Update and garden

Here is some update pictures of son's turkeys. These are the ones that he hatched out. He has started to let them run loose some at times in the yard. They have to show each other who is boss so they do their strutting. lol

Here are the ones he bought. As you can see they are about the same size. The black ones are two weeks younger too.

Now then here is some pictures of our garden. The rows are right about 75 foot long.

Tomatoes are on the cattle panels. We have some really nice size ones now but waiting for them to become ripe.

This is some of the beets we have planted. We have 3 rows of them. lol Love those beets.

Then we have golden wax beans and cucumbers and corn. The cucumbers are a yellow variety and you can eat the peelings. No bitterness. I can't remember what they are called but hubby plants them every year.

This is son's row. We haven't gotten around to tilling beside his row so he has some weeds close to it.  He likes to grow his own row every year and take care of it to see what he can do. His row is where you see the cattle panels at the end.

We also have cabbage and broccoli that we are already eating.

Hope you are all having a  great summer. It is really getting hot here in So. Missouri. We are getting into the 90's and heat index in the 100's. The pool has warmed up quickly. We are looking into putting 35% peroxide in the  pool instead of the chemicals. If any of you know more about that please be sure and let me know. I have been doing some research on it and so far it looks good. We worry about the chemicals soaking into the body so much cause we are in the pool every day.

Well that's about it for now. Have a great day and weekend my friends.

New Additions

Met Metusela(sp?) and Charlotte. They were already named when we got them. Don't know about the name of the first one whether or not we will keep that name or not. So funny, I sold all my goats but 4 and then dried them up and hubby says that he wanted to have some goat milk. So what to do, what to do. So I found these two this morning and here they are. lol They are only a little over a year old and good milkers. They are almost double the size of my other one year old and the size of my 5 year olds. lol I read a book not long ago about how great goat milk is for you if you drink it as soon as you milk while it is still foaming. It was hard to do at first but then I got used to it. We are always trying to find ways to be healthier without alot of cost too.

We found out raw beets is another healthy food. We are finding out that they are really good in salads or just slicing them up and eating them. Suppose to lower blood pressure and other great benefits.

Ok, guess that is about all that's going on around here for now. Have a great day!

Canoe Trip

We went on our first canoe trip of the summer this past weekend. The water was a little chilly for some but for the most part it was a fun trip. C and the guy he was riding with tipped once each day. Didn't lose anything either. Did get some things a little wet though. lol We had most things in 5 gallon buckets so that stuff stayed dry. This picture is son taking off to go fishing while everyone ate breakfast.

Then he had company.

Here, hubby is drying his shorts so he can put them back on. lol

Charles jumping off the rocks.

See the guy up on top of the bridge, that is one of our crew. Alot of jumping off this. Son almost did it from the bottom part of the bridge and then backed out and I was so glad he did. Even the 7 year old kids did it. Not me, no way

No one got hurt except some guy we don't know that was doing it and he dove in and flattened out too much right before he hit water. He said that didn't feel good at all.

Didn't see one snake until the second day and it started out with one under our canoe. When I moved it there he was. One of the guys killed it and then picked it up by the tail and ran after me with it. I thought I was going to have a heart attack right then. I am that terrified of them. Gives me shivers just sitting here typing this. lol

Now back to work and get some things done. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Who's taller

Yep that is what's going on here. Son got on his tippy toes and so then dad had to also. lol As you can see there is not much distance to go for son. lol

We also had a visitor this weekend. An unwanted one at that.

My dogs did not welcome him at all either. He showed up with 2 other dogs. One ran off and thankfully there was a number on this one so we called them and he came got the 2 that stayed around. We ended up having to put them on chains and lock ours up cause the fighting was so bad. Plus the other one wanted son's turkeys for lunch. Not good. But all is well and they are home where they belong.

Charles cousin had a birthday this weekend and so I painted her a little box for her treasures.

Not much new going on since we have been on break except lots of work. Have a great day!

New Calf

I will tell you right off that if you are a little squimish you may want to skip the first picture. One of our milk cows was calving this morning and we ended up having to pull it. This is as far as she could get. She got so weak that we thought she was going to not be able to get up when she fell down.

So I had son run to the barn and grab a rope and I tied it around it's feet and got around a tree and pulled him out.

Took a little bit to get her up and I finally moved the calf to her side some so she could see it and then she got up. This next one is where he is trying to stand. He is a big calf. He is almost as big as my 3 month old calves out in the field.

Here's the final picture of him and mom.

Hope you enjoyed the trip down farm lane. lol Have a wonderful day.

School's Out

School is out for us for the summer. It is such a great feeling too. We both needed the break and looking forward to it.

Here is son being a little goofy with some frogs from the pool. They are actually on the window.

Here is some updated pictures of his turkeys too. This is the 15 Royal Palms that he bought.

And these are the ones that we had to incubate because their mom got killed before they hatched. Saturday they will be a week old.

Today son and I did a little community service by going down our county road and cutting all the limbs that were hanging down and hitting our vehicles from the ice storm that we had a while back. I thought that was a great thing to teach my son and he felt so good to be doing it and we both had fun doing it too.

Well I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

more turkeys

Son went out this morning and bought himself 15 baby turkeys.

See the reason he did this is because his hen turkey that had been setting on eggs got killed by an uncle's dog the other day. So he was so bummed and this is what made him happy. lol His money, so if that is what he wants to spend it on. And he has also thought about if he decided not to keep some of them he can resale them and get his money back out of them and when they are bigger he can even make money off them. I am going to have him keep a log on how much he has spent on them and such so he can see what it cost to do something like this. I think it is a great lesson for him.

It has been rainy here all week and suppose to be all weekend also. I am ready for sunny days again. lol My lawn is getting too tall with all the rain. We will be busy with mowing for awhile when it gets dry again. lol Anyone want to help? lol

Well that is about it for now, have a great weekend.

Hats out

Ok, it is time to get the gardening hats out.

The guys are headed out to the sunny garden so they had to have their hats. It is around 80 degrees here today.

Son has learned how to make a star in math using a compass and protractor and so he thought he needed to paint one on my little donkey cart that I made a few years back.

And here is the finished product.

Hope you all are having a great week and wish you a blessed weekend.
