Will the Town Criers Step Forward, Please...
Posted in Samples of Work
Today we spent quite a bit of time doing another pocket
from our History pocket.
(I am determined to get this thing finished
)
The children had a fun time putting them together...

What they enjoyed the most with this pocket
was learning what a town crier was...
(the official news announcer in early coloniel times).
So the children wrote their own news (for that time period)
and announced it to the 'town' (me and their siblings)...

Ding ding ding rang the 'announcement bell'
and enters 'Crier Will':
"Ahem!
Some of the pilgrims have died in war.
Every one will pay more taxes.
New law: Never hurt anyone.
If you break this law, you will be kicked out of town.
Good news: more supplies have come
and the indians have made peace."

Ding ding ding rang the 'announcement bell'
and entered "Crier Ally":
"Today we received tea from China!
Also, Mrs. Hopkins is doing better from the measles.
No sign of any indians for a while!
William Bradford has adopted, yet another wild cat!
And a new law has passed:
That no one is permitted to put boogers in other people's food.
Anyone who breaks this will have to eat the food he contaminated!"
It was a hoot!
They will be announcing the news again when Daddy comes home.
Here is a photo of their final pockets for today...

Also, today, we were able to accomplish
our daily Psalm reading; Bible reading (Genesis);
reviewed our 'Diligence' memory verse; copywork;
Will did math; Ally did Chemistry and Greek;
Will and I read a couple chapters of history aloud;
we read another chapter from "Teddy's Button";
cleaned, played, listened to classical music and
to Ally play hymns on the piano.
Now I'm off to start supper before hubby gets home.

Pilgrims, Proverbs, and Pagoo....
Posted in Samples of Work
Today was our bi-weekly trip to the commisary, but we did manage to accomplish some things for 'school'.
One of those things was spend some time reading aloud "Pagoo". It fits with our recent beachschooling theme. We enjoyed reading the first few pages and laughing aloud.
We also grabbed out our sketch books and sketched our first picture of Pagoo as a new baby. Below are our sketches...
Here is Will's sketch...

A wonderful accomplishment... especially from a young man that does not exactly enjoy drawing or writing (yet..).
And here is Ally's sketch...

She also included a quote from the book. I thought she did a great job. A wonderful eye for detail!
And, yes, even I joined in the fun... Here is my attempt....

We had fun sketching together.
We were also able to do our lesson in Proverbs 4 and illustrate it.
We read a few chapters of our "Stories of the Pilgrims", too.
While the younger children played outside, Ally and I walked up and down the sidewalk as we read aloud together our "So Much More" book, which we are really enjoying. As we walked and read, Beth and Caro kept bringing up wild flowers that they had been picking for me (also blades of grass and dead leaves)... sweeties....
Our trip to the commisary took up a good chunk of our day though....
Tomorrow we hope to head outdoors and explore....

Shell classifications sketch
Posted in Samples of Work
Yesterday, Ally picked out a few of the shells that we found, identified them using our Audubon guide, and sketched them.
Here are here sketches:

Her favorite is the blood ark. She liked the way it looked.
Ally would like me to add a disclaimer here:
She states that she is a bit embarrassed by me putting these on my blog because she claims that she did not do her best work, but simply sketched them hurriedly.
I think they look just fine, but added her disclaimer to please her. *Ü*
You're welcome, Ally. (I love you, dear)

Today, Ally sketched the stump of the palm tree
we saw at our ocean beach trip last Friday.
She sketched from the photo I took.
I thought she did a great job!

History Pockets begin...
Posted in Samples of Work
Today we began doing our History Pockets for
The Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony.
The children really enjoyed putting them together.
And we enjoy talking about God's providence
during this time of history.
Below are some pics of what they did today.

Will's golf story...
Posted in Samples of Work
Today in Language,
Will dictated his own story to me
& then illustrated it.
He loves golf!
Golf Day
One day Ally, Dad, my uncles, and I went golfing at Gifford's.
When I hit the first ball off the tee, it landed on the fairway,
but not even one hundred yards.
On the third hole, there was a water hazard so we skipped it
and teed off close to the green.
The winner was Uncle Steven and I was last place.
I learned how to play better
and that putting is NOT my favorite thing in golf.
My favorite thing is driving off the tee with a driver.
~ dictated by Will K.
The lines represent the path of the golf ball for each person.

"Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks,
and to look well to thy herds."
~ Proverbs 27:23
Tending to our sheep...
