Two Kid Schoolhouse

• Apr. 2, 2006 - Seder!

Last night our church held our annual Seder.  I don't know how "authentic" it is.  We are Presbyterians, after all.  But it is a much-loved tradition (even if it's not on the correct date).  We learn some Jewish traditions - sampling the bitter herb (horseradish)  which symbolizes slavery, the parsley dipped in salt water to symbolize tears. We study some Scripture, pray, feast, and have a lot of fun.  One family roasts a lamb for us. There are many vegetable dishes. Incredible rice.  And who would have thought that a luscious dessert can be made with matzoh?

Oh, and we sing!  There's a song that includes pounding on the table.  The kids can't wait for that one!

As we were leaving and saying our goodnights - after turning the "feasting hall" back into the sanctuary (our church is small) - the Pastor said "It's later than you think!"  No kidding.  We got the kids into bed right away and then started changing the clocks.

I don't think we're going to make it to Sunday School today!

How fun! Us Baptists don't get to do things like that...at least, not our church, anyway. :o)

Chag Same'ach Pesach - basically, Happy Passover! We did a Sedar once several years ago and it was very fun and informative.

Shalom!
