    And The Results Are In!!!

Since we decided last year to homeschool and found out what all the requirements were, I had been worrying about whether or not I would be a good enough teacher for my son, Kiddo.  Having to show progress and having him pass a test, never really bothered me until then.  I would sit and beat myself up about it.  How do we know what curriculum to chose?  Which approach to take?  Will it be the right one?   When it came time for testing, would he would pass it with flying colors?  Would he fail and we would be put on probation for a year?  Or would he fail and have to go back to public school not allowing us to continue on our homeschooling journey?  EEEEEKKK!!  How many nights I would sit and cry worrying about all this.

I had worked in the public school system for 11 years in Special Education, but now that the remainder of our son's education was in my hands, I began to feel completely underqualified and scared-to-death!  We knew that my quitting my job and going back to a one-income family, was a risky thing to do and there was a good great possibility that we would lose everything.  Skippy has even been working three jobs to make our desire to homeschool possible.  GOD BLESS, MY HUSBAND!!   But then we realized, that by not doing it, we were not completely putting our trust and faith in God.  That hit my heart very hard.  What kind of Christian I am to not believe that God will provide for us?

Don't we, as Christians, believe that through Him, all things ARE possible?  Well, we DO believe that, and together, Skippy and I took a giant leap off the proverbial "cliff", and guess what?  Our first year has passed and we are still here and moving on.  Kiddo finished his testing and we got the results back.  He scored above average in all areas but one, and that was in the average range.  PTL!  GOD IS GREAT and is providing for us, and our "needs" are being met!  Praise The Lord!

I will be sending in our "proof of progress" letter this week to the school board.  I have already purchased some of our curriculum for next year inexpensively off of eBay.  I am really excited about starting full force again in the fall as I have so many things I want to do.  Now that I know more about the whole process and have gone through our first year of basically not knowing which end is up, I am feeling much better about things and my ability to teach my own son!

We will be using the following curriculum:

Math:  LIFEPAC Gold from Alpha Omega
Bible:  King's of Isreal by A Beka
Science:  Science of the Physical Creation by A Beka
History and Geography:  LIFEPAC by Alpha Omega
    Spelling:  On-line web site
The rest of our curriculum is undecided

May God continue to bless us all with our homeschooling journeys!

    Blessings~
    Laura

How do you like the Lifepacs? I use them for math and my kids really like them. I know what you mean about the provision. I have been working a part-time job and running a home-based business and a few weeks back I told my husband I couldn't do it all anymore. I need to be home fully so I will be and he may need a second job to get by. Thanks for sharing your story.

    Jun. 22, 2008 - Hey Laura

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment for me and for your prayers. Kelsey is getting better but she's still somewhat confused feeling. She thought our 9 yr old boy dog was having puppies this morning and told him not to leave the chair or he couldn't have puppies. Then my husband found her outside in the car with the keys, she thought our other dog had gone to where she went to camp and was going to get him...she doesn't even know how to drive, so that's made us pretty fearful! I've prayed and asked for her mind to be clear and for her to be healthy again, but I don't know if that's the right thing to pray for. On the other hand, I wonder if this is Satan's way of preventing her from sharing God's word and telling of her experience with the deaf boy at camp. I'm really scared and keep telling myself that I just need to wait and see what happens. I wish all this would just end and she would be back to her old self. Any advice from you or anyone reading this would be greatly appreciated!

First, I have to comment on your new do!! Looks great!!
Second, loved your article. Some of it sounds similar to myself 9all the turmoil and "beating up" my self over things). It is something I think about often. So glad you are in it for another year. With the price of everything going up, it really makes me wonder......
As far as being able to paint siding - I presume you have vinyl siding - Yes, you can paint it. I only know this because where we bought our paint, they mentioned it when we where discussing be able to paint different things. It's a special kind of paint I am thinking.
I also got all my supplies bought to start making my own detergent. Maybe by the end of July I will have it made. I am really excited about it.
Am really glad everything turned out GREAT on the testing and all and you are doing so well!!
