Today we began our day a bit slowly.
I worked on a bit more laundry and we picked up in the house.
Before heading out to run some errands,
Will and I read two more chapters in "Stories of the Pilgrims".
We only have a few more to go until we finish the book!
Will (and I) are excited. We love reading about the Pilgrims' adventures
but we are eager to move forward in history.
Ally read two more chapters in her "Famous Men of the Middle Ages",
which she is loving and today she asked me,
"Mom, can we just get all of these books in this series
and I can just read a bunch of living books for history?
I really love these books and have been taking lots of my own notes."
What a blessing that was for me to hear!
Oh, how it blesses my heart when my children
have an interest, excitement, passion, and love for learning!
I am so thankful when the Lord scatters this kind of encouragement
throughout my weeks, days, and minutes.
As we were getting ready to leave for our errands,
I caught Will on the couch re-reading previous chapters
from the history book we had been reading in.
He was so engrossed in the book that he didn't 'hear' me
when I told him, twice, to put his shoes on.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Mom. I didn't hear you.
I was reading how Captain Standish was shot at with arrows.
It was a good thing he was wearing his armour!"
After putting his shoes on,
he asked if he could bring the book in the van.
Of course he could! Again, my heart was deeply blessed.
And he read that book the entire trip...
being sure to 'fill me in' with many of the details of what he was reading.
When we arrived home, it was close to supper time.
Ally heated up supper while I took the children outside for a brief time.
After supper, my beloved called.
As I spoke with him, the children read some books.
My conversation with my husband was a blessing to me.
We read our Bibles together over the phone
and talked a little about how our day went.
He spoke with the children and then it was time to go
and I put the children to bed.
I know that sometimes we can take for granted
the 'little things' that our husbands do,
but it really blessed my heart to see him
talking to his children over the phone...
to see his fatherly love in action... desiring to fellowship with them...
not because of my prompting, suggestion, or anything that I said,
but because his heart is turned towards his children.
What a blessing that I pray I will never take for granted.
In the evening's quietness, I was also reminded of the conversation
I had with my beloved earlier in the day.
He was talking about the selling of our house and such
and how we are a bit pressed for time.
He was sharing with me how in another conversation
he shared that we will need to get something settled this week or so
because he really wants his wife and children to come with him
when he has to move and check into his new job.
Is it to be expected that a husband would want
his wife and children to move with him? Yes, likely so.
But it didn't take away from the fact that his words were precious to me.
He also, in our conversation, took the time to sincerely thank me
for not 'putting up a fuss' (making him feel guilty)
about spending a week with his brothers.
And thanked me for being at home... 'holding down the fort'.
What an encouragement that was for me.
What a blessing it was to hear his verbal appreciation of me
and the verbal expression of his love for me and his children, before.
I pray that I will never take words like those for granted.
The Lord showered me with these precious blessings today
and I was compelled to share.
I would love to hear of the 'little' blessings
the Lord showered on others today...
"Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness,
and for his wonderful works to the children of men!"
~ Psalm 107:31
"Because thy lovingkindness is better than life,
my lips shall praise thee."
~ Psalm 63:3
