Our Heavenly Haven

Jan. 25, 2008 - Meet the rest of the gang...

Hi there!  I told you I would be back today, didn't I?

OK, so I promised to share with everyone a little more about my family.  So today you get to meet my kids.  Let's dive right in, shall we?

The eldest is Jasmine age 10 (turning 11 in March).  She is the only one that goes to public school and as I stated in the previous post, we share custody of her.  She goes to school 2 blocks away from our home, which means in essence she is here more often than not.  Half the week she sleeps here and the other half she sleeps at her mother's house.  We then rotate weekends.  FOr example, this weekend she is here, so she will just stay here this afternoon after school through til next Wednesday.  But next week she will go to her mother's house after school on wed, thurs, and fri and stay til Sunday morning, when her mother will bring her back for church.  It all runs pretty smoothly and works well for everyone and Jasmine is happy because she gets to attend school here, which she prefers much more than attending the system where her mom lives.  Jasmine loves church and was saved and baptized (along with daddy) about 2 years ago.  She also participates in 5th grade choir at school and enjoys singing.  She is very musical and always has an mp3 players earbuds in at least one ear.  She has a guitar, but doesn't know yet how to play.  It is hard for her and Dad to really sit and do lessons as she becomes very impatient and frustrated.  We are hoping within the next couple of years that will get a bit better and she can learn.  Jasmine loves being silly and is quick witted like her father - which somrtimes ets her in trouble with me, cause she doesn't always think before she speaks.  She enjoys recruiting her brothers to make up skits and dances and songs that they perform for us daily.  Jasmine recently received a skateboard for CHristmas and has shown a lot of skill with it.  She has learned several tricks such as an ollie (don't ask me what that is) and she is now working on a kickflip .  Her father takes her and her brothers down to the park, which is also 2 blocks away, where we have an outdoor skate park and they practice and watch the older, more experienced kids on their boards and bikes. Mom doesn't much participate in this sport, as it makes me EXTREMELY nervous just watching them try to jump and flip around on the boards.  But many of the older kids that are always at the park, who have been skating along time, have told my husband that she is learning very quickly for having been skating for only a month.  She is very pleased with that.  Here is a pic of Jasmine and I in matching aprons I made us...

OK, now we come to Drew who is 7 (turning 8 in March).  Drew is mine from a previous relationship and my husband and I have raised him together since he was 3.  Drew is verrry much mommy's boy, though lately he has shown an icreasing intrest in imitating and hanging out with Dad.  This warms my heart but also hurts a bit, as it is a sign he is growing up and is working on becoming a man.  Don't get me wrong, this is my goal for my boys, I am just not ready .  They grow up much too fast.  Anyhow, he is a lot like his momma in many ways.  he is very tenderhearted, which I am afraid will cause him some pain in life, but that's ok.  He will also be able to be more compassionate towards others' feelings.  He can also be pretty stubborn and sometimes likes to argue when he shouldn't.

Drew loves music also, ever since he was a baby he would move to the beat of whatever music he heard.  he loves dancing around the living room and singing and being silly.  Drew's fav super hero is Spider-man.  He has seen all 3 movies a BILLION times (he owns them) and is starting to show an intrest in collecting comic books featuring Spidey. Drew LOVES video games which Mom and Dad have to keep close tabs on.  He would play 24-7 if left alone.  His favorite foods are Mac N Chese and PBJ sammiches.  Pretty easy for mom  .  Drew is homeschooled and is technically in the 2nd grade, though we don't really focus much on "grade levels" so to speak.  he is in different levels in different subjects.  His fav subjects are History and Science.  Drew loves Jesus and loves to make up songs about Him and sing them to us.  Drew is also very good at Math.  Here is a picture of Drew with Dad. they are making our tree topper with paper mache....

Now you get to meet Isaiah...

Jan. 24, 2008 - Ok so here we go...
Posted in General

My first post....yipee!

This is gonna be my place to basically journal...WHATEVER!  I plan to have lots of pics and even links to videos about our family and our typical day.  I am hoping this will maybe show how much fun and how rewarding HSing can be.

It's a very high calling we have as parents and I just can't imagine sending my kiddos off to PS every day and being able to feel totally ok about how well I was doing as a Christian parent.  I know that HSing is NOT for everyone and that God calls different people to different things in life...BUT there is no doubt in my mind that THIS is His calling for ME!  SO I do it with a joyful and thankful heart and with determination and perserverance!

On that note, I hope to be sharing with you all over the next few days what our family is all about, why we do what we do and even a lil about how we do it!  For now I will start by introducing you to..well...myself!

I am Cassandra, and I have been a Christian now for about 5 years and a HSer for about 4.  I have 3 children....Isaiah is 6, Drew is 7, and Jasmine is 10.  The boys are at home with mom for schooling and Jasmine is at public school 2 blocks away.  We don't get to HS her because we share custody with her mother. Yes, she is my step daughter.  Then very soon we get to add another lil ball of energy to the family.  In May of this year we are expecting the arrival of our 4th child.  He is a boy and will be Joey.  I can't wait to meet him and am getting quite antsy by now!  He is the answer to many years of prayer!  I have struggled with recurrent miscarriages up until now, so we are thrilled to finally have another lil one in the house.

I am 28 years old.  I enjoy reading, music, teaching, sewing, baking, eating (who doesn't really) and just hanging out with my family.  I am married to Bobby and he definitely keeps me laughing!  He is very witty and sarcastic and keeps us all in stitches most of the time.

When I have free time I like to chat on my fav message boards, surf HSing sites, watch movies, read, and now blog!  I really love when it's warm out cuz I spend lots of time out in the sun!  I am very ready for all this cold to go AWAY :)

You will be getting to know me lots better over the next few weeks and tomorrow I will share some about each of my kiddos.  Stay tuned...
