Wild and Wonderful West Virginia
Feb. 28, 2006 - Planting eggs!

Welcome to my new blog!  I live in the beautiful state of West Virginia, (no not western Virginia), yes there really is a state named West Virginia.  You would never believe the people that don't know that!  I am the almost 50 year old wife, mother, grandmother, who is really enoying life.  I homeschool my youngest son, and everyday is an adventure with him.  We use different textbooks for homeschooling as this is what he prefers.  I would love to use unit studies, but that frustrates him.  I am sure that you are wondering about planting eggs.  Well, I have had chickens for about 9 months and love them.  I only have about 12 and they are different varieties.  Well, I went out to gather eggs the other day and found 3 hens sitting on the same nest,  trying to hatch the same 3 eggs.  My husband had read somewhere that if you put golf balls in the other nests, they would think they were eggs and lay with the golf balls.  He found several golf balls and put two in diffent nests....we couldn't wait to see if "planting eggs" worked.  Several days later the hens are still using the same nest...and there is nothing growing in the other nests, but golf balls.

Welcom to Homeschoolblogger. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have so far.
I love the story about the eggs. Does the fact that they will sit on golf balls mean that they have bird brains or does the fact that they won't mean that we are for trying to get them to sit on golf balls. LOL
We love textbooks here too. Well atleast 3 of the 4 do. The 4th one (7 years old) only likes to play outside.

We used to have chickens and they always seemed to lay their eggs in the same nest...always..no matter how many nests we had...I miss having them now, hopefully will be able to get some again, when we buy a place..We always chuckled and made jokes about watching "chick tv" when we had our chicks under the lights when they were babies...we would sit for hours and watch them...
