Home Is Where My Heart Is

I'm on a diet....

Grrrr...I hate diets, I really do.  But I've let myself go in the past couple of years and it is time to make some changes.  My recent dr. appointment brought to my attention that I have high blood pressure, high triglycerides, high chlosterol, high sugar, etc. etc.  It's not just about how I look in a certain outfit or being a size 8 now, it's about my HEALTH.  All the above mentioned things run in my family.  I want to do all that I can on my own before having to take medicine for these things for the rest of my life.  I understand that in some situations medicine is a necessity.  But, I've also read up on all this stuff and in ALL of them, weight is a major contributor.

I have decided to try the Nutri-System diet.  I need something that already has portions measured out.  I have been on it for 4 days and so far it has been pretty good.  You add your dairy, vegetables, fruit to their pre-made meals.  This is what I've discovered so far about me and food......It's an addiction!!! I've been mourning for certain things, mostly sweets.  I have to let it go and it's hard.  I have to do this for me, my health  and my family.

So, I've made changes in my families diet by purchasing low sugar low, fat items, more fruit for snacking, etc.

What does this have to do with homeschooling you may ask??  If I'm the healthiest mom I can be, there's NO DOUBT that will contribute to a better homeschooling life!!!

Pray for me and I would love to hear from anyone that might have been on or currently is doing the NutriSystem plan or anyone that just wants to say Hi!!

I'm saying a prayer for you. My mom has high triglycerides. She has changed her diet some, but mostly walking, walking, walking. Of course, all that walking made her lose a good bit of weight, too. I am with you on the food addictions. I'm trying to be more careful with them.....except for Hershey kisses.
I right there with you on how hard it is to send the kids off. Briana was gone to camp for 2 weeks, but at least I got to talk to her every night. Ashley is gone for her 2nd week of camp counseling. She came home Fri. evening through Sun. afternoon, and she's only out in W.Valley, but I can't communicate with her at all. That's really hard even at her age.
Hope the visit and camp go well for her and quickly for you!

I will pray for you, I know that changing your eating can be a huge undertaking. Just take it day by day and eventually you'll be there!

Aug. 20, 2006 - Getting healthy

Posted by Danielle

I wanted to encourage you in your new life. I was in great shape and healthy until I got married. Starting eating man sized portions, became more lethargic and took birth control pills (hindsight is 20/20). I'm pregnant now but I know the most healthy thing for me to do is exercise. Even if it is just walking for an hour a day, it really helps your heart and your blood pressure and your cholesterol. My father died of a heartattack and had high bloodpressure and awful cholesterol. My mom has high cholesterol, bloodpressure and late onset diabetes. So starting now, even though I'm pregnant, I am getting my body moving. I know that is the thing that kept me in shape before marriage. My eating habits aren't terrible. I need to watch those portion sizes but it's my activity level that will be the best determiner of whether I am healthy or not.

With homeschooling, you could walk as a family and maybe start jogging together eventually. I know some parks actually have those fitness courses you can walk through and do some tummy crunches and leg lifts and stuff like that. Totally free.

Anyway, I just wanted to encourage you in your new life and try to pace an emphasis on activity rather than food. If you look at other countries where people are in shape and healthier, you will realize that they eat lots of breads and cheeses and meats and all the things we think make us fat. Those people aren't fat but they are eating all these things. Those other countries don't make money on lowfat anything...here we are in America and we are all fat and we are all trying to eat lowfat. I think what I'm trying to say is that lowfat foods actually make us fat. You don't ever see thin and healthy people eating lowfat or diet....you see them active.
