It Must Run in the Family...
Posted in Joyful Mother
Want to know what I wanted for my 13th birthday?
I wanted a really big dictionary.
Yep! It's true.
I have long loved words.
I love the dictionary. I love the thesaurus.
As an adolescent, I spent time reading my dictionary,
marking particular words that I really liked.
I did the same with my thesaurus.
I love reading. I love words.
Why am I mentioning this?
I'm not sure really. I suppose as an intro to share the following photo.
Yesterday, when I walked into the den,
I found my son sitting on the sofa
silently and intently reading through
our Webster's 1828 Dictionary...

It reminded me of myself.
It was one of those moments that made me giggle inside
as it blessed my heart.

I did that too! I totally remember reading the dictionary. And I remember the day I learned what a thesauras was and how to use it, I sat there and read 2/3 of it!! Funny. One of my favorite moments is when I catch one of my kids intently reading (looking at the pictures before they can read) too.
That's very cool :)

I have one of those... we sure do have similar things... including 8 year old red-headed sons with "armor of God" toy, green dish towels, lovely oldest daughters, and we share a first name!
I got my unabridged dictionary for Christmas when I was in high school and I still say it was my favorite gift! And YES I actually have been known to READ it!

LOVE that 1828 dictionary! My daughters are word-fiends too, and my eldest (at the ripe old age of 6) has become frustrated with her children's dictionary already because it "only has words I already know!". She wants a adult dictionary "of her own". (Even though we have dozens of dictionaries in the house, lol.)

That is so funny. Thanks for sharing. My beloved is really smart, and believe it or not, he used to read a dictionary for fun when he was younger as well. He was one of four, and they didn't have a lot of money. He didn't have a lot of books or toys, so he would read the dictionary. He loved it. lol ;0) Will is on the right track.
