Titus 2 Challenge: Are Your Children a Blessing?...
Posted in Joyful Mother
During one of my brief visits on the computer today,
I was compelled to check my good friend's blog
(which she rarely posts on... but I'm always hopeful).
To my surprise, she did happen to have a recent post!
As I read her post, it saddened and warmed my heart
all at the same time.
(Be sure to visit her and read what she has written)
For those that know me, it is usually easy to see (at least I hope)
that one of my greatest heartbeats is loving and enjoying my children.
I treasure and believe whole-heartedly when God declares,
"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD:
and the fruit of the womb is his reward"
~ Psalm 127:3 (emphasis added)
How sad and tragic it is when young and older mamas alike
truly do not view their precious children as God says they are.
All too often children are seen as being annoying,
burdensome, irritating, too much to 'handle', etc...
All too often, mamas can't wait until
their baby is six weeks old so they can go back to work,
or until school starts up so the children aren't home all day,
or until bedtime when they can have a 'peaceful' moment,
or even until their children are grown and out of the house,
and perhaps when their children have children so they can just
'give the child back to the parent' as a grandparent.
Why are these little souls not treasured?
Aside from sin and the loss of natural affection,
I believe that part of the problem lies in the older Titus 2 women.
(And we are all older Titus 2 women is some ways
and, in the least, we have the potential to be)
Isn't it interesting in Titus 2, verse 3
that the 'aged women' are commanded to
"...teach the young women to ... love their children"?
Wouldn't you think that loving our children would be 'natural'?
No, it really isn't. Loving self is our nature... our sin nature.
I join my friend in challenging you
to love your children, enjoy your children, treasure your children.
They are our blessed heritage and reward from God Himself.
I also challenge you to become a Titus 2 woman
and challenge, encourage, and pray for other mamas
to love their children, to find joy in their children, and to treasure them.
Will you, too, step up to the challenge and God's calling?

You said some things that have been on my heart for a while. I just had to post your site on my blog last night. I think every mother needs to hear and be reminded of this. Thank you for sharing it.

Hi Christina
I have pondered this verse in Titus 2 regarding women being TAUGHT to love their children. I agree with you that our nature is to love ourselves, our desires, our goals, our to-do lists. I'm afraid there aren't enough Titus 2 older women out there teaching the younger ladies. Let us be the generation to turn our hearts back to the Word and teach one another as well as the younger gals how to love our husbands, love our children, and be keepers at home! Lord help us.

This was an excellent post! You're so right, it is natural to love ourselves, not others.
You know, maybe part of the reason that more 'Titus-2' ladies don't step up is because in the past, when they have tried to, they're ignored as being 'old-fashioned'. Sometimes it seems like younger ladies don't want to be told anything. And in our society very few want to be corrected, guided, or told that there might be a better way.
Just some of my thoughts......I hope they didn't sound too harsh because I certainly didn't mean it to come across that way. (o:

I do agree with you on your thoughts, I am 44 years old and have 3 daughters 23, 21, and 19,,,,and I feel such a sense of loss for not investing more in them when they were young, and loving them as the scriptures say and being faithful to teach them, I did alot of lazy parenting, just living for myself and knowing better,I just never really dedicated my time to them as I should of, I homeschooled them but even then in a lazy do it yourself way. May God help us as older women be reminded of our mistakes and now in return teach the younger women, and yes we have things to teach, now that we look back and see the mistakes we are able to teach what mothers should do and why... I don't feel all is lost, I now invest time when my girls are in different situations and teach them from the scriptures what they should do. God Bless!
