2008 JoAnn

Peewee got saved tonight at church!!  My heart just sings!  I could cry.

And to think I almost didn't take them because Princess has been sick.  All day that just didn't sit right with me and about an hour before church I told the boys to get ready I was going to drop them off.  What a blessing!  I'm glad I listened.

Have a blessed day!

Meet the Royals

©2008 JoAnn

This is a picture of what my kids wore for trick or treating and to the party at the rec. center this year.

Peewee won 2nd place in the costume contest.  He was thrilled.

I know not everyone believes we should trick or treat but this is a decision dh and I have made and I really don't feel like debating it.

Pumpkin's Home

©2008 JoAnn

Pumpkin made it home safe and sound.  He slept for 6 hours after he got home and then raided the kitchen.  He's been following me around ever since telling me every detail of his camp experience.  He really enjoyed himself.  I'm glad that he feels comfortable enough to tell me everything.  Though I don't really think it is necessary for him to recount every conversation.  But then I feel blessed that my teen still talks to me.  I'm glad he's home.  I sure did miss him this week.  It felt really strange not having all my kids with me.   He's already talking about going again next year.  Tell me this gets easier.  I'm just glad there is a gap between the kids so I can adjust to this new phase of life.

Peewee has scout camp this coming week.  At least his only day camp and I don't have to part with him for long.

Thanks

©2008 JoAnn

I wanted to thank everyone that gave me book suggestions for Peanut.  They were extremely helpful and greatly appreciated.  I've been working on putting the lessons together.  It has been slow going though.  Life has been pretty busy around here.  And everytime Peanut sees me working on his stuff he starts pleading "learn me, momma"  Can you tell he's excited about starting them?  Of course he doesn't understand that I need to do a little planning first.  He thinks the activity bags and other things I have for him to do are beneath him now.  I confess it does my heart good to see him so thirsty for knowledge.  I will definitely post them as I finish them.  Have a great week everyone!

Boys are strange

©2008 JoAnn

What do 2 boys who are bored and impantiently waiting for mom to get ready to leave do, when they find a roll of duck tape?  They cut off sections of it and stick it to each others back and then pull it off!  What are they thinking?  I tell ya sometimes these boys really make me question their sanity!  And to boot they are laughing as they are pulling it off of the other!

I just thought I'd share how insane my boys are!

A Momma Brag

©2008 JoAnn

I decided to test the boys on their reading basically because I wanted to see what we still needed to work on.  And I have to admit I was curious as to what their reading level was.  After all it is nice to know you aren't ruining their lives by homeschooling them.  I was very pleased with the results.  Peewee rated at a 5.3 and Pumpkin rated at 9.3.  Peewee really astonished me because at the beginning of last year he didn't even know all his alphabet.  He has come such a long way.  Pumpkin has done really well this year also he was only at 6th grade reading level at the beginning of the year.  They were pretty excited about it also.  It's so nice for them to see the result of their hard work.

Though I will admit there is still room for improvement and a definite pattern of mistakes.  This was also not a formal test.   I think they are doing great and this momma is proud.  Now if I could only get Peewee to read to others like he does for me and himself.

Today went pretty well.

©2008 JoAnn

Today has been a good day.  Pumpkin got up early so he could get his school work done before P.E. today.  I have really seen a huge growth in this area with him.  Every week I write up the things he needs to accomplish for the week and give him a copy of the list.  I let him decide what he is going to do on what day, of course he has a minimum number of assignments he has to accomplish every day.  But this method has been working really well for him.  He is going to be done with most of his work by May 28th.

Peewee stayed the night at his buddies house but they brought him home before P.E. class so he just did his work after P.E.   Today we worked on his History Notebook.  He is reading "The Revolutionary War on Wednesday."  He's enjoying it and there is some history facts in there.  I personally don't think this is that great of a book.  He copies some things out of the book for his notebook and sometimes I read to him the part he is to write.  We are also filling in the timeline as we learn things.  Next we are going to read George Washington Solider, Hero, President.  During this we have our overview book The American Revolution for Kids that we are reading.  I like doing history this way we are covering penmanship, reading, history, spelling, and grammar.  We talked about using capital letters at the beginning of sentences, for people's names, and naming a particular place.  He did pretty good with the narration of course there was some words he didn't know how to spell.  His penmanship is coming along though there is plenty of room for improvement.  At least today he left space between the words and I could read them.

Peanut actually has been on a school kick lately and worked right along with us.  He colored some pictures about our topic for his notebook. We also worked on counting, colors, and some alphabet.  He enjoys sitting listening to his brother read.

Princess just scribbled on paper with markers and herself of course.  She also helped mom make some banana bread until I went to add the bananas.  Then she started freaking out because how dare I take her bananas and smash them up.

The guys both had soccer practice tonight.  Then we came home and just hung out till bed time.  Overall it was a pretty laid back day.  I love days when things just kinda flow.

Today's Milestone

©2008 JoAnn

Today my Peanut got to go spend the night at Grandma's house with the big boys.  This has been a matter of passage from babyhood to big boy for all of them.  When they can go with out any potty accidents they get to go stay the night.  I actually shed a few tears over this one, I guess because it is my last baby boy.  Of course I had to take a picture of my Peanut leaving the house with his overnight bag.

He was not pleased that I was interrupting his exit.

Oh and I just had to show you what I found when I looked outside this evening.  Yep that there is our spring snow.
