Jun. 9, 2008 Assignment 29
It's been a month since the last assignment. I'm sure everyone has been busy. For this assignment, chose something that has happened in the past month and write a newspaper article about the event. Be sure to answer the 5 W's; who, what, where, when, why. (You don't have to use real names or places to protect your privacy. Fictional names and places are just fine, but keep the event in tact otherwise.)
After this assignment we will be taking a break until the begining of August. That will give you time to do some of the other assignments that you missed from the past year.
Looking forward to reading what you write.
Have a great summer!
After posting your assignment, don't forget to come back and sign Mr. Linky.

Apr. 13, 2008 Assignment 26
| Sometimes writers use a tool called a ‘hyperbole’ to exaggerate something. A hyperbole is a figure of speech that exaggerates something to create a strong impression, and is not meant to be taken literally.
Examples are:
They have a ton of money
He has a brain the size of a pea.
He’s older than the hills.
I could just die.
He was as big as a house.
I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.
I’ve told you a million times.
She’s walking on cloud nine.
Write a short story about you day but fill it with hyperboles. (exaggerations)

Mar. 16, 2008 Assignment 23
This assignment may stretch your mind and imagination.
Easter is the celebration of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To fulfill the prophesy of Scripture and to guarantee salvation to those who believe and trust in Him, His earthly body died on what we call Good Friday and the rose again three days later. Then He ascended into heaven to be with God our Father.
For this assignment, think about these events from our past and how they have affected your life. Now consider what it would have been like if God had decided to fulfill the prophesy in our time. Describe how you think the events would have unfolded? How would your life have been different? What do you think the world would have been like? Consider all the things we have today and what it was like back then. Write your story from any point of view you may wish, for example: as a news reporter, as an apostle, as a follower, as a religious leader, etc… Keep the same events: betrayal by Judas, handed over for trail, trail and persecution, crucificition on the cross, burial and resurrection. You are only setting the time frame in the present, not altering the physical events.
Again, this assignment is only to stretch your mind and make you think.

Feb. 3, 2008 Assignment 17
Here is a classic writing idea for this week’s assignment.
Take your favorite fairy tale but tell it from a different point of view. For example:
Re-tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood from the Wolf’s side of the story.
Or
Try telling Cinderella’s adventures from the glass slipper’s view of the story.
Or
How about letting Goldilocks have her say about the three bears.
Any story will work.

Betty Botter had some butter,
"But," she said, "this butter's bitter.
If I bake this bitter butter,
it would make my batter bitter.
But a bit of better butter--
that would make my batter better."
So she bought a bit of butter,
better than her bitter butter,
and she baked it in her batter,
and the batter was not bitter.
So 'twas better Betty Botter
bought a bit of better butter.

She sells sea shells by the sea shore.
The shells she sells are surely seashells.
So if she sells shells on the seashore,
I'm sure she sells seashore shells.

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck
if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
He would chuck, he would, as much as he could,
and chuck as much wood as a woodchuck would
if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

Most of us have heard these silly tongue twisting poems before. But did you know that they use the fun literary device called ‘alliteration’? Alliteration, simply put, is the same sound starts a series of words or syllables. Writers use alliteration as a type of word music in their writing or to grab the readers’ attention.
Chose a letter and write your own tongue twister using alliteration. Make sure you write complete sentences.
