Sep. 21, 2007 - K.B.'s Daily St. Louis Cardinals report

What does the Cardinals and my potatoes I had for supper have in common? They both got mashed last night. The Cardinals got totally obliterated by the last place Houston Astros with a final score of 1-18. That put the Cardinals 9 games out.

Braden Looper had a very rough 5 innings in which he allowed 9 runs on 5 hits. Andy Cavozos and Kelvin Jimenez each  allowed 4 runs and  Brian Falenborg allowed 3 runs. But the next pitcher  out pitched them. That pitcher was, Aaron Miles! Seriously, he did better because he only allowed 2 runs! Looper get his 11th loss of the year.

The Cardinals had a total of 8 hits. David Eckstien had a couple hits. Miguel Cairo also had 2 hits but had the only Cardinals run scored as well. Skip Schumaker went 1 for 1 in his pinch-hit in which he had an RBI.

Today the Cardinals will continue the series against the Houston Astros at 7:10 CT. Joel Piniero (5-3 4.50 ERA) will start for the Cards and Brandon Backe (1-1 4.86 ERA) for the 'stros.
