Home Sweet Homeschool

Apr. 24, 2008 - A recent experiment - so fun!

We did a fun one out of the Usborne Big Book of Science Things to Make and Do
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Science-Things-Usborne-Activities/dp/0746080387 recently.
(By the way, leaving books out to attract the girls is working - I need to buy some items, but Jewel
was very intrigued with this book and also made the Squirty Whale - I just need to buy a balloon to make that work!)

Here is the recipe that we loved.

Fill a glass jar half full of vinegar.  Add several drops of food dye, glitter and a generous squirt of dish soap.  Put jar on a cookie sheet.  Add a teaspoon or two (or three) of baking soda to see the chemical reaction.  Very cool.  They loved it.
I will be buying more vinegar today.  smile  (The book has the explanation of what happened.)

You should buy the book or check it out from the library!
