Mar. 19, 2008 - Have you lost your Home Schooling enthusiasm?
I was at an Alpha meeting last night and heard Nicky Gumbel use an illustration that made me think of Home Schooling parents.
He was talking about a Christian who had lost their enthusiasm for the Lord. This man was sharing this fact with a friend. The friend reached (with a poker) into the fireplace in front of them - removed a burning coal from the fire and placed it on the hearth alone. They watched the coal cool and grow black. Wow - we really need fellowship as Christians to remain *hot* with our enthusiasm for the Lord. (Forsake not the assembling together of yourselves!)
Anyway, I sat up, wrote the story down and thought how well it related to Home Schooling moms / parents.
We had a support group meeting Monday night. I had a friend visiting that had not been able to attend a Home School Support Group meeting in three years. Where she moved to, three years ago, there just isn't a lot of home school support. She enjoyed it immensely.
Yes, we can share online (it sure is better than nothing, if we aren't able to attend a support group meeting) BUT how much better it is to share in real life, when we are able.
It really reminded me of how important it is to be real and to reach out to home schooling parents wherever we find them.
Are you a little down about home schooling? Not as excited as you once were? Deep in the trenches with all the details?
Why not plan to get together with a home schooling friend soon and just share how things are going. As you try to encourage them, I'm sure they would encourage you!
Oh, and plan to attend a support group meeting when you can. None in your area? Why not start one? I'll post my tips for hosting one in my next blog. smile
