On The Second Day Of Christmas...

Dec. 26, 2005

Aunt Susan and the girls sent us a very pretty angel ornament, engraved with "When there is love in the home, there is joy in the heart."  E read it and J asked "who's the quoter?"  Well, it was the unknown quoter.

E is not sure it should stay a Christmas ornament.  I suppose she's thinking how pretty the pink hanging ribbon will look in her new room...

Two turtledoves represent the sacrifice Mary and Joseph brought to the temple!

On The First Day of Christmas...

Dec. 25, 2005

Today's gift was the game "Hullabaloo: The Game Of Tunes, Twists, and Topsy-Turvy Fun."  It does look like fun!  J and E opened it right after breakfast, before church. Afterwards they were inundated with gifts so we haven't played this yet.  It is high on the list to play.

Getting a picture was hard because they were working so hard on getting the package unwrapped together they looked like they were in pain.  Then when they were holding it E went into pose mode and looked goofy.  I think it'll go easier on me tomorrow.

We also started our Twelve Days tree, which was a gift from Aunt Susan to me years ago.  It's a little metal tree with a little ornament representing each day.  E decided earlier on we would put one on a day starting on Christmas Day.

We also started reading a book called The Real Twelve Days of Christmas by Helen Haidle, which tells the story behind the song.  It says: "The partridge is known as a valiant bird, willing to fight to the death in order to defend its young.  The bird's readiness to die for its young made it an ancient Christian synbol of Christ."

Incidentally, E's birthday is on January 7.  During my pregnancy I prayed that she would be born after the Christmas season was over. (My due date was Jan 9, her grandfather's birthday.)  Well, my prayer was answered and she was born the day after Twelfth Night!   So we have a long season of celebrating!

Aunt Susan And The Twelve Days of Christmas

Dec. 25, 2005

My sister always liked to do things a little bit differently than anyone else.  This year she and her daughters outdid themselves.  They sent J and E 13 packages, one to open each day, beginning tonight, and ending on the 12th day of Christmas.

Today's package contained some Christmas tree peeps, a disposable camera, and a letter explaining the plan.  The kids get to open a package each day and get a photo of them opening it.  At the end of the twelve days, we will send the camera back to Aunt Susan and she will get to see their faces as they open the gifts!

Another tricky thing is that the gift could be for anyone in our family.  Or, for everyone. So every day will be a real surprise.

Stay tuned to read about each gift.
