Hard week again

Boy have we been having a hard week. But some good has happened too. I did get out of the jury duty for that murder trial. I thank God for that every day. That was stressing me out pretty bad. Then on Thursday, son was throwing wood in our furnace room and smashed his finger really bad. We had to take him to the ER and he got 8 stitches that we counted in it.

These pictures are 3 days after because he had to keep a bandage on it til then. Pretty nasty don't you think. They said he will lose that fingernail. He is doing pretty good just staying a little bored cause he can't do much. The good part it is his right hand and he is left handed so it didn't effect school. Although he doesn't think that is a good thing. lol Also he had no broken bones so we are very thankful for that also.

Ok next, we had my van's fuel pump went out, got that fixed then the brakes on the bucket truck went out and still don't have that fixed. Suppose to have a guy come out and do that but it has been raining so that hasn't happened. Then hubby's truck had a problem of not wanting to back up when it was cold. We thought it was the transmission but found out it had something to do with his brakes on one of his back tires. So all is good on that now.

Got both the quilts done that I was working on and started a couple more now to try and get done before Christmas. We will see how that goes. lol Here is one of them and the other is a post back.

Lots of cleaning to be done cause our oldest son and his wife are suppose to come down for Thanksgiving. Whew! Lots to do.

So I hope this finds you all doing well and wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving.

Hello All

Well hello everyone. It has been awhile since I have posted here. I got on Facebook and don't get over here much anymore.

School is going good. Teaching Textbooks is working out good for my son for math. He is able to do it without any help from me and it is a good thing cause that stuff is just going right over my head. It is probably cause I have no interest in learning it, but I won't tell him that. lol He is really doing quite well. I am so proud of him.

Lets see, I got a quilt top done and will try and post a picture of it real soon.

Son got his first deer this youth season. It was an 8 point buck. Let me tell you that was alot of work cutting it up and putting in the freezer. But got it done.

I got called for jury duty this month. Really dreading that. I tried to get out of it cause of homeschooling and they said no way.

Son got his desk finished too. It turned out really nice. Here is the before shot.

And now the after picture

We finally got a dry week this week. It is so nice not to be fighting mud every time you go outside.

Well that is what has been up with us . So until next time, here's hoping you all are doing well.

What I have been up to lately

Well as usual it has been busy around here. I have been doing quilting between schooling and everything else. Plus I just painted a picture of a dophin on my wheelcover for my van. Here is a picture of both.

Also you just have to see what my son wrote on the board the other day cause he was bored sitting at his desk. lol

I thought that was so cute.

Oh, and another thing happened. We found out a couple weeks ago that my hubby's son that just got married on the 29 of Aug, his new wife is pregnant. So we are going to grandparents. They are just thrilled to pieces. I was hoping they would wait a little bit and get to really know each other better first but am happy for them non-the less.

Well I am going to get some dishes done now. So hope you are all doing great. Have a great day.

Dot

Spaghetti Squash

Just check out this huge spagetti squash that son picked today for me out of our garden. Now that will make a big supper, don't you think. lol We put the ruler upside down which we didn't notice til I posted this and it is too late cause I already have it cooking. lol It is 10 1/2" tall. That is the biggest we have ever grown.

All is going pretty good with school and everything is the same ole, same ole here. I will post more as things happen. Have a great day my friends.

Space Shuttle siting

We here in So. Missouri was able to watch the space shuttle go overhead tonight.  That was pretty cool for us since we would probably never be able to see it take off in Florida. Son took some pictures as best he could with his camera.

On this first one it is over to the far right. and the next is in the middle of the trees and then the 3rd pic it is almost in the middle of the pic.

That was just pretty awesome. Had to share it with you all. Hope you all got to see it also.

A recent trip

Well, I havent blogged in a few days so I thought I would share about our recent trip that we took. First we went to Alley Springs,  MO and viewed the old school house. They have preserved the chalkboard and check out the date on it along with their schedule.

Then inside the mill was this sign that I thought was cool.

We then was told about the next two places and had to check them out while we were up there. The first one is Blue Springs,

I thought this was cute, one recording and one taking a picture. The next shot will show you what they were taking a picture of.

Notice how you can see to the bottom. The sign said that it is 310 ft. deep. It said that if you put the Statue of Liberty in it, the water would go over to top of the torch.  Pretty Awesome huh. You can see why it is called Blue Springs too cause of how blue it is.

Next we went on down the road to a place called Rocky Falls. When we get there we see these people swimming and just this small waterfall. Well once you climb up the rocks then you get to see the real beauty of it all.

The picture really doesn't bring the beauty out like the naked eye sees. It was just beautiful.

Well hope you all are having a great day. Take care and until next time, stay cool and enjoy life.

Schooling is back!

            visit dazzlejunction.com

Or do we ever really leave it behind just because we aren't sitting down doing bookwork. We are learning new things day in and day out. We started back with lessons on the 3rd of Aug. So after being told about Teaching Textbooks for math, we decided to break down and get it. I am so excited about starting it when it gets here. Son is starting Algebra and I am no good in math anyways and as far as I can see this program is teaching it for you. So I hope this will be a good change for son cause at the time being he hates math. I will let you know more when we get going on it. I should have it by the weekend and we will start it shortly after it arrives.

Son is doing so much better in his studies this year also. He is more independent and that helps me too.

Well not much else going on here lately. Been canning and getting some garden things put up and then just daily things.  Hope you all are doing well and settling back into your routines easily.

Have a wonderful day!

What we have been up to

Well let's see, we had unwanted guest that we had to relocate.

I showed son how to make egg rolls then we baked them instead of deep frying, which I didn't know you could do until I seen it on the internet.

Then I ordered a couple books off of Amazon for son called, " The American Boys Handy Book by Noel Perrin, and the other one is, "The Curious Boy's Book of Adventure" by Sam Martin. He hasn't been able to hardly put them down. Check out one of the things he has made.

One other thing that comes to mind that he has been doing is refinishing a desk we bought at a yard sale over the summer. It was horribly painted white and he is stripping it and wants to varnish it. So here is the start of him working on it. I will show more when it is finished.

Now we have started school back on the 3rd of Aug. It is going pretty good so far. He is jumping right in there and getting it done, which I love.

Hubby and I also celebrated our 17th anniversary on the 1st of Aug too.

Hope you all had or are still having a great summer.

farm & fair

First we will start off with the farm part of the day. I took son out and taught him how to spike hay and then back it up and stack it in rows. He had tried this before but just thought he couldn't do it. I told him there is no such thing as can't do it when you are on a farm and so I rode with him and showed him step by step what to do and let him do it. It took him a couple tries but he got the hang of it and off he went. This is a bigger tractor than he is used to driving and he had never backed it up to stack the hay cause dad would be there waiting and do it for him. So he was pretty proud when he finally got the hang of things and did really good doing it too.

Ok, now onto the fair part of the day. He entered his sweet banana and gypsy peppers and won 2nd place on 3 plates of them and then 1st place on golden wax beans.

Now it is riding time. I couldn't believe the height of these rides he rode.

This one wasn't too bad on height but it would go up and then just drop. YIKES!

This one was tall. He rode it several times.

He is at the very top of this one below.

So that is how we spent the day yesterday. Have a great day my friends.

Family pic

We never get a family pic done and finally we did yesterday. We had to go to my step-son's wedding shower and so out of the blue we decided to take a family picture. I say it's about time but then I don't like my picture taken either. lol But I thought it turned out good.

It has really been crazy around here lately. We bought some hay and have been getting it with only a 16ft trailer. That means we can only carry 6 round bales at a time. We bought 80 bales. So son and hubby got I think 32 bales home and noticed that the gas tank was leaking on the bucket truck. So now we have to drain the tank and take it off and find someone that can fix it. Should of seen us scurring around trying to find things to put all that gas in. It held something like 35 gallons and that wasn't even full. Glad the tank wasn't full at the time. lol

Then we bought a used riding lawnmower and found out that all the pieces weren't with it when we got it home. We knew that the carberator had to be put back on it but that was suppose to be all. So thankfully our motor from our old one worked to be put on it. So we get that put on and then put gas in it and run it for a bit and it works good. Well then we decided to fill the gas tank on it and that was a mistake. It ran all over the ground. The tank had a huge hole in it at half full level. So now we have to find another gas tank. So needless to say we didn't do too good on this deal. We were trying not to have to buy a new one or a used one at a new price. Oh yea, we had to buy a battery and a tube to put in one of the tires too.  I just don't understand people why they can't be honest when they are selling something. When I sell stuff, I tell them everything that is wrong with it  and if they still want it then I know I told them everything and they can't get mad about it. I usually sell it too being honest. Like one time I was selling a Jack donkey that hated other animals. I advertised it on the radio and told them that too. These people came by and looked at him and I told them all about him how he ran my cows through the fences to the neighbors and all and they bought him. Well about 6 months later I talked to them and asked them about him and they told me that they had to sell him cause he was mean to their cattle. I told them that I had told them that and they said I know you did but we didn't believe he was that bad. lol But I felt good that I was honest about it and we are friends to this day. That donkey would bite the cows ears too. He was a mean little guy. He was cute though. His name was Poncho and he was so short that your feet about touched the ground when you rode him. lol We got rid of him also (that was the last straw) when he bit son in the middle of his back when son was just 2 years old. Thankfully he didn't break the skin, but he sure made a big indention in his back. That was it! He was going after that.

Ok, well I better stop chatting now or you will be reading a book pretty soon . lol Have a great week my friends in blogland.
